Lies Between Us is a complex novel, multi layered and full of twists and convincingly drawn characters, so much so that it is hard to believe this is actually a debut novel. Written in a three timeline narrative, past, recent past and present day, the story is told from the points of view of father John, ICU Nurse Maisie and Miller, a young child who takes the reader through his early years. The main elements of the story really belong to Miller and John, their stories contrasting but equally harrowing to read.

John's story is quite emotional, and it is in these scene's that Ronnie Turner's talent and passion for writing clearly shines. She has a beautiful narrative style, her descriptions of the action and emotion really evoking strong feelings in the reader. John is a husband and father and in the early scenes the love for his family shines through. It is only after his young daughter is abducted, that his life takes a turn for the worst and the emotions which were once happy, now turn dark and maudlin. Turner captures the despair in John's heart perfectly and it is hard to read some of the passages without being moved. There is a truly dark side to these narrative sections also as the truth about what may be happening to his daughter is revealed. Not in any gratuitous way, but just skirting over the events enough to paint a clear and disturbing image of what is happening.

Miller's story is much darker and yet in terms of the telling it is chillingly lacking in any real sense of the heart thumping tension that John's chapters reveal. Miller is a truly twisted character and Turner has managed to worm her way into the dark recesses of his mind as his story is told back to the reader in his own voice. Miller is a sociopath, no doubt about it, and the casual and calm way in which he recounts the past is far more disturbing than you can imagine. When you take into account his age, the clinical detachment of his actions and the way in which he so simply manipulates the people around him, it will make your skin crawl.

Now, as I said earlier, this is a complex novel, and for that reason I think there is a good chance the story, the ending in particular, will divide readers. The threads of the story, woven very carefully thus far to deny the reader an early glimpse of the final picture, are drawn together, but for some I think the final reveal may leave them confused and possibly a touch unsatisfied. I had an inkling of what was happening early on in the novel, and the final reveal did confirm my suspicions but not in the way I was expecting. It is very difficult to say why without giving too much away, but I think that perhaps the ending could have been a little clearer. I have seen similar ideas or twists played out in other books, including a big hitter from last year, and audience reviews were heavily polarised as a result. I am still unsure how I feel about it myself but I do think it was potentially a little too confusing.

This brings me to Maisie's chapters. There is a clear link back to the main story of John and Miller, but you will have to wait a long time to see it. Again, I kind of guessed how the stories merged very early on, but certain elements of it added to the confusion of the ending, and Maisie's own personal story seemed a little superfluous, taking the focus away from the main drama. It did serve to emphasise the bond between an ICU nurse and their patients, and the way Maisie watched and commentated on the different moods and actions of family and friends of her patient, Tim, were very well observed by the author. I think I know what certain elements of this part of the story were meant to suggest, but it wasn't necessarily explained by the author and Maisie's own life story, as sad and emotional as it was, seemed to slow the action. It was very well written and I felt the emotional pain of Maisie seep from the page, but I just don't know that it was necessary.

All that in mind, this was a very strong debut from Ronnie Turner and she has amazing talent for creating emotion within her books, chilling the reader and developing both setting and character, with extremely keen observations of human nature, both good and bad. She has a beautiful way with prose, creating both stark and evocative imagery throughout, so much so that I am a little bit concerned about just how dark her mind is. She takes her readers right to the edge, tackling some very hard and occasionally taboo subjects without fear of glorification and does it well. One thing I know is that I am definitely intrigued and excited to see where she takes us next.

Aargh! This book has totally messed with me, head, heart and soul! I read it in a single day and barely took a breath from beginning to end. There, Ronnie Turner, you literally took my breath away with your writing. I cannot believe this is your debut novel, it is astounding.

This is a psychological thriller with a difference, and the difference is the standard of the writing. Really, I am kind of at a loss for words and, for anyone who reads my ramblings with any regularity, you will know this is a rarity. Just hold on a minute while I try and find some that adequately describe this book..

Okay, I’m going to have a go at summing up why this book is such a stand out read. Firstly, the plotting is so clever. I honestly had absolutely no idea how the thing slotted together until probably the final 20% of the book where I felt like I might have an inkling. It is really cleverly done. The story is told through three voices – John, Miller and Maisie. Miller’s voice is speaking from 24 years ago, John’s from the end of 2015 and Maisie’s from six months later. Each voice is individual and distinct and perfectly pitched for the character. The connection between the three time lines is not evident at all, so you have to hunt for clues to work it out and it turns out I was totally rubbish at this. I thought I had it sussed early on, then I totally changed my mind, then I turned out to be completely wrong anyway. The plot and writing were so convoluted, it was like being in one of those Hall of Mirrors at the fun fair – everything is twisted and distorted so much that you can’t work out what goes where and which way is up.

