Angel and Sonya get their chance to help save the world and take down the bad guy in this final installment. All the Knights are around to help clean up the mess that Spider left in his wake. Sad to know this series is over, but is it?

If you have read any of the other books in this series, then like me, you have been waiting to hear more about Angel. And if you haven’t read any of the other books in the series, you won’t feel behind!

Angel, with his mysterious voice, has been a character I have longed to know more about since he appeared in the series! In this book, you learn about his background and what lead to his extensive plastic surgery along with his background as an operator. This book picks up where the last left off (don’t worry if you’ve missed one, Ms. Walker fills in the blanks) with BKI’s search for the sadistic criminal kingpin “Spider.” Enter Sonya, someone Angel knew and was in love with before he “became” Angel.

Angel is working undercover as a criminal who can get certain criminal materials for Spider. When he gets to meet with Spider he runs into Sonya. Sonya is “working” with Spider … but not willingly. As the story unveils, you are glued to your seat wondering if she is going to figure out who he is and if they are going to make it. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and couldn’t put it down!

I must say I am sorry to see the end of this series, and I foresee myself re-reading the rest of the books, although I love the way Ms. Walker ended this story (no spoilers here though!). You do find out what will happen with the team members as this chapter of BKI closes its doors.

Tension-filled romantic suspense…

I always find it hard to read the last book of a series I really liked. Walking away from characters that have become so familiar over the span of many reads is hard when you’ve fretted, fallen in love, and walked with them through all the ups and downs. If I have to say goodbye though, Angel and Sonya’s story was the perfect sendoff…

Sonya and Angel found themselves in the employ, whether reluctantly or not, of the same crime boss and neither knew what to make of the other. Angel saw Sonya as a painful blast from his past, a woman he had adored, now working for a cruel criminal… Sonya saw a man who reminded her so much of the man she’d loved and lost, she was sure she was going crazy…

The adrenaline was high as nuclear war were the stakes but also in jeopardy were their hearts. Confusion reigned for both of them as they navigated deadly waters not quite sure where they stood with each other. With BKI at their backs, however, they had hope…
Bittersweet, it was the culmination of all that came before it and it was a read that I couldn’t walk away from until the very end. Catching up on all the BKI team made for a nostalgic, and perfect ending…

This is the final book in the Black Knights, Inc. series. I was a bit disappointed in this book. I really like Angel from the previous book so I went into this really wanting to love his story. I kept getting pulled out of it though with the constant changing of PoVs and the story jumping around in the timeline. I really struggled with this and just could not connect with Angel's story.

(Black Knights Inc. – Book 12)

Do not try to read this book as a stand alone. Much of the storyline will not make sense. This is the conclution to the series.

Angel has been a tragic background character through much of the series and here we find out why. We get flashbacks to his former life and he gets a second chance with the girl he thought was lost to him forever.

The series is full of mystery, intrigue and Alpha-males. The women are strong but know just how to show their men how much they need them.

Julie Ann Walker is one of my go to authors and I can't wait to see what adventures she takes us on next.

So we have known for a little while now that this finale was coming our way, but even still I found myself pushing off reading Angel’s story just to convince myself I could put off the end a little while longer. I have loved the Black Knights since the very beginning and I just grew to love them more and more as I got to know them, even as I knew that sooner or later the series might end. Ms. Walker is an engaging author that keeps her readers on the edge of their seats wondering what mess her characters are going to find themselves in next just as much as we wonder if the couple will find their way into each other’s arm in the end. We have watched each of the Knights fall in love, sometimes in the most unlikely of places and with the most unlikely of people, and finally getting to know more about Angel and seeing him fall as well made the wait worth every second. Without giving too much away I will tell you that the twists and turns of Angel’s life could have made a lesser man fall apart at the seams, but for this man seemed to have only made him stronger, with only one exception—his greatest regret is losing the love of his life. But now she's suspected of being a traitor and Angel is the only man that can find out the truth and help bring down the worst scum the Knights have faced through all their travails. Sonya’s latest mission has her working side-by-side with the scum of the earth and having to hide her true nature to keep her cover, but the moment she meets Angel she feels a pull she hasn’t felt since she the only man she ever loved was murdered. Now she has to decide if she can trust the man and his actions, but when they find themselves on the run, trusting in one another might be their only path to safety and redemption. Their passion leads them into one another’s arms and soon they are in much deeper than Sonya ever thought she could be again, but Angel refuses to lose Sonya a second time. But when the truth comes to light can she forgive his past choices? Sonya is the kind of woman I would love to be, but I am honest in saying I am way too big of a wuss to ever do half the crap she does in order to bring the Spider to justice. Her innate goodness shines through even when she tries to hide it, her determination is incomparable and her passion for life, even after losing the love of her life, shows that sometimes all you need to keep you going is a goal. I loved seeing her arguing with Angel and it was obvious that, even though he tried to hide it, she brought out every protective instinct in his body. Angel has undergone so many identify changes that sometimes he forgets who he truly is, but once he sets eyes on Sonya again he lapses right back into the man he used to be and perhaps that is for the best. He is a strong, sweet, sexy, and giving man, with a heart of gold and the skills to keep his woman safe from anything that might ever threaten her. I loved seeing Angel rediscover the man he was born to be and that Sonya first fell in love with, even as he maintained some of the traits that made him into such a badass BKI operative. Sonya and Angel were truly the perfect match and their love will last their entire lives as they are soul mates to be sure. Although I am sad to see the series has come to an end, I continue to hope we might someday see these characters again in a continuation or spinoff series, but nevertheless thank you for a wild ride Ms. Walker. This series truly was Built to Last.

