Keep the tissues close by as you are reading THE CHRISTMAS REMEDY. These authors will have your emotions all over the place. Once I started reading, it was very hard to stop! The twists and turns made it impossible to put down, as I had to know what was going to happen to all of these characters. All of the characters feel genuine and relatable and put your emotions on one heck of a roller coaster ride. As you are reading, you will find yourself cheering for all of them, praying they can work out their problems and be happy once again. Holly Zook has a dream to bring health care to her Amish people. Her ultimate dream is to become an LPN, so she will then have the right to do more than deliver the life-giving medicines she takes to the area Amish homes that need them.

Just because THE CHRISTMAS REMEDY is only two hundred pages, doesn’t mean you will feel cheated. The story is just the perfect length to meet and care for each character. Holly goes into action after an illness, false claims, and sabotage threatens to close Greene’s Pharmacy. When she needs a friend to help her, Josh steps in. If you have never read these authors, this book would make a perfect introduction to the reader. Get comfortable in your favorite chair and be ready to be totally entertained by these wonderful authors.

THE CHRISTMAS REMEDY is without a doubt one of the best novellas I’ve read. I was instantly emotionally invested in all of the characters. Cindy and Erin Woodsmall really know how to write about family drama, heartbreak, faith and forgiveness. I can not wait to read more stories by them. They are among my favorite Amish fiction authors and this novella are exactly why.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

She comes to help her community. But it helps her! The story begins as an Amish, Holly, continues her education and decides to work in her local pharmacy. Holly focuses on her career, a change from the norm in her community. She then struggles as a man comes into her life.

This is a wholesome book, where love wins.

I listened to this Amish story as part of my Christmas Readathon. It didn't have a lot of Christmas in the story except for the last couple of chapters and the time of year the story was set. This short and sweet story was a bit different from many Amish romances, but with a theme that I am seeing more often. Holly, is unique among Amish woman with dreams of working to assist others in her community. She wants to serve them through the pharmaceutical world as well as getting a nursing degree to help them understand the value of medication. She understands that she can not marry as a married Amish woman does not work outside the home. Pharmacy student Brandon also faces his own internal struggles regarding his future. His father has suffered a stroke and needs Brandon to come home and help him. Brandon returns home to find that his father is in danger of losing the pharmacy, but is reluctant to change anything to modernize.

This was a nice story about looking at what is really important in life, family relationships, and love. Both these characters find someone that they care about and make changes in their lives to follow those dreams, while still being true to themselves. There is also a bit of a mystery that Holly and her friend Joshua work hard to solve growing closer together as they do so. I enjoyed the peek into health care from a pharmacist POV and all they go through to help their customers. This was an enjoyable, intriguing read with characters I liked that I do recommend.

Described by the author as a “special Amish Christmas novella”, The Christmas Remedy is the first collaboration written, and fourth published, by Cindy Woodsmall and her daughter-in-law Erin Woodsmall. It is a short, easy read featuring both Amish and non-Amish characters.

As the title infers, a small-town pharmacy is at the center of this romantic mystery and part of the story takes place during the holiday season. Holly Noelle Zook, one of the primary characters, is a delightful 24-year-old Amish woman. She received special permission from her bishop to continue her education in order to become qualified to pursue her passion for helping bring better health care to her Amish community through her work at family run Greene’s pharmacy.

It was a pleasant surprise to meet untraditional Holly and read of her ambitions and the support she received from friends and the community. While a pleasant and “clean” story, I was a bit disappointed that this was also a somewhat bland read and the holiday tie-in was minimal.

5 Stars: 5/5 Star Rating
This book has captured the true spirit of Christmas as Holly works to help the Amish people she loves and cares so much for. She gives unselfishly of herself and embodies the spirit of Christmas and inspires and encourages those around her.
I truly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to readers and lovers of Amish and Christian fiction. It was especially meaningful to read it at Christmastime.

