Dee is a gp and single mother whose husband has left her for a student 30 years her junior and moved to the city. Tom is her patient, a reliable patient who is always on time, with a predisposition for Asperger's syndrome. One morning he doesn't turn up for his appointment. This Is unsettling to Dee; she has known Tom for twenty five years, from five days after he was born (one of her 'practice babies') - he has never been late or missed an appointment, except when he was an infant, when he was under the control of his unorganized and marijuana reliant mother, Skye.

The reason for the no show is that Tom is dead. According to the autopsy report cause of death was due to an acute asthma attack, that Dee doesn't believe due to Tom's obsessiveness of monitoring his health. She has a list of suspects and motives, including an ex-druggie stepfather with a past of violence, who helps look after his autistic brother with a possible eye on Tom's life insurance, a non-contactable girlfriend who claims that a man is watching her and the fertility doctor Adam whom Tom had been investigating hours before his death.

Gp turned detective with a close friend and Tom's previous employer Raj, they try to find a missing Leah and get to the bottom of their friends death.

I read this book in a day, I could not put it down. The storyline is well thought out and written excellently, the author did a great job creating the relationships of the people and their past. I have already made my fellow bookworm aware of it's release in the next few months and that putting this gripping murder thriller on their to read list!
