A NA book that takes gorey details and makes sure you can picture it in your mind. This was not at all what I was expecting when I first saw the cover and began the book. Right away you are thrown into vivid details about murder and blood. It continues through the whole book.
The story is well thought out and has many dimensions that continue to influence it. While I do not understand how this could be considered a YA.
I think those who enjoy more gore, detail, and a story that is focused on darker aspects of vampirism will enjoy this story.

This book did not turn out quite how I expected. It's a lot grittier and bloodier than I expected. Unfortunately I was not able to finish it. I dipped into the book at various points but it was definitely my cup of tea. Sorry!

I just wanted to say thank you for being the first to give me the opportunity to review your book.

I've been trying to come up with a world that describes 'Snow' and honestly, just Wow. Straight away I was blown away by the detailed graphic transition in our protagonist, Neva, becoming a vampire in the first chapter. It was intense. For a completely fictional experience, it felt like Mikayla was reliving the torment to bring the thoroughness in the narrative. It's been a while since a book has managed to grip me so quickly the way that this one did. I read it in one sitting which kept me up until 3am. It was worth it.

Neva, or rather Lady Neva has she is now known, is pulled into the world of vampires within the first gripping chapter. You discover that she was a widow who had lost her unborn child many years ago, who was living with her family in their bakery. A world she wasn't ready to leave behind, she had no choice but to continue on her new path.
After being attacked by Rose, an uncontrollable jealous vampire, Thedryk, a 1200 year old vampire who was commanded to look out for Neva, made the decision to change her into a vampire in order to save her, as well as other things. It turns out that Neva has been a part of this world before, as well as many other lives she has lived since then. Returning back to the world of vampires, she is the key to ending the war with demons.
It's a lot to take in but she doesn't fight it. Her unique abilities allow her to see into the past, to witness the lives of others as well as her past life self. It's enough to convince her that for now she needs to follow Thedryk to the 'House', home to the council of vampires and their queen Lady Eliza.

The book overall was fantastic, I loved the detail in the scenery both inside and out, the characters were great, I even found Zachariah fascinating, especially the way he acted around his adopted daughter. I can't wait until the next one to find out what happens next!

When I started reading this book, I thought that it was going to be a vampire Snow White type of book. I don't know why I thought that, but I did. If I paid more attention to the blurb, I would have seen that.  Oh well.

I don't understand how Snow was labeled as a young adult novel. Neva, the main character, was married. If I were to guess at her age, I would put her in her early to mid 20's. I thought that his book was better suited for the NA genre than YA. But that's me. Someone else could have a different take on it. Which is the wonderful thing about writing reviews. No one's opinions are wrong. Unless you didn't read the book and give your opinion, then I don't pay attention to the review.

I liked the plot of Snow. I thought that it was original. Neva is brought into the vampire world when her life was almost taken in an attack. She is thrust into the middle of a conspiracy that will leave everyone reeling. Can Neva bring Zachariah to his knees and save the vampire lineage? Or will she become a pawn in an ancient war?

I liked Neva but I found her whiny for most of the book. Yes, she had a terrible shock when she was turned. It would have been a huge shock for anyone. Even after Thedryk explained why she was turned and who she was, she still whined about it. She didn't understand the danger she was in. For an adult, she didn't act like one. I did like that she wised up during the last half of the book. Seeing what happened to her family shocked her into wising up.

I didn't think that Zachariah wasn't that bad of a guy for most of the book. Yes, he didn't like Neva and yes, he was only with Eliza because he cared about the power. The author showed a 100% different side to him when he was interacting with his adopted daughter. He cared for them. I honestly don't think that he is going to be as bad as he was made out to be. I do think it is awful what he did in the last half of the book. But it didn't go with what the author showed. I wonder if there is more to his story and if it will be revealed in book 2.

I loved what the author did with the vampires in this book. While these vampires need human blood, they don't need it that often. They can eat regular food but it doesn't do anything for them. Not everyone can be turned into a vampire, though. The author explained that the people can be turned into vampires have a special aura. The vampires can see it but can only turn if they have permission from the Council. If someone is turned who doesn't have the special aura, they become something out of a nightmare. The author also had the vampires have a special gift. Some are stronger than others but everyone has it.

There is even a science fiction angle of Snow. There is a vampire that can open portals into different dimensions. It is explained more thoroughly in the book. I found it fascinating and wished that it has been added sooner in the book.

The end of Snow was action packed and moved very fast. What happened to Zachariah, he deserved it. But it was the end of the book that made me go what. First with the introduction of a famous fictional character. Then it was who was introduced in the very last pages of the book. It is that revelation that makes me excited to read the next book in the series.