If you are into romance, “Built to Last” is for you. If you are into thrillers, this book is for you. And finally, if you are into romantic thriller, then this book and the whole Black Knight Inc. series by Julie Ann Walker is for you.

You’re probably wondering I had to write that whole paragraph and not just be short and concise, going straight to romantic thriller. I did that first, but then it did not feel right. “Built to Last” is a romance, it’s a thriller and a romantic thriller. It fits all three genres and if I miss one, I will be doing it a disservice.

First, there is the mysterious Jamin Agassi, better known as “Angel” and there is former Interpol Agent Sonya Butler. Their relationship is very unusual and their chemistry… whew!!! Just the way that they look at each other will get you hot and bothered!

As the readers get to know more about Angel and Sonya and traverse their story, characters from the earlier books make cameo appearances. This is the final book in the series, so it is sort of a farewell as Julie Ann Walker reveal what has happened to them off screen.

But, don’t worry, you don’t need to have read their books to understand what is going on. The author gives enough background material so that you won’t be lost. “Built to Last” is a standalone novel. Still, you will find the other characters intriguing, so I won’t be surprised if you pick up the earlier books after reading this.

“Built to Last” is Rated M for Mature due to violence and sexual content.

Julie Ann Walker's Built to Last is a fantastic end to her Black Knights, Inc. series! It was thrilling, witty and kept me on the edge of my seat!

Wow, Walker never fails to disappoint. I was really looking forward to this book, because I wanted to find out more about his mysterious character, and while I found his beginning a little far-fetched, it was still mysterious and fun, and that's what these books are all about. I really enjoyed this one and I'm sad the series is over.

Built to Last is the final book in Julie Ann Walker’s Black Knights Inc. Series. I have read several of these books but not all of them. Consequently, they can be read as standalones. She always gives enough backstory throughout the book so you don’t feel like you missed that much. Built to Last focuses on the most mysterious and lethal member of Black Knights Inc. His name is Jamin “Angel” Agassi or at least that’s one of his names. Throughout the underworld, Angel is known as the Prince of Shadows and he is someone that everyone respects and fears.

As with all of the other books, the main focus is about a romance between a BKI member and another unlikely love interest. This time, the sparks fly between Angel and Sonya Butler who is a former Interpol agent. Without giving too much away, let’s just say there is a possibility that these two have a connection that is much deeper than should be possible. More importantly, their physical connection will definitely burn through the pages. In addition, there is a good amount of action and espionage that is the cornerstone of each book as well. Needless to say, there is never a dull moment as you watch Angel and Sonya try to figure each other out while trying to stay one step ahead of a common enemy named Lord Grafton who has them both under his thumb.

I really enjoyed Built to Last. There is a large cast of characters as other members of BKI make multiple appearances. There is plenty of action and adventure and the main plotline will keep you on the edge of your seat as you wonder when the biggest secret of all is finally revealed. This is a fitting end to the series and the best book of all of the ones I have read. Sadly, the big secret makes it very difficult for me to really discuss the book without spoiling it. Built to Last is a perfectly balanced book and I hope Julie Ann creates a similar series in the future.

I liked this one, I have read some books from this series and I like the writing and the characters were fantastic! This is an action-packed, suspenseful, undercover story built around two love stories, all in all this story has a lot of great things and things are happening to keep your interest till the end. This isn't an easy one. It's bittersweet and painful, also it's raw and it's full of emotions!

This was a pretty good book. I would recommend it. It wasn't anything too crazy just your typical romance novel, but I would definitely put it on your list if you are into romance. It was well written and the story line was a good one.

