Good Time Cowboy by Maisey Yates is the third book in the Gold Canyon series. Sweet and intoxicating this book is a frenemies romance. Maisey does a very thorough back story with Lindy and Wyatt so you can read this one as a standalone. No need to read the other two first. I loved independence and will power Lindy posses and the strength Wyatt has as well. These two are head strong and very easy characters to fall in love with.

Maisey Yates is an author who knows how to write Cowboys and the women who throw them off their game. Good Time Cowboy is part of connecting books and this time she focuses on Lindy and Wyatt.

Lindy is the type of person who needs and likes control, order and results. She owns a winery and has worked to make it become a respected company. She needs to have more business and one way to do it is to partner with the ranch next door.

Wyatt is her contact and he is everything she should not want. He is a Bull Rider like her ex husband, he can't seem to take anything seriously, and nothing phases him.

So why does she have to work with him...
Why does his teasing and flirting push her buttons like they are...
She should not be attracted to him... but somehow she is...

Damn it!

Lindy isn't the only one who is fighting attraction... Lindy is all Wyatt can think about. The only way he can stop himself from just taking her into his arms is to give her challenging banter and teasing... Watching her get all hot and annoyed is a hoot and keeps him from thinking about how beautiful she is...

I was in the mood for a good cowboy romance. I have read amazing reviews for Maisey Yates' previous books and Good Time Cowboy sounded like it would be right up my alley. I was expecting a light, fun, cowboy romance but what I got was so much more. Good Time Cowboy is a gorgeous story about two people with deep emotional scars with a palpable and deep connection to each other.

Lindy is a rigid divorcee vineyard owner partnering with the sexy owner of the ranch next door, Wyatt, to enhance both of their businesses. Somehow, Yates made Lindy both uptight and completely relateable. I loved Lindy and even though we have completely different backgrounds and personalities, I related to her on a personal level. Lindy is so self-reliant and contained, it was an absolute delight watching her open up.

Wyatt was an interesting character. He gives off the easygoing cowboy act but his demons were actually much more serious with bigger roots. I think his character development was pure gold if a little rushed at the end. My favorite part about him is his unwavering support and respect of Lindy as both a person and a business woman.

One of my favorite parts of this book was the more mature ages of the characters. Lindy and Wyatt are both well into their 30s and I felt like I was reading about adults. They both had established businesses and responsibilities, their relationship was important but not the only thing in either of their lives.

Overall this book was a delight and I would can't wait for the next book in the series. This was my first Maisey Yates novel and it sure won't be my last!

There is something about Lindy Parker that gets to Wyatt Dodge. They first met when she was married to a friend of his and since her divorce they've managed to avoid each other. That all changes when they must work together to make both of their businesses a success. The sparks soon fly between Wyatt and Lindy. I loved Wyatt Dodge and his personality. He could rile Lindy up with one simple word - Melinda. The story line is strong and is a continuation of Yates' Gold Valley series. You get to catch up with all of the Dodge family. Overall a great read, though the ending is a little rushed and leaves you wanting more.

I'm a long-time Yates fan, so to say I was surprised at how good this story is really expresses that this is GOOD! In Good Time Cowboy, finally we get Lindy's story. Lindy is the owner of the Grassroots Winery, and she obtained it in a bitter divorce from her unfaithful husband.  With every fiber of her being, she intends to stay away from cocky, arrogant, jerk cowboys like her ex-husband. Unfortunately, she has a business deal with Wyatt Dodge, a friend of her ex, and he falls completely within the cocky arrogant jerk cowboys category.

I thought this story would probably fall into what I call the "3 Step Book": 1. We can't stand each other but there is tons of sexual tension, 2. We argue & have sex, 3. We fall in love, the end. Light-hearted fun - you know that kind of story. There's nothing wrong with that kind of story, but boy, was I wrong. Good Time Cowboy has emotional depths, self-realization, and character growth for both Linday and Wyatt.

Lindy's two year journey after her divorce from Damien has led her to unexpected insights about herself and others that enables her to let go of the bitterness and self-doubt that has plagued her. She understands herself better by the end of the story. I felt like Lindy was a better character at the end of the story, one that I understood more thoroughly. Dodge was written the same way - this cocky cowboy actually had real issues with trying to keep his ranch afloat, a father whose love he doubts, and siblings who don't understand the pressures.

