This is a fictionalized tale of the first microwave. The illustrated are excellent. They really bring the mad scientist vibe. The story is nice but could be better. The author played up the fun and silliness but I think it could have used a little more “why” things happen instead of a real explanation at the end of the book.

What an exciting way to teach children about the invention of the microwave. I have to admit I did not know either so I learned something new too. I found the book entertaining as well as well illustrated. It was put into words a young to older child could understand. The book was just long enough to hold a child's interest without loosing them. Radar the Wolf was a cute addition and added some fun to the story. The illustrations were very colorful and added a big punch to the book. I love the Dr. Brainchild character and the way he was illustrated. I hope to see more books on Dr. Brainchild and Radar as they invent more things.

Dr. Brainchild is a scientist and Radar is his faithful dog. Together, through a series of fun experiments, they discover microwaves. The book explains what a microwave is and how they work when it comes to cooking our food in a fun and educational story with cool and quirky illustrations.

This was a fun book to read discussing a little about how the microwave oven came to be in a fictional setting. I read it with my youngest and she enjoyed the little bits of humor mixed in along with a little detail about how we got our modern microwave ovens.

This book was great! My 8 year old read it with me. Dr. Brainchild is a fun, quirky character that is relatable to kids. Radar is the perfect assistant and best friend. My son stated he liked that there were experiments and of course the endless supply of popcorn. As a parent I liked that the book presented facts in a way a child could comprehend and not realize they were necessarily learning something until the end when the more factual, historic part was presented. I will definitely be looking into more Dr Brainchild and Radar books for my kids.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I really liked the idea behind this book, the fact is it based on a true events and is an introduction to science and inventing is a lovely idea for a childrens book.
I liked the illustrations , however i found Radar to be inconsistent and varied between looking like a wolf a dog and a cat on some pages.
I also found the language used to be more advanced than the rest of the book some examples of this - "I thank you kindly and profusely " "Radar Dutifully followed the wacky doctor".