What I liked about Snow:

A) How the vampires were portrayed

B) Neva's storyline

C) The science fiction angle

What I disliked about Snow:

A) Neva. She was a whine bag for most of the book

B) Zachariah. I was on the fence with him for most of the book. But the ending events turned me

C) What happened to Neva's family

I would give Snow an Older Teen rating. There is no sex or sexual situations. There is violence. There is no language.

I would reread Snow. I would also recommend this book to family and friends.

I would like to thank Independent Book Publisher's Association, Member's Titles, and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review Snow.

All opinions stated in this review of Snow are mine.

3.5

Of course, the cover drew me in on this one, but also the fact that it is categorized as Teens/YA, which it doesn't fit very well into. After reading, I would put it in New Adult/Adult Paranormal Fiction. It doesn't read like a teen book--the prose, while gorgeously elegant, is very dense and hard to power through. There are many moments where I am taken out and am not quite sure what is going on or why it matters. The other aspect that makes this more adult is the fact that the main character is already married and there are no problems that teens struggle with as a specific age group highlighted in this novel.

On the other hand, while this book was extremely hard to get into, it heftily picks up just over halfway through, and the end is rather action-packed. The end also add intrigue to the plot of the antagonist and does inspire some hope that the second novel will have more action and less dense internal monologue. In my experience, the second book in a trilogy is the best one, and the second book for this series has higher ratings (although probably because the people who really liked this one continued to read), but I will give the second book a shot because I feel like, now that things are set up, the action and plot will be more exciting from the get-go of book two.

Incredibly descriptive, but not so lengthy as to bore the reader. truly and exquisite work or literary genius.

This was an enjoyable enough vampire romp. The first in a series, it is fairly predictable but offers enough of interest to keep you engaged and interested in reading a follow-up.
Neva is turned into a vampire on a night where she has been sent by patriarchal and class situation to go entertain the lord of her village. After promptly dispatching him, she is taken by the man who turned her into a world of vampires. Yet another explanation is offered for vampires in Elliot's world-building, and this one is interesting enough. More intriguing is the reincarnation aspect in which Neva is revealed to be a key player.
The actual action of the book some time to get started. In general, the writing is good, but there is a tendency toward unnecessary and over-elaborate descriptions. The cover is very lovely and reflective of the kind of description that fills the book. However, sometimes this can be a distraction from the story moving forward. One thing that I did particularly appreciate was Neva herself. Unlike many books in this genre, Neva is slightly older, a widow, and someone who has an assurance of herself and her place in the world. While some of this is lost in the circumstances in which she finds herself, she remains grounded and clear. I hope that some of this clarity of character extends to the other characters in future books as more is discovered about them.

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I always feel bad leaving subpar reviews since I realize that writing a book is not an easy feat, but this book was really hard to get through. Fortunately it was a short read. Yet, I still had to force myself to keep reading multiple times. In its favor, it did get better, but I still did not enjoy this book overall.

The beginning was quite boring and odd. I really did not enjoy it. Some parts of the book were way too detailed while others seemed to breeze over what required more time to explain. Thus, the pacing of the book was not good and made it feel a weird combination of choppy and rushed.

The story itself did get better and more intriguing, but the writing was just way too inconsistent for me. Much of the writing was just plain bad, though some parts were certainly enjoyable, but it was just seemed to jump back and forth and unfortunately, felt pretty untolerable overall.

Additionally, the writing and dialogue of the characters really did not seem to fit the time frame, which annoyed me. The characters also felt pretty static and I can honestly say I did not care for any of them. They were much too boring to develop any attachment.

The story just feel a little flat to be honest.

Thank God this book was only 200-something pages only, because otherwise I would've probably dropped it.

The beautiful cover of this book drew me in the first time, and the promising reviews just fueled my excitement to finally get to this book. Compared to that, it was a huge letdown. This story had a lot of potential: demons vs vampires waging a war, an older heroine (a widow, on top of that), no mushy romances. However, the author falls into one of the typical traps of new authors, which is the inability to show instead of telling. This book felt more like a history book to me rather than a novel, it had very few dialogues and way too much telling, not to mention the pages long descriptions of clothing, rooms, places, whatsoever. That's boring; surely it can appeal to some people, but it's certainly not my cup of tea. I do have to admit, though, that the author's writing style is simply beautiful, close to purple prose but not quite reaching that.

The characters didn't feel real to me, I couldn't get attached to either of them; I couldn't really feel their differences, their uniqueness, none of them stood out for me. The story itself was also awfully predictable and the end of the book was just the cherry on top. I'm still contemplating whether to read the second book because I was certainly not very impressed with this one.

This cover is so gorgeous! This is a vampire tale full of revenge and politics but without the romance stigma most vampire stories have. I found the beginning slow but it picked up quickly giving the gothic tale room for growth in the next book but I never lost interest.