Naturally, the story ends with a happily ever after (Disclosure: In my own rating system, a story may drop an entire level just for depriving me of a happy ending). From the exerpt that follows the story, Yates gives us Grant's story next and I can't wait!

Wow! This story reached out and grabbed me from the start. Lindy and Wyatt's connection was beyond intense. Maisey Yates has turned in another beautiful romance.

Lindy Parker may not like bull riders, thanks to her cheating ex husband who represented several of them, but she knows partnering with Wyatt Dodge will be good for business - hers and his. Can she ignore her blazing attraction to him long enough to see her winery reap the benefits? Does she even want to ignore it?
Wyatt has wanted Lindy since the first time he saw her. Unfortunately, she was married to his friend at the time. Now she's not, but she still seems unattainable. Can he convince her that they can enjoy each other without it being a big deal? What happens when it becomes a big deal anyway.

Contemporary Romance

Gold Valley, Oregon – Present Day

Five years ago, Wyatt Dodge watched Lindy Parker walk into a bar and was instantly attracted to her. However, she was married to his friend, Damien. But Lindy later divorced Damien after the man cheated on her, and as part of her settlement, received his family’s winery. She’s built it into a successful business and is working with Wyatt and his family as a partner in their project to open a dude ranch. Wyatt is cocky, and whenever Lindy is around, he makes fun of her uptight attitude. Could it be that deep down he is still attracted to her?

Lindy grew up in a trailer park and still feels like she can’t shed that stigma despite ten years of marriage to Damien where she upgraded her life and wardrobe. Wyatt annoys her, including the fact that he was friends with her ex and because he’s of the same cloth—bedding women indiscriminately. But Lindy has to work with the man, and as much as he annoys her, she’s also more than a tiny bit intrigued by him. As Lindy battles her unexplained feelings for Wyatt, the intense chemistry between them burns hotter…and hotter.

It’s a return to Gold Valley, Oregon and the Dodge family, who are working hard to open their tourist destination. Lindy’s winery will provide the wine which means she has to work closely with Wyatt. He challenges her to get off her “high horse” and experience the ranch by taking her horseback riding and hiking. Of course, for a woman who wears tight skirts and is always dressed impeccably, this means coming out of her comfort zone. Wyatt is one of those guys who is charming and says whatever he pleases, while Lindy is always controlled. That is, except when it comes to being around him. While she is attracted to him, is he just like her ex?

Wyatt had a successful career as a bull rider but gave it all up to help out the family by opening the ranch to tourists. His father actually owns the property and has given Wyatt a year to make a profit or he’ll sell it, leaving Wyatt and his siblings without the ranch. Why is their father acting like this? Could it have something to do with what happened between Wyatt and his father nineteen years ago? Wyatt’s siblings don’t know about it and he’s not going to tell them, but it has hung over his head all these years. Meanwhile, Lindy continues to intrigue him and the more he challenges her and works with her, the deeper his attraction for her grows. Is Wyatt playing with Lindy’s feelings since he has no intention of committing himself to any woman?

There is plenty of bantering back and forth between Lindy and Wyatt in GOOD TIME COWBOY and it will have readers smiling. These two have been minor characters in at least two prior tales (SMOOTH-TALKING COWBOY and UNTAMED COWBOY) in the Gold Valley series by Maisey Yates, and they have always been antagonistic towards one another. GOOD TIME COWBOY forces them together, and readers will be rewarded when they give in to the desire that’s built up over time. There’s just something sexy about a cowboy who hooks up with a woman who seems way out of his league. But love doesn’t care.

Lindy and Wyatt thought that love wasn’t in the cards for them, but they unexpectedly find it with each other in GOOD TIME COWBOY. Their chemistry sizzles and their interactions sparkle. Find out if the cowboy and his lady find a happily-ever-after together in this entertaining tale you won’t want to miss.