I enjoyed reading “The Christmas Remedy” by Cindy Woodsmall. It was the first book I’ve read by her and her daughter Erin. This was a sweet Amish romance between Holly Zook and Josh Smucker. Holly is a young Amish woman who works as a pharmacy tech and feels she can’t marry and have babies because then she’d have to give up her work which is really important to her. But then she meets Josh and begins to wonder if she can marry and still help her Amish community understand how important it is to take care of your health. We also get to meet her sister Ivy (whose story is in “A Christmas Haven”) and Brandon and Julie who I hope to read more about in the future as well. If you’re looking for a short Christmas read, check out this book.

Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read and review.

The Christmas Remedy by Cindy Woodsmall sheds a new light Amish health issues. Holly, who is Amish, has gotten permission to further her education and is now a pharmacy tech at Greene’s Pharmacy and plans to become a nurse. She has feelings for Joshua Smucker but puts them aside as she can’t have a career and marriage. Her plan to avoid Joshua is fouled when a mystery patient and paperwork threatens to shut down the pharmacy and Joshua is needed to help solve the mystery. Lyle Greene has always tried to help the Amish even when it hurts his bottom line. Lyle is widowed and estranged from his son who just graduated from school as a pharmacist. Everything changes when Lyle has a stroke and is unable to work or live alone for a time. Brandon, Lyle’s son, is studying to take his licensing exams but must come home to help his father. They hire the help they need to keep the pharmacy open but can they overcome the differences that have kept them apart? Will Holly and Joshua find a compromise?
Great story! I have read many Amish stories and know they are reluctant to seek regular healthcare. This is an interesting look at that issue. It is also a story of loving each and healing through loss. I give this book 5 of 5 stars.

The Christmas Remedy by Cindy Woodsmall and Erin Woodsmall
When an Old Order Amish woman takes a job at a small-town pharmacy struggling to survive in a world of “big box” stores, her motive is to help her Plain community. But the advent of the holiday season brings an unusual mystery to the surface–and possibly love.
Twenty-four-year-old Holly Zook lives a unique life for a young Amish woman. Years ago, her bishop allowed her to continue her education and become the lead technician for Greene’s Pharmacy, an old-timey drugstore that looks out for the Amish community–a group largely without secure healthcare plans. She knows she can’t marry and hold onto her professional job. She’s Amish, and she can only have one or the other, so she spurns love and works toward addressing treatable diseases–like the one that claimed her father’s life.
As long as Holly continues to avoid Joshua Smucker, the one man who draws her like a warm hearth in winter, she should be fine. When something unexpected threatens Greene’s Pharmacy, Holly and Joshua must work together to unravel what’s happened and find the “missing” patient before the Board of Pharmacy shuts them down. As the snows of December arrive, with Christmas in the air, will Holly succumb to the generous spirit of the season?
This is Holly Zook and Joshua Smucker's story.
Holly want to help bridge the gap between the Amish way of life and for them to get the medical care and the education they need!
Holly has worked full time at the pharmacy with Lyle Greene.
Holly dream is to become an LPN, so she will then have the right to do more than deliver the life-giving medicines she takes to the area Amish homes that need them. With her nursing license, she could answer questions about the medications the doctors prescribed.
Lyle Green’s son, Brandon lives in the city and going to school.
Joshua Smucker comes to Greene's to pick up his mother's insulin, Holly is confronted with the one man who might have a chance to knock her off her course.
Joshua Smucker is a chicken farmer.
I highly recommend reading.

"The Christmas Remedy" relates the story of a very unconventional Amish woman who seeks a career outside of being a wife and mother. Both Holly and her sister Ivy are independent-minded women! Holly believes that her life's mission is to minister to the Amish people as a health care provider, working as a pharmacy tech in a small town pharmacy. A conflict occurs when the pharmacy owner Lyle has a stroke and his son Brandon arrives to help manage the pharmacy. Brandon's life takes a sudden new direction as he experiences small town life and caring for others.

Another primary thread in this novel involves the growing relationship between Holly and an Amish farmer. They work together to solve problems related to the pharmacy, and then encounter new facets to their own personalities.

I liked the portrayal of Holly as a strong and independent woman who seeks to break away from traditional Amish female roles. She does this with the knowledge and permission of her bishop. The characters are well-drawn and the plot moves forward at a pace that keeps the reader engaged. The ending wraps things up nicely, while portraying the personal growth experienced by all the main characters. The Christmas setting is incidental to the main action of the story. The Christian aspect is present but not overt or preachy.