I was so looking forward to Angel’s story and am glad that it explained his past while forming his future. To do this, the book kept flashing back to his previous life, illustrating the impact on his and Sonya’s relationship. I’m not a big fan of the back and forth, so thankfully the story itself kept me enthralled. Sonya was someone I liked and could relate to. Her personality made the romance in an unheard of situation believable. Lots of action + smoking hot romance + close-knit friends = a good BKI story! Of course, all the people I’ve grown to love in the Black Knights world were involved in the usual mayhem, making me smile even when the tensions were high. I’m saddened to think this is the end of BKI, but excited for the hint of things to come.

Stevie‘s review of Built to Last (Black Knights Inc, Book 12) by Julie Ann Walker
Contemporary Romantic Suspense published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 26 Jun 18

The ending of Black Knights Inc. – both the top-secret organisation and the series documenting their adventures – has been inevitable for a while. Answering directly to the President of the United State – the individual, rather than the office-holder – a change in their country’s leadership has meant the winding down of the organisation once they’ve completed their final mission. While I’ve been a little disappointed with recent instalments, I still wanted to follow the series through to its conclusion, not least because I wanted to know how Ace and Rusty were going to resolve their seemingly insurmountable differences. Sadly, this wasn’t their book, although we did get to see their resolution; instead, we mostly follow the rekindled relationship between Angel, a long-standing though often absent member of the team, and Sonya, the former Interpol agent who has long believed that her lover (whom she knew as Mossad agent Mark Risa) died in a mission-gone-wrong. The pair are reunited, when they are both working undercover to bring down the series recurring villain, but it takes a while for them to reveal their identities to each other, even after the sparks of their relationship have been rekindled.

Angel recognises Sonya immediately, of course, although he is initially taken in by her cover-story of having left Interpol and to be working for Lord Grafton – the man behind many of the plots foiled by the Black Knights in recent years – because he is blackmailing her. Sonya, on the other hand, has no reason to believe that the new member of Grafton’s team is anything to do with her former love – Angel has had extensive surgery to alter not just his appearance but also his voice. Her attraction to Angel is heavily tied up with her memories of Mark, however, leading to doubled feelings of guilt over betraying Mark’s memory with a man he would certainly have considered to be his enemy.

As Grafton’s plans for his ultimate act of terror are slowly revealed, the pair realise that they are working on the same side, unite to stop him, and to ensure that the threat he and his group pose is neutralised for good. While Angel is happy to reveal his current identity to Sonya, it takes him a long time to let her know what really happened all those years before, and that part of the plot did feel overly drawn out. Likewise, while I was glad to see more of Rusty and Ace, I was a little disappointed that their story was relegated to being a secondary plot to Angel and Sonya’s story, rather than them getting a novel, or at the very least a novella, of their own.

This book was well on course, in fact, to getting a C Grade, right up to the final few pages. Which, of course, I’m not going to detail here. Overall, a solid ending to the series in terms of action, if not in terms of the romance plots.

Grade: B

NONONONONONONONONONO!!!!! I'm not ready for it to be over.

I know some people get fed up. NOT ME!!! I want more, so much more. I can't even remember the very first time I picked up the first Black Nights Inc story it was so long ago. Yet it seems so hard to believe that this is it for them. Yes I know there is a sort of spin off but quite frankly I feel like I'm mourning the loss of them already. I'm just not ready for this.

Angels story has held a giant question mark for so long. Who is this man? What used to be of his past life? What makes him tick?. So many freaking questions surrounding this tall dark and deadly beautiful specimen straight from the pits of hell because surly it's a sin to be that fucking delicious right?.

Hells balls this book is straight up a miracle / gigantoz mind fuck. Angel and Sonya's story is a second chance romance with a giant twist. What's the twist you ask? Well.. I'm not telling but it definitely makes this second chance romance a unique one.

This isn't an easy one. It's bittersweet and painful. My heart broke for the love Sonya could never forget and the sacrifices Angel made to protect others. The chemistry, the connection everything was on point. Raw, believable the emotion pours out of this story.

The side characters add so much goodness to the story. I love them all. They are one big dysfunctional family getting up to all kinds of hilariously outrageous shenanigans. The banter had me laughing so much. The depth of emotion that pours out between them all is palpable. It crazy but they all make the story. And WTF Rusty and Ace!!!! why don't they have their own book!. I'm devastated because I want more of them.

Crazy. Suspenseful, action packed, dramatic, secretive, heartbreaking, witty and sensual all at once. It's a rollercoaster of emotions quite literally and what a ride it is. The chemistry, the emotion and what is essentially the finale wasn't just outstanding but also very bittersweet. Tied up in a tight little bow this author has managed to spin us wonderful tales of crazy outrageous adventures with some of the best characters ever in a well thought out and masterfully executed series that has brought me as a reader so much!!. It seamlessly fits in and finished everything off perfectly answering all the unanswered questions but of course leaving us with a little breadcrumb trail of what's in the future.

