Humor, mystery, what's not to like?

Love the concept. Half brothers inherit a pub and cigar bar (sounds like the opening line of a joke, yes?). Father Dominick, a Catholic priest and Joey, now a PI after having been forced to retire from the NYPD. Using their bar as an office they take on an investigation of a suicide Father Dom finds suspicious. Throw into the mix Joey's sort of girlfriend FBI Special Agent Marcy and Joey's ex-partner Lucy. Great characters and an interesting mystery with sly humor (loved that Lucy named her boys Frank, Dean and Sammy).

Really enjoyed this book. Looking forward to more Joey Mancuso mysteries. Owen Parr will be high on my list of favorite authors.

Two more unlikely private investigators - siblings or rather half brothers - one a retired detective who was pushed out of the force for political reasons despite an excellent track record and the other a Catholic priest.

Part of a series but the first book I've read it held my interest throughout with its mix of detective work, tongue in cheek humour, a very nice Irish bar as a setting and incompetent police detectives also in play.
A suicide who happened to drink the previous night at the bar and who was in high spirits convinces Father Dom that there is more than meets the eye in this case. Why is everyone trying to hurry the case through. Ruled a suicide and cremated a day later are all clues gone? Not quite so fast because inquiries reveal a real can of worms. From money laundering to drug deals, from scams of every kind and then murder and attempted murder to cover up the traces our two uncovers a long list of culprits being brought to book.

Very nicely told, very light and very plausible.

I almost stopped reading after the first chapter because the dialogue seemed misogynistic and crude but I have it a chance and am glad I did. The plot is intricate and interesting --the conclusion well done

A Mancuso mystery that has a lot of twists and turns with multiple suspects for 2 murder victims. Mancuso is a retired NYPD detective with an FBI girlfriend, and a brother who is a priest. They team up to solve crimes and in this story they have multiple crimes to solve. It is not a thriller but a bit more than a cozy. I love the characters and look forward to the next book.

I'm sure this turned out to be a very interesting book. I'm sorry, it just didn't keep me interested. Maybe a priest in this genre was too strange for me.

Father Dominic O'Brien and his half-brother Joey Mancuso own a pub in Wall Street. They're also private investigators who are drawn into an investigation of the suicide of a Wall Street money manager. They're assisted by Joey's girlfriend, Marcy who is an FBI agent.
While reading this novel, I kept thinking this would be a wonderful TV series. The pub setting could bring all sorts of mysteries their way, and the characters are very unique individuals. The plot of this novel, while predictable at times, kept adding new bits of information that made solving the mystery a bit more complicated than one would imagine. Loved this book, and look forward to reading the next installment!

An exceptional trio – an ex-detective, his girlfriend, and his brother, a priest – attempt to solve a murder case. This case has been deemed a suicide. Our trio includes Joey Mancuso, recently fired from the NYPD after 16 years, and his brother, Dominic, a priest. They are both private investigators. There is also Marcy Martinez, FBI agent and Joey's girlfriend.

The man who died was just celebrating a promotion at the Pub the brothers own, and he was about to become engaged. Why would he kill himself? Then there is the hit-and-run of the man's assistant. Coincidence? Joey. Dominic and Marcy do not think so, and begin an intense investigation. Meanwhile, the case that led to Joey’s dismissal is something that he cannot let go of, and he is on that as well.

What a quick and fun read! I really love how Owen Parr presents the conclusion. I love this style of writing and look forward to reading more of his books.

Thank you to NetGalley for this book for review.

I received a copy of A Murder on Wall Street from NetGalley. I liked the premise and thought the main characters would be entertaining (though at times it seemed like the start to a bad joke:. "...a priest and a cop walk into a bar..."). The dialogue really dragged the book down for me. I nearly gave up after a sequence where one character quipped, the second added, a third said, and then it was right back to quipped and added. Unfortunately, I can't even recommend this as a fluff read.
