This was cute, quick, repetitive, and definitely relatable for any child (or their parent) who just has to do “one last thing” before bed! The illustrations were beautiful and it was easy to love Miyuki and her grandfather. Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC!

Such a whimsical experience! Truly, dreamy illustrations of a little girl who just does not want to go to bed. Loved this one.

Beautiful and lyrical, we follow Miyuki and her patient, loving grandfather through a series of tasks before Miyuki can be ready for bed. A step out of the ordinary and humdrum books with similar topics, we get tasks of preparing for dragonfly queens and aligning snails for the night. A calm and gentle book for bed time with wonderful POC representation.

ime for Bed, Miyuki is a lovely book aimed at younger children (and their caregivers). I was enchanted from page one. The story is familiar to everyone who has ever interacted with a young child. ... "Just one more thing before bed"! Luckily Miyuki's grandfather is the epitome of patience.

There is a concept called 'iterative contextual repetition' (or similar formulations), which basically says that the human brain learns by hearing and repeating the same things over and over and learning things by gradually building lists is a very effective way to learn. There are many examples of cumulative songs/poems/stories such as The 12 Days of Christmas, The Rattlin' Bog, The House that Jack Built, and others. This book uses that format very effectively for the narrative text.

Miyuki's whimsically imaginative before-bedtime to-do list includes a pavilion for the coming visit of the Dragonfly Queen (and her court), taking her snails for a walk, knitting a sweater for her cat, and more. Each activity is accompanied by full page illustrations which are breathtakingly lovely, crisp, and beautifully rendered. This is a wonderful book for children and adults alike and would make a super read-together for bedtime (or library read-along).

Superlative book. Five stars

Everyone who has put a child to bed will identify with the grandfather trying to get his granddaughter to finish up each one-more-thing before she settles in for the night. The amazing illustrations detail the beautiful and imaginary world that Miyuki must attend to before she goes to sleep.

What a beautiful book. The story is a delight and the illustrations are divine. It’s central character reminds me of many children who will find anything to distract them from going to sleep.
It’s a perfect bedtime tale for families.

Lovely and whimsical bedtime tale for children!

This charming story follows Miyuki on a seemingly never-ending journey of completing important tasks before it is lights out. Anyone that has ever tried to put wee ones to bed can relate to the levels of procrastination Miyuki achieves in this delightfully lighthearted story. The illustrations are beautifully detailed and sure to capture the attention of a variety of age ranges.

Such a cute story of how Grandpa is trying to get Miyuko to go to bed and to sleep. She is procrastinating, but the jobs she wants to get done are very important and beautiful. She is not trying to stay up late to watch TV or play video games, she is making sure the flowers are watered and a canopy is built. The story is short and can easily be read as a bedtime story or to a classroom of younger students. The illustrations are very beautiful and children will enjoy viewing them as much as adults. I am giving this book a solid 4-star review for the sweet story and the beautiful illustrations.

Sweet bedtime story! Miyuko doesn't want to go to bed yet, there's just too much to do! Her poor Grandfather certainly is indulgent! But he's a grandparent, they are like that! I love the snail hunt to bring all the snails home for the night! Littles will enjoy this story. The illustrations are wonderful and whimsical. I can't wait to see the book as I am sure with color illustrations it will be beautiful!

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! Time for Bed, Miyuki just jumped to the top spot on my list of best picture books of the year. The story is lovely and the illustrations by Seng Soun Ratanavanh are just beautiful.

There's no deep lesson here, just a sweet, sweet story about a little girl, Miyuki, whose grandfather would very much like her to accept that it is bedtime. Miyuki, though, has far too many things she still needs to do before she could possibly think about going to bed. Her grandfather gamely helps her finish such important tasks as building a canopy for the dragonfly queen's impending visit and dancing the last dance of the day to thank the sun for shining so nicely.

Roxane Marie Galliez has written a story that is simple and charming. The story is both unique yet familiar -- anyone who has tried to put an active child to bed knows this story. I loved the use of repetitive text after each task was finished and the story is just short enough that hearing "one more time!" wouldn't make me cringe.

Miyuki takes her time as she puts off going to bed. Her grandfather lovingly and patiently waits for Miyuki to complete her tasks and be ready. Finally, Miyuki is tucked in, hears a bedtime story and falls asleep.

This is an absolutely gorgeous book! The illustrations are of such high quality with their whimsy, imagination and bright colors. The text is sweet and repeats, something that is quite appealing to young children. This book will be a welcome addition for those looking for gentle bedtime stories. Highly recommended!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an arc in exchange for my honest review.

I absolutely love this book, the illustrations are beautiful, I adore the mix of patterns and colours in each of the pictures.
From the insects to the flowers it is all lovely.

I enjoyed the story line too, it was really easy to read, flowed well and was a good length.

Grandpa tucking Miyuki into bed in a shoe with the lily of the valley glowing around her is my favorite page of all.

I will definitely be getting a hard copy of this story book for my children. This book is like a beautiful nonsensical day dream. The colors and style of the artwork are some of the most memorizing I have ever seen in a children's book. Roxane Marie Galliez and Seng Soun Ratanavanh have really out done themselves with the grace, playfulness, and imagination contained with in these pages.

A very commendable and clever fantasia for the young that refuse to fall asleep at the right time, starring a girl who certainly seems to have that down pat. Here, however, her world is all concerned with shepherding snails, preparing bowers for dragonfly queens, and making herself look the best in case stars visit from the heavens. Well, it certainly beats the 'just one more life' demand of a young gamer. Her unique situation is represented in a really lovely way by the artist, using patterning, lines, forms and textures in a boldly heightened way to create a unique, colourful existence – an existence with a very unusual scale, which will be evident to even the very young. The patterning aspect of the book is in the text, too, as the girls' demands on her poor grandfather escalate, leading to a climax I was just a page turn ahead of. I think the young will really take to this, for it's distinctive and surely will stand out.

The sun is setting, and grandpa says it's time for bed. But Miyuki has a lot of things to do before she sleeps! And so starts a small adventure with all the things this little girl has to do before she goes to bed.

Time for Bed, Miyuki is a sweet and short bedtime story, accompanied by incredible illustrations and vibrant colors. The narration is calm and fairy tale-like, making this a very good bedtime story.