The characterisations are brilliant. Ronnie takes us right inside the minds and hearts of the characters so completely that we can FEEL what it is like to be them at each point. When one of these characters is a very twisted individual, this is quite disturbing and made me a little concerned as to what goes on in the dark recesses of Ronnie’s mind when she is not being utterly delightful on Twitter! People have hidden depths, I tell you. I was blown away by the range and understanding of emotion that she imbues the characters with, and how vividly these are brought to life in the book. I was living this story with them, tense stomach, heart in my mouth, pulse pounding at times. I could not put this book down.

On top of this, and what makes this book stand out for me from the herd, is the beauty of the prose. Really, some of the language and imagery used in the book is like poetry, and really quite unexpected in a book of this genre. It is really obvious that this is an author who loves to read and has absorbed and incorporated the best of the writing she has read over the years into her own work. This book is really accomplished – as an aspiring writer I am in awe and ever-so-slightly jealous of the talent on display here.

This book had me sighing with pleasure at the end, even as I let out the tense breath I had been holding for the previous four hours. What a treat.

I have been looking forward to reading and reviewing this book ever since Ronnie Turner announced her book deal and I wasn’t disappointed! Ronnie has written a twisty and intelligent psychological thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end.

I adore books where there are different threads that you know must be coming together at some point but you have no idea when, where or how. Here we meet Miller, a VERY disturbed boy who gave me goosebumps with everything he said and did. We also follow John who is living the perfect life until his daughter disappears. The other character we follow is Maisie, an ICU nurse who tends her patients with care and concern but is hiding secrets from her own past.

I do have to admit that I did find the first part of the book rather confusing, not from a character point of view, but I found myself having to really concentrate on the timelines and the complexity of the plot which, although clever, needed to be closely followed. I understood why Ronnie felt she had to play her cards so close to her chest due to the nature of her storyline and wanting to keep her readers guessing up until the very end but I did have to pay more attention than I would normally do with this genre. Thankfully as the plot unraveled things became clearer so do stick with it if you feel the same!

Ronnie Turner can certainly write! Her characterisation is sublime and I feel that’s where her talent really came to life within this novel. Miller especially was confidently brought alive for me with a brutal intensity that stuck in my mind long after I finished the book.

This was an ambitious debut for such a young writer but Ronnie carried it off in style and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next!

‘Will they ever learn the truth?’

Miller is a creepy, twisted and very strange individual. From a young age it is very evident that Miller is not well. His views on the world, his ability to control and his coldness make for a very chilling character. Ronnie Turner introduces us to Miller from a young age as we witness his ability to manipulate situations to suit his own agenda. He is obviously a young boy with issues, issues that are left unattended to, allowing him to further develop his influence over others.

John Graham has it all. His daughter Bonnie is the apple of his eye and with his wife, Jules, by his side, life couldn’t get any sweeter. John is a writer whose success has been slow to come. But now with his latest novel, doing well in the charts, John is happy. But one day all this changes for John, when Bonnie disappears from their home. Jules and John are distraught, desperate and very frightened. Who would do such a thing? Why would anyone take Bonnie? What do they want? With the police involved, horrifying images are sent to Jules and John, images of Bonnie. But on the back of each image, there is a message. This person is someone who knows them, someone who knows about John. Bonnie has been made to sign these images so they know she is still alive…but for how long?

Maisie Green is an ICU nurse. For her own private reasons, Maisie chose ICU as her specialty. With the relatives of loved ones in need of comfort at all times, Maisie is very capable of providing this care and her work with both patient and next of kin is very important to her. Maisie lives with Ben. They have a good life, a very busy working life but they always make time for each other and share their hopes and dreams for their future together. But Maisie has a secret that not even Ben knows and Maisie hides this, with guilt, as every moment passes. A patient is brought into Maisie’s ward, a married man, Tim, who had been attacked and discovered on a street unconscious. His wife Heidi is by his bedside and Maisie finds their situation very emotional. It’s playing on her mind and she finds herself closely observing Heidi. Maisie asks no questions but makes Heidi aware that she is there for her if she needs a friend, a shoulder….

