Being an origin story, I found this a little hard to follow at first, trying to remember what I had read previously about the character. Very quickly, this wasn't an issue. Ms. Kenyon's writing is always detailed, engaging, and at times brutal and this excerpt is no different. You quickly connect with the characters to an almost painful degree given how unkind "life" is to them. Can't wait for the full tale.

I am a huge fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon and I have read all her books that are out so far.

This preview excerpt is well written and I did buy the book after reading this .

Stygian is a great story that is well written.

I do highly recommend.

Great little tease . If you are a fan of Sherrilyn's Dark Hunter series, you do not want to miss Stygian, and everything it has to offer.

Wow
I so need more after reading that.
It goes into more background detail of many main characters.
I’ve loved this series. I’ll admit I probably liked the earlier books more.
But the author still brings it to life.

How do I start. It left me speechless but not in the way I should imagine. I wished that the author did not retell parts of the story that were already published. I understand maybe to help readers remember (as her story line of the dark hunters is huuuge), but about 75% of the book was that. If I had to buy this book like this I would feel really bitter about it.
The book has the same tone as the other books. It feels like a sherrilyn Kenyon read so there was nothing wrong with that. Did not feel connected to this story like I do to her previous works. Maybe because in her previous works the expected HEA was not what was in this book. That is a story line issue that I have.
My biggest gripe would be the excessive retelling of everything. For me that did not add anything. I would consider buying this book a waste of money

I usually buy this Author's books as soon as they become available -------- I am a great fan
However the last coup[e of books seem almost to be a cut and paste version of previous stories .

That also seems to be the case with this book ………… it starts well and with originality with Urian's backstory but soon morphs into scenes from all the other books he has appeared in ……… however the ending was original .
How I whish they Author would return to her previous best …. that is great characters , originality and superb worldbuilding .
I am unsure if I will continue to read anymore of this series .
I wish I could be more positive about the book , but this is not the first or second book that appears to rely on cutting and pasting from the previous ones in the series …………… such a shame !

I was given an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review

My only real complaint about this excerpt is that it leaves more to be desired. That is, of course, the hazard of reading only part of a book. Sherrilyn Kenyon shows herself to be a capable author who deftly crafts literary science fiction -- in case you had not seen those terms put together, check out her work, including Stygian.

Kindly provided with an Excerpt via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review......

First off let me say I have SO WANTED to read Urian's book in what has left like FOREVER !!!!!. In my mind after reading the blurb I had it all planned Urian and Pheobe would be reunited and all would be well in my world once more. But Sherrilyn had to go and make this so much more exciting than that !!!.
This excerpt completely through me !!!! Urian indeed does seem to have once again go though hell to get a measure of his HEA or should I say his HFN ?. Okay Xyn, damn you Sherrilyn you just had to make me like her didn't you !!!!. I grumbled and whined but I loved it really x
Yes, I have greedily read some of the other reviews and can get on board that a chunk of this excerpt was re-telling Urian's back story with Styxx , Savitar and crew but you know what I just love it all so I devour it all !!! I am absolutely fixated on the DH world. I literally give my self a head ache mentally willing Sherrilyn to write more of these books and faster, faster !! Grabby hands !!!
I am pinning away for Savitar's book or Nicks, Remi, Sascha's, Solin's or Jaden or even Jared's......any, all, now !!!!!!! Oops my obsession creeping out there into this little review x

For me Sherrilyn has nailed this series. They are exceptionally well written, interwoven and each and every character has been breathed to life. They are so real you actually believe they could be out there some-where. Deep breath and moving on........so for me this snippett rocked !!!

Perfect, gripping story line once again Sherrilyn !!!

Many thanks for this excerpt opportunity xx

Later peeps xx

A bit of a waste of time, tbh. Sorry. I realised it was an excerpt, but something more interesting might have piqued my interest.

As always this author has such an imagination that just astounds me, not to mention lengthy books that suck me into another world. Loved the excerpt but reviewing an excerpt is not my thing. Five stars for the sneak peak though.

Oh, wow, this book was a doozy! It was so fantastic to see Urian as a child, and meeting all of his siblings, and yeah, learning that he'd been married before, that was kidna huge! I mean, I knew he had a life before Phoebe, but she was the one that he talked about, because she was the most recent loss.

I mean, I kinda knew that Phoebe wouldn't be his happily ever after lady. After all, this book is in the Dragons Rising trilogy, instead of Dragonbane. Which meant that Urian's lady was going to be a Dragon. As in, the Falcyn's sister that we found out was still alive in Dragonsworn.

I'm a bit conflicted about this book. I mean, I absolutely loved it, don't get me wrong. But the whole threat of Helios, well, it doesn't get dealt with, and the whole thing that Urian's first wife was working for him, that just fizzled out. And there wasn't any real big battle at the end. It was just a little disappointing, that they would be through all this, and not having a big fight.

Plus, the synopsis is a bit misleading. Given that he knew her before he knew Phoebe, well, he was in love with her for centuries. And the synopsis makes it sound like they only just met. Bah. Maybe the synopsis was from a different version of the book, that it got changed in some way? Hopefully that's it!

That ending with the truce between the Daimons and the Dark-Hunters, yeah, that's a pretty big deal! And also a big deal, is that Apollo has Urian's blood, who has Egyptian, Atlantean, and Greek powers, and yeah, that's not good, given that he wanted it!