Neva is a victim of being in the wrong place at the wrong time when she catches the eye of a Lord. Rose, who is infatuated with the Lord, decides she doesn't want him giving his attention to anyone else and puts a spell on Neva.

Neva is transformed into a reincarnated Lady and finds herself learning of a vampire world that she never thought existed and learning the politics of their kind. Twists and turns ensue and Neva has to figure out how she is going to survive in this cutthroat world.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me an ecopy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The cover was very alluring and I always enjoy a vampire tale so I was looking forward to reading this. The first couple of chapters were confusing and disjointed. I couldn't work out the time line and there was so much descriptiveness that I lost the story to it. I was tempted to stop reading and would have if this was a book borrowed from the library.

I stuck it out and once there was dialogue it flowed better and the story started to come through. It just always felt like someone else could have written it better. I felt the author was trying to be clever with their wording and everything was over written. Descriptions went on too long and I found myself skimming over a lot of the book. I was searching for the story behind all the unnecessary words. Some more editing would improve this so much.

I applaud the author for writing a finished novel and I believe there are more in the series. I'm sorry to say I won't be reading the others. It had the promise of a good tale, but I felt the author was trying to cover too much. The portals, the time travel, the demons and vampires. And then Van Helsing appears! Redraft, simplify and dump the reflections. This is my humble opinion on improving this novel.

This book was an interesting and fun read! Some parts predictable, but not all of it! I can't wait to read the next one!

I received a copy through Netgalley for a review. I was drawn to the cover originally; its gorgeous! The book was a good read; I am not fan of the writing style but that is just me. The story was good, a bit slow to start, but improves as it goes along and anyone who loves the vampire genre will enjoy it.

My review for this is going to be very short because it was a DNF (did not finish). There was so much inner monologue that it left me with no desire to continue to read the book. Also there was so much vagueness. I understand the author was trying to get you engaged, show mystery and give you a backstory that would make you want to keep reading but I couldn't do it. *shrugs*

Initially I chose this book as the cover drew me in, after reading the blurb I thought I would enjoy it. It took me a few chapters to get into the story however - I found that the story jumped around a bit at first, past and present intermixing yet as you read on it makes more sense. The story revolves around the “heroine” of the book Neva who is a reincarnation of a vampire who is then re-turned back into a vampire. Overall I quite enjoyed the story and it leaves a huge cliff hanger after a few plot twists which makes you want to read on. I would recommended the book to people who enjoy a vampire story and will be reading the next in the series.

This was definitely at first a total cover grab as I was scrolling, but than I read the synposis and my interest was peaked! So I'm a sucker still to this day for vampires, its such a guilty pleasure for me.

Review:
Star Rating~ 4 stars

This story was interesting new story about vampires with what is seeming to be a interesting refreshing new back story for the vampires creation. Neva was a likeable main character and I loved Thedryk. It included great plot twists and the villian in this story is more of a morally grey villain which I just look to see done and can't wait to see how it plays out for the characters!

My biggest issue for this book was the beginning, it was kinda bouncing back and forth for a bit (present/past mixing) without giving good hints of it. It confused me quite a bit for awhile and made me nervous that I wasn't going to enjoy the book, but as you move forward in the story her writing grew and it flowed so nicely.

I will definitely be following the series and the authors growth and highly recommend checking it out if you love vampires or a great fantasy!

I received a copy through NetGalley for review.
3.5 stars.

Don't let the title fool you, it's no fairytale. Although the title plays off the early more vampiric versions of Snow White.
Neva, regular working woman captures the eye of the local lord, her life changes forever.
Rose his former lover, spurned by her jealousy makes a deal with a devil, to eliminate the competition.
She had no way of knowing that she would never see her family again as she rode away in that carriage.
Lovely gothic imagery of vampires, and dark castles. Neva finds out that vampires are nothing like the stories she's been told her entire life, that they are a refined society, forbidden from feeding on humans, surviving on the blood of livestock.
And that she had more in common with the vampires she suddenly finds herself surrounded with than her human family. And that she is an intrinsic piece to their futures and an upcoming war. That she could be the one to decided it all. If she chooses to.

Overall I enjoyed this one, there were a few issues I had with plot transitioning and character development I wish more time was spend on Neva as she adapted to her new surroundings. But the descriptions of the surroundings, towns and villages were fantastic. Also it's very low on romance, so you can skip a weird broody vampire love connection that we so often get in this genre. No insta love here! Which was honestly refreshing.

Really didn't like this book. The beginning was really weird and the writings was not my favorite. I like some vampire books but this was not one of them.

This is unlike any vampire story I have read before. There are lots of characters and plot twists. The ending is not really an ending and leaves you wanting to know what happens next.

A good and easy read with a compelling and different take on vampirism. I wish there was more world-building as I feel we literally jumped into this story head on with no real explanation of the past or how the characters all got there, but none-the-less, it was an enjoyable read.