We've met Lindy Parker and Wyatt Dodge in previous books in this series. Lindy is the hard-working vineyard owner whose husband cheated on her and shocked everyone by getting the vineyard in the divorce settlement. Wyatt Dodge left his family's ranch at seventeen to be a bull rider and only recently came back to take it over.

I couldn't wait to read Lindy's story and see her get her HEA. It was even better than anticipated; Yates's writing just gets better and better. Lindy has given up a lot of herself, first with her marriage and then by dedicating herself to her business after her divorce. She and Wyatt have been attracted to each other since their first meeting but there was never a question of them acting on it - or even acknowledging it. Now two years past her divorce, working together has made the awareness of their attraction unavoidable.

For Lindy, this is a struggle because it's Wyatt and also because she's only ever been in one relationship before and it notoriously ended badly. For Wyatt, it's not that he thinks he can't be with one person, but that he doesn't think someone will want to be with him long-term. He's struggling with his family's perception of him and the fact that his father hasn't actually sold him the ranch as everyone thinks; his father will sell it if it's not successful within the time limit he set. They're both justifiably cautious and their previous hurts are something they work on throughout the book. Falling in love causes them to question some of their choices and examine their choices for them as opposed to being for other people. Yates takes the time to carefully build the relationship and how they handle their issues on their own and together. It makes for a deeply satisfying conclusion and I look forward to glimpses of their future in upcoming books.

Another good book from this author and series. i really enjoyed all the back and forth between Lindy and Wyatt. I have been waiting for this book and I loved it. the banter had me laughing out loud and the emotions from their backstory were enough to break your heart. It is a really good read and will leave you feeling happy.

I love the Dodge family! I also love Maisey Yates books. She is becoming my go to when I need something light and fluffy. It is so good. I love Wyatt and Lindy's story and how you get to watch them go from hating each other to loving each other. A real feel-good story. :)

I have been waiting for Lindy’s story for about 3 books now and somehow, I was a little disappointed.

I loved Lindy and Wyatt. They’re both so stubborn and they have excellent banter and chemistry. I loved the button pushing. Of course it’s always fun to see how the previous couples are doing.

Plot wise, it felt really repetitive. There were long blocks of inner monologue and a lot of pushing away. I thrive on dialogue and maybe that’s where my interest fizzled. There were a lot of feelings to work through and backstory to overcome. I guess I was expecting a bit more fluffiness from these two.

Overall, it was a good story and I’m so happy they got their HEA. I’m eager to get to Grant’s story.

I'm just going to ignore the bonus story and focus on the main book. I liked the heroine but I wasn't as big a fan of the hero. His words didn't seem to always match up with his actions. This series is hit or miss and trying to keep track of all the drama is confusing sometimes.

People often see themselves quite different than those around them falling short of their ideal self-image. Such is the case of both Wyatt Dodge and Lindy Parker. Wyatt judges himself on past deeds – decidedly mistakes of his teenage youth and strange family dynamics. Fathers can be demanding but Wyatt’s relationship with his father was fractured by an unfortunate event. And even now a decade plus later Wyatt can’t assuage his guilt and his father as reluctant to forgive him.
Lindy is a product of her social and financial status. Lindy had dreams of a better life for herself and worked hard to get out of her rut. Then she met a man who did all the right things to make Lindy feel special and valued. Until he didn’t. Divorce gave Lindy a firmer hand but she was determined to prove that she earned her new place.
Lindy had grown to hate the rodeo. Her ex-husband did PR for it and her younger brother Dane was on the circuit as a rider. For some unexplained reason Lindy had a particular unfriendly reaction to Wyatt who had at one time been a star client of her ex. Could be that just looking at Wyatt reminded her of just why she and Damien were now divorced. But if being honest with herself that just wasn’t fair. Damien had cheated on Lindy – at least one time that she witnessed – but he easily could have been a busy boy all those days on the road.
Life is kind of funny. Now Lindy winds up as owner of Damien’s family winery the Grassroots Winery and in a strange twist of fate she is working with Wyatt, owner of the Get Out Of Dodge dude ranch on a joint project to bring more business to each of their enterprises. The word frenemies had never fit better than watching these two ride the proverbial fence in getting their plan BBQ event ready.
Flash back several years to a time when Lindy was still married to Damien and met Wyatt. Their attraction was instant and hot. Timing couldn’t have been worse for these two. And with respect to Lindy’s marriage and his friendship with Damien – Wyatt of course put any attraction on a back burner.
Now though that simmer is reaching a boiling point. And both Lindy and Wyatt are being tested at their ability to work through this attraction and keep their contacts on a strictly business level. Life has a way of intruding on all sorts of relationships. Lindy has lots of baggage and has learned some tough life lessons about keeping a tight rein on her heart. She learned it was easier to erect walls to keep uneasy feeling where they belonged. Wyatt has shouldered an enormous amount of responsibility all his life since his mother died. As oldest sibling he did what needed to be done. At times at a personal cost. But that didn’t factor into his choices. Now back at the ranch Wyatt is once again being tested – this time by his father. He has one year to make the ranch profitable again. If not then the family ranch will be sold.
Maisie Yates likes to write about family conflicts and interactions. GOOD TIME COWBOY is actually book three in her Gold Valley series. But for those fans of her Copper Ridge series you can expect to revisit some old friends. Lindy and Wyatt are two excellent examples of Maisie Yates angst ridden characters. There are times you just want to reach into the pages and shake them. Looking for a good beach read then GOOD TIME COWBOY is just the thing.