Readers who enjoy unconventional people who work to take care of each other will enjoy this different take on Amish romance.

I received this book from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

Delightful story featuring the Amish community. Only this title merges Amish with English. There is some romance involved, but the primary theme I got was the idea of working together for the common good.

This is an outstanding Amish Romantic Suspense Story. The Amish main characters are Holly & Joshua.
Holly promotes active Personal Health Management in her Amish Community, as she works at small local Pharmacy. But a crisis occurs that could close the Pharmacy. Holly & Joshua work together to solve the crisis. Is God calling them to a more permanent relationship? I Highly Recommend you read Cindy Woodsmall's Fantastic, Engrossing novel: "The Christmas Remedy", to find out what happens! ♥️📖 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Holly Zook has a passion for helping people. Her bishop has allowed her the opportunity to further her education. With this she has been able to become the lead technician at the local pharmacy, Greene's Pharmacy. With her choice she realizes that she could never marry or become a proper Amish wife and mother. Continuing to spurn Joshua Smucker is the only way that she can hold to her path. However, she is drawn to him and when Greene's Pharmacy's future is called into question, Holly must work with Joshua to make sure it continues. Will they be able to find love? Can Holly have the best of both worlds?
I love how this story embraces the idea that we can strive for our dreams. Sacrifices sometimes have to be made but a happily ever after is possible. I love the characters and how they help one another. I received a copy through Netgalley. A review was not required.

This 2018 holiday confection from publisher Waterbrook Multnomah bills itself on the front cover as an Amish romance. There was a romantic subplot, but the book definitely put a new spin on the old "gotta save the charming local business at Christmas" plot.

Wonderful Amish story of the struggles this young woman went through to get her education but to help out her community and the people she loved! The people jump out at you to think you are one of the many that she helps out and what adventures they have!!! Great book for Christmas or anytime of the year!!

I liked this book fine - it didn’t stand out among the other holiday books I’ve read. There was nothing that stood out to make it great.

The Christmas Remedy was a cozy Christmas tale with a nice combination of Amish and Englisch characters. I enjoyed the uniqueness of Holly’s situation as a pharmacy technician who also happened to be Amish.

The romance between Holly and Josh was low key. Holly saw no way to balance the ability to further her eduction, something which she had special permission to do from her bishop, and hold a job in the working world with the possiblity of love, marriage, and family.

I enjoyed watching as Holly, Josh, and the pharmacist’s son, Brandon, worked to save the pharmacy when an investigation into their pharmaceutical practices was opened.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Originally, I had read The Angel of Forest Hill by Cindy Woodsmall and I really, really enjoyed it, so naturally I had high hopes for The Christmas Remedy. And, I'm pleased to say, I loved it! It didn't hit me as hard as The Angel of Forest Hill, but nevertheless it was still an excellently written story. I thought the premise of Holly being a nurse + lead technician in Greene's interesting and definitely intriguing, and the romance was also done well. I would've liked to learn more about Joshua though.

Overall, cute story! Probably one that I will reread at some point. 4 stars.

Holly Zook is unique among the Amish women in her community. This 24 year old Old Order Amish woman has the permission of the bishop in her community to further her education past the usual eighth grade education Amish receive. She has become the lead technician for Greene's Pharmacy an old fashioned drug store where the pharmacist treats her like family . Holly knows she is unable to marry because she knows Amish women are expected to marry young and raise babies right away. Her job wouldn't leave room for both and she knows an Amish man wouldn't allow her to work, she should be in the home he would think. Avoiding the one man should would consider for a romance, Joshua Smucker is not as easy as it should be when they keep seeming to run into each other. The work together to find a "missing" patient before the Board of Pharmacy shuts them down. Will Holly let her attraction to Joshua become a romance when she realizes his deep interest in her?
Sweet subtle romance with intrigue and an investigation as well. Very interesting to read about how the Amish feel about health care and pharmacies.
I have always enjoyed books by this author and look forward to reading many more. Highly recommended!