What do all these people have in common? What connects their stories?

Ronnie Turner has written quite a complex story that moves swiftly between different timelines. As the stories of all these individuals weave their way in and out of the plot-line, it is very important, as a reader, that you keep your focus as you move through the story.

The dates are very central to Lies Between Us, as each chapter informs the reader of which decade/year an incident takes place. I have to admit I did get somewhat frustrated, but that could be down to my ‘very old’ eReader. I found it a little confusing but, I think for me, paperback format would immediately solve that issue.

Overall Lies Between Us is an impressive debut from a writer to watch. It gives us an insight into the rather deviant mind that Ronnie Turner possesses, a rather scary place indeed!!!!

I really, really wanted to like Lies Between Us by Ronnie Turner but was a little bit scared that I wouldn’t. Thankfully from about page five, I was sucked into the story and for the rest of the book, I was hooked.

The story is told from different points of view with each chapter told by one person. I have to admit that I struggle with multiple characters like that and when there are more than about three or four it takes me a while to get into it and remember who everyone is. I suspect that might be because of my dyslexia but I’m not sure. So although I was enjoying the book and the characters it did take me some time to put it all together.

Some of the chapters were set in the past and others in the current, we have no idea how these stories connect, but we know that they do.

I really liked Maisie, the intensive care nurse who gives everything to her patients and their families, she seemed really nice but there was a vulnerability to her, we knew that there was a sadness there but it takes a while for us to work out the cause.

Miller is a young boy who is, quite frankly, deeply disturbing. I quite enjoyed reading about him because I just knew that he would grow up to be a really evil man and the twisted part of me wanted to know what he was going to do.

And then there was John, a man who loves his wife but is besotted with his daughter Bonnie. John’s world falls apart when Bonnie goes missing, vanishing from their front room. John and his wife are tortured with photos of Bonnie hurt, the police have no idea where she is or who might have her, will they find her in time? I have to admit that at times when reading about Bonnie (and Miller), I wondered about the author and how she had managed to come up with some of it, let alone write about it and put her characters through it.

I have to say that I loved The Lies Between Us, it kept me guessing the whole way through and for a debut novel, it is incredibly accomplished. I cannot wait to read what Ronnie Turner writes next.

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ Digital for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
This is a very hard review to write as to be honest I didn't quite get it!
With three different viewpoints and past and present, there was a lot, (and I mean a lot!) of information to take on board.
To be fair, it took me about three weeks to read this book, and I ended up writing down all the characters so I could remember who was who. If I had read this book with more consistency it may have made more sense to me.
The story line was gripping, which is probably why I did battle to finish it,. Although I saw how the stories tied together in the end, I'm still confused.

Where do you start when you read a debut that you have high hopes for? From the moment I read the blurb to Ronnie Turner's book, I knew it would be right up my street! The blurb gives three key characters, each different in their own way and each with their own part to play in this twisted tale.
Miller is a sinister character.  From the start, he gave me the chills. As I read more of his chapters,  the more he made me feel uneasy #shudder.
Maisie is portrayed just as I'd like to imagine the perfect nurse in ICU. She's there caring for the patients who can't talk back. Having recently been in hospital it can be quite lonely as in my experience, nurses can be quite a chatty bunch!
As for John, my heart broke for him and Jules when Bonnie was taken. It's a parent's worst nightmare and it spirals deeper into a hell on earth for the couple.
From the start, I was constantly trying to work out the connection between these three characters. I was totally befuddled how these three distinct timelines would intertwine but when they did 🤯
Oh the climax 😱 I had to read it twice as I thought I'd missed something because I did not see that coming! Oh my! Ms Turner has written a blinder with that ending!
This is an impressive debut from Ronnie Turner. I could tell she's drawn on her love for reading to create a unique story which keeps you guessing to the end. I for one can not wait to see what Ms Turner pulls out of her imaginative hat for book 2!!  I applaud you Ronnie!

Lies Between Us is a tangled, in intriguing web of characters, emotions and secrets... nothing is quite as it seems in this enjoyable and complex plot which kept me turning page after page late into the night!

I am so impressed by Ronnie's writing - it manages to convey the desperation, the sadness, and the terrifying traits of various characters. I love the array of diverse characters and their problems, and the way they all slowly link together as times go on. I have to admit thatt times, I got a little confused between who is who and what their role is - if you want something simple and straightforward, look elsewhere until you're ready for a twisty, complex novel like this! I found myself having to go back a few times to re-read sections that I hadn't quite taken in, and try to work out who featured in that part, but nevertheless I enjoyed trying to unpick what was happening, and I loved seeing it all slowly come together in a satisfying ending.