There is a good story in here, but the book really needed an editor. It just got so repetitions and tiresome as both the hero and heroine kept rehearsing all their emotional baggage over and over and over. They would think about it and then talk about it and then come back later to do it all over again. Another tired trope is that their attraction for each other dates back to five years previously when they saw each other in a bar and immediately felt a mutual attraction that was like a lightning strike that felt different from average sexual attraction. Does that happen anywhere other than in romance novels?

I felt that this novel would have been improved by subtracting about 150 pages. That’s a lot of extra writing. Trust readers to get what you’re trying to communicate about your characters the first time. We don’t need to have it beaten into our heads.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

When Lindy and Wyatt saw each other for the first time it was though they had been struck by lightning. But Lindy was married to Wyatt's friend and so that was that. Then years later, after Lindy divorces her philandering husband, her attraction to Wyatt is as strong as ever. They have both been hurt in life and love so it takes a lot of work for them to be able to trust each other. I really enjoyed this book and love the series.

"This thing between us...I don't know what the hell it is. If I kiss you right now, if you kissed me back...I think we would light this whole vineyard on fire. All those pine trees would go up like a lit match and dry tinder. We'd start a whole forest fire, baby. I don't want to give you a gift. I want to burn out this thing between us until there's nothing left but ashes. Ashes aren't a gift. They're evidence of destruction. That's what I think might happen if we touch. That we may well ruin everything around us, but it might be worth it."

Good Time Cowboy is the perfect read for a hot summer day...

Good Time Cowboy is the third book in the Gold Valley Series, but it can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone novel. Good Time Cowboy follows the story of Wyatt and Lindy. Lindy is trying to move on from the divorce of her husband. While she may have lost his lying, cheating self; Lindy gained his family and the vineyard. There's nothing Lindy won't do to see the vineyard succeed. And if she has to team up with her ex's bff, then she'll do just that...Wyatt is everything Lindy shouldn't want, but can't stay away from. He's her total opposite. And even though these two should stay away from one another the fire between them is just to hot to let burn out...

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I loved the writing and the story-line sucked me in. I really enjoyed Lindy and Wyatt together. I thought they had great banter and I loved their chemistry. Their story had just the right mix of steam and drama. I enjoyed watching Wyatt and Lindy navigate their way to a happily ever after and I couldn't put their story down. Good Time Cowboy is the perfect read to spend the day getting lost in. Oh, and there's a bonus novella at the end that was a fun little treat.

There are times Lindy has to make Wyatt see sense, “It’s four in the afternoon,” she said. “I cannot stay in bed with you the entire day.” Wyatt is not a bashful man, “you’re the one who has somewhere to be,” he said slowly, “not me.” Then he grinned. “And my clothes are still downstairs.” I liked this book, I loved how Wyatt broke down Lindy's defenses.
