I thoroughly enjoyed this entire series. I absolutely could not wait for one book to finish before awaiting breathlessly for the next. This book absolutely did not disappoint. The story picks up from where the first book ends giving us background and relevance to many open questions left over from the first book. There is enough action and twists and turns to delight an action loving reader.

Full review to come.
I deeply apologize, but life is a handful lately and I'm using all my free time to read, not review. I hope everybody understands.

A powerhouse of a series. Superlative worldbuilding, great protagonists, interesting side characters. Falco and Jessop have taken the Blade. With a war on two fronts, Jessop leads one army to their former home where Kohl, the man who she betrayed, has taken over. Falco stays with their son and defends the Blade. With an enemy in hand, and rebellion put down, they now face the most devastating loss. As the army races to barren lands........wham. Cliffhanger. Cannot recommend this series enough. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book from Netgalley.

I have been eagerly looking forward to this sequel and I wasn’t disappointed. This book delves more into the backgrounds of the main characters and helps the reader to understand their motivations a bit more. The first book did have a twist, a lot of reviewers liked it and a few didn't, and I think the follow up to The Glass Blade helps clear up a lot! However don’t think this means the book is without action- there is plenty of that happening throughout the book! It does jump back and forth between the past and present, which I didn't mind but I know can disturb other readers. While I still find Jessop a hard character to sympathise with all the time I can definitely understand her nature a bit more now. I am still curious to see how the dynamics between Jessop, Falco, and Kohl will play out in the third book. While I know who I think is supposed to end up together- we all know it’s not that straightforward and these characters have a complicated relationship. All in all I was happy with this sequel and I am now (trying) patiently to wait for the final installment. I am curious to see where the story will go and how the trilogy is going to come to an end.

A book I didn't want to put down. It took me on an adventure with characters that I could relate to and root for. I appreciated the excellent writing and description of places, experiences and moments between the characters that made me feel as though I was right there. I highly recommend this book.