This in my opinion is not a standalone. Every story is interlinking so to get maximum affect you have to read them all. It's not a hardship trust me on that. Angel was the perfect ending to it all and whilst the greedy book monster in me wants more his story didn't disappoint. She did it again!!! Made me laugh cry and have my heart bursting with so much happy. I can't wait to see what becomes of The Deep Six

Julie Ann Walker is fantastic at building tension between two characters and keeping the plot interesting without allowing it to overshadow the romance.

Built to Last is the twelfth, and final, book in the Black Knights, Inc series by Julie Ann Walker. While the romance between Sonya and Angel is new to this book, the background of how our characters got to this point is well established in the previous books. I think to fully enjoy and understand what is at stake, and the depth of some of the characters, it is important to read this series in order rather than jumping this far along.

What appears to be a tricked-out motorcycle shop on the North Side of Chicago is actually headquarters for the world's most elite covert operatives. Deadly, dangerous, and determined, they'll steal your breath and your heart. After a mission-gone-sideways forces Jamin "Angel" Agassi to change his identity, he's determined to bring down the world's worst crime syndicate kingpin once and for all. That's going to be the easy part. Keeping Interpol agent Sonya Butler from discovering who he really is—and blazing another trail into his heart—is the challenge.

Built to Last is the final book in a long series, but Angel is a character we do not have much emotional knowledge of because of what he has had to do over the years. I was glad to finally get his story. Sonya is a strong, smart woman that stands up to Angel at every turn, and I enjoyed their banter and the depth of their story. It was interesting to discover the history, and the chemistry between the two. However, as much as I liked Sonya and they talk about the connection between the couple I just never really felt like it developed from anything. Both in the past and present I felt like it was a very quick jump from 'we should not' to love. I am not denying that it happens, but with the two layers of love story here I really never felt the developing relationship- it just was. The story was huge, but the relationship building seemed to be lost in the details needed to bring the pair together, and to wrap up all the loose ends of the series. I did love seeing Ace and Rusty continuing their story, and some of my favorite characters from the past reappear by the end of the book. I will admit that I did not remember every couple, and think I might have missed a few somewhere along the way. I did enjoy the story, and seeing everything come together. However, I did not connect with this story as much as I had hoped.

Built to Last offers series fans a solid conclusion, and a knowledge that their favorite characters have the happy ending they have fought hard for.

This book was Bittersweet to me!!While this book was a Great book, I am sad to say good bye to my men of Black Knight Inc! I have read every book in this series and is sad to know no more we be out! Thank you Julie Ann Walker for a Great Ride!!

Jamin “Angel” Aggasi, aka Majid Abass, originally Mark Risa, works for Black Knights, Inc., a covert, government agency. He has given up his identity, and the love of his life, to protect many countries. He’s had plastic surgery to completely change his face. He chooses to be more on the periphery of the group. It’s now 10 years later, and the group’s final assignment involves the love of his life.

Sonya Butler works for Interpol. Her current assignment is working for Lord Grafton, aka Spider, king of the underworld. She believes Mark to be dead. She’s had a few short lived relationships over the years, but no one has measured up.

I wanted to smack Angel upside the head so many times. While very good at his job, his actions toward Sonya did not coincide with my ideas of a man reunited with the love of his life. She was the love of his life, and he supposedly never got over her, but he had a woman in every port? So much deceit that he would have continue with for the rest of his life if he had not been outed. Just wrong on so many levels. Sonya’s a much better person than I am, for forgiving him his transgressions.

This book also concluded Ace and Rusty’s story. I felt for both men, understood each one’s angst, but it got a little repetitive. And their romance definitely got shorted.

Overall, I was disappointed in the wrap up. I couldn’t connect to Angel and Sonya and I wanted more for Rusty and Ace’s story. I did like watching the whole team come together to finally take Spider down.

Absolutely devoured and enjoyed every word of this last installment of the BKI series. (Or is it?)

Angel, the most secretive of all of the BKI operatives finally has his story shared. And let me tell you, it's a doozy!!! A fantastic tale of second (and third) chances with several "happy ever afters". You can palpably feel the loneliness and isolation that Angel felt while being deep undercover and also his fear of remaining that way forever as he was willing to do whatever it took for the woman he loves to remain safe

So happy to also have a satisfying conclusion to the story of Ace and Rusty. Love knows no boundaries.

Sad to see this series come to an end but the door has been left cracked open just a smidgen for, as Ozzie would say, "BKI: the next generation". Julie Ann Walker, please make it so! And many, many thanks for such a wonderful series.