This book was just so freaking fantastic, and set up so much for future books! I can't wait!

This was a preview except about Urian of the House of Aricles, not the full book. The except I read was all in the past and were the early years of Urian. While Sherrilyn Kenyon was once my absolute favorite author, I must admit that I haven’t read any of her books in several years due one being seriously disappointing. That’s not to say I haven’t bought them, I have, they are just far down on my TBR list. When I saw this excerpt pop up, I decided it was time to get back to the world she has built that I so loved. Once I started reading the excerpt, I couldn’t put it down. I breezed through it and it made me want to go back and catch back up. I can’t wait to read the rest of the book.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book

I have only read the except but so far I am enjoying Stygian. Be warned you do need to read the other books first. Once I have read the full book I will update my review .

Stygian was a bit of a surprise for me. I wasn't expecting it to follow Urian from his birth to his current time. The story gives you a different perspective of Daimons. Stryker didn't start out being the ultimate bad guy, he was a caring and loving father trying to protect his family. Urian was always the odd one out, different from others of his kind he was shunned by his own people for a very long time. While he would have eventually become a Daimon, the timing was more accident than by design. He is a very sympathetic character when you learn his history.

Reading this story is kind of nostalgic and makes you want to go back and read the books from the beginning. To re-live some of those moments that we now see through Urian's eyes. I am currently behind on the last few books, so my perspective of the book has more to do with the inside look at Urian and what brought him to where he is today.

This excerpt definitely has me wanting to read more. I am looking forward to getting the book and finding out what happens.

Not my favorite of the Dark Hunter series. I was hoping for a lot of lingering questions to be answered and thus far they haven’t been. But hey, it’s a revisit with some of my favorite characters, so there is that

My thanks to Netgalley, MacMillan-Tor Forge and Sherrilyn Kenyon for an ARC. My opinions are 100% my own and independent of receiving an ARC.

This is a review of the EXCERPT of the novel, which I was given as a preview to review and is now available to buy. (and yes, I have already purchased it) I am a huge fan of Kenyon and this series. I have all of the Dark Hunter books and I am trying to catch up to the this one, the 29th, oh my goodness, I don’t know how she does it, 29 books! As many have said before, it would be difficult to just jump into this one if you are trying to read this as a standalone and you won’t be doing yourself, or this series, any justice if you try. Much better to check out the first one and see if you are interested. It is a huge commitment, both time and money, but there is always the library and I love how good it feels to slip back into a comfortable story.

I’m so excited, finally, we get the whole back story on Urian. Every villain has to have his day, and this is his. If you have read any of my other reviews, you know I’m a sucker when an author can turn the tables, giving us a whole new perspective on what we thought we knew about this character. We also get to discover what makes a bad guy tick, and just like in real life, no one is all bad or all good. Things happen to us that help shape us into who we are. So bring it on! I can’t wait to read the whole thing.

Love the Dark Hunters and Sherrilyn Kenyon's writing. I was so excited to get this taste of the newest book in that series. What a tease! I can't wait to get the full book. These books just grab you and pull you in. This one is no exception!

I have an updated post on my blog that reviews the full book.

I was recently able to read an excerpt of Stygian by Sherrilyn Kenyon as given to me by Netgalley and Macmillian Tor/Forge Publishing. This excerpt contained about 200 pages. I am already invested in what is happening. I love the Dark-Hunter series because of the intricate plots within plots. Solving the mystery of these has become a bit of an obsession of mine. I don't mind the depths these plots contain, or the attention I pay to minute things, or the rereads I feel are necessary.

In Stygian, there is background information contained when necessary. I would not have felt anything missing if Stygian was my first Dark-Hunter book. The entire series, however, breaks into subsets. For example, Stygian is the Lords of Avalon #7, Dark-Hunter Dragons Rising Trilogy #3, Were-Hunters #12, Dark-Hunter #29. I am a big series reader, and this is one series worth experiencing in its entirety.

To be honest, the Lords of Avalon and Dragon Rising books are among my favorites. I am fond of the dragons (and mandrakes). As with the other Dragon Rising books, even Styxx and Acheron, I anticipate sections of this book will cross into plotlines already addressed. That doesn't bother me. As previously mentioned, I reread the Dark-Hunter books anyway. In Stygian, the drakomai Xyn is a principal character. The prospect of her story joining with Urian's is intriguing. Wherever Stygian goes, I am impatient for it, especially now.

Although enthusiastic for Urian's tale, I admit being leery of it. Both Acheron and Styxx were arduous for me. Their books rip your heart out, shove it back and start all over again. Tissues are a must. Don't get me wrong, I loved experiencing Acheron and Styxx's journey, but it was a hard ride. Formatted the same in that we begin with Urian's birth in ancient times, I worried Urian would have an upbringing filled with isolation. Urian does have it rough, but so far, it was not as tumultuous as I anticipated. It could be much of that comes later, I am sure some of it will, but I feel better knowing that Urian felt love and friendship to a degree. Where does that leave me? Counting down the days until I get Stygian in its entirety. I have full faith Urian's journey will be worth the wait and do him justice. All opinions are my own, and I encourage readers to reach their own conclusions.

I thought this was a full copy of the book when I requested it, so I won't be reading and reviewing this. I will wait until I get my hands on the full book.