I finished this novel with my mind still racing - like some of the the best stories, Lies Between Us will grab you firmly in its grasp and won't let you go until that very last page... and perhaps not even then! An entertaining, dark read which I'd never guess is a debut novel.

I love a book that simply blots the rest of the world from my thoughts, so all I am left with are the voices of the characters desperate to share their stories. Oh wow did they share, every what if, every how could this happen and every gruesome detail of a festering evil against innocence. This book took me to the brink of madness so much that I read it all again, when it really wowed me! I couldn’t believe what I had heard and seen, it was simply so powerful that it rocked my belief in people.
Ronnie Turner has written a debut novel that literally took chunks out of my soul, as I felt so utterly helpless at some of the scenes. The writing at times is very simply here but it creates the biggest impact. Scenes that didn’t need long drawn out descriptions only seconds because that was all it took to destroy so many lives. She makes you look right inside the eyes of pure innocence. The trust of a child has to be the purest thing on this planet. I think it will be a long time in the future before these memories fade.
The story tests every sort of relationship with family and friends, trust, forgiveness and the dynamics that goes with each of them. It has brilliant characters and heart breaking moments that crush you.
The chapters are headed with a date of either present day or in the past with a chunk of story told by one of three characters. It does take a little getting into but really keep going. This is a super debut that will knock your socks off at the end. A story I needed to keep track on because it was complex at times but definitely an author to watch out for in the future.

It is always a pleasure to see a fellow book blogger follow their dream and when Ronnie Turner announced that she had signed with HQ, Harper Collins, I was fighting for a chance to read her debut psychological thriller Lies Between Us - and what a debut it is!

Lies Between Us is a chilling, tense and calculated story of extreme obsession that will stay with you long after you’ve finished it. Ronnie Turner’s insightful reading as a blogger is evident here as the thriller is extremely well written and cleverly crafted. The plot is very ambitious for a debut author: told from 3 characters points of view at varying points in time with so many twists, turns, shocks and lies along the way. I did find the jumps between dates a bit confusing at first but it’s worth sticking with it as the story is superb.

The characterisation is accomplished, especially in Miller, the first character we meet. He is highly disturbing and really got under my skin. Some of the horrible activities he gets up to are unbearable to read and at one point, I wondered how far Ronnie Turner would go with his story. I even had to stop reading part way through and go back later, such was Miller’s effect. It was as though his every word jumped off of the page and played with my mind. He certainly had me looking over my shoulder. Even so, I found him the most intriguing character. His creepiness sets the tone for the entire book.

The second character we are introduced to is John. Married to Jules and a writer, we live with them through the hardest time of their lives when their daughter Bonnie goes missing. I wasn’t sure what to think of John and I even wondered if he was responsible for Bonnie’s disappearance. But that’s the skill in Ronnie Turner’s writing. She plays with your head. Just as you think you’ve worked it out, she takes you on a completely different path.

The third character is Maisie, a nurse in an ICU Department who has a few secrets of her own. It is interesting to see how she fits into the story.

All three character’s voices are so unique that I didn't need to know who's story I was reading when it was introduced, as I already knew.  I am not sure I've read a book where the voices are that distinct.

Lies Between Us is compelling, fast paced, and highly emotional from the beginning. The story's denouement is one that I certainly didn’t see coming and it fitted perfectly.

I thoroughly enjoyed this brilliant debut and I would highly recommend it. I am so looking forward to seeing what Ronnie Turner comes up with next.

I have to admit when I started reading this book I wasn’t quite sure what to think. The style of writing was different from what I’m used to but I soon adapted and from then on I was hooked. The story gets off to an intriguing start and slowly draws you in, feeding you titbits about the characters and their lives until, before you know it, the pages are almost turning themselves and you’ve lost all sense of time and place.

There are a few characters, and time periods, in this book and that could be confusing but to aid the reader the author has put the character name and date every time the character changes and that helps the story flow really well.

The characters are the story, they are so well created that you can almost feel their emotions. There is a lot of menace around, between one character and the storyline affecting another and it ramps up the tension. This is definitely one of those books that could keep you reading into the night if you’re not careful.

For a debut author it’s a fabulous read and from here I can only see the next and following books being better and better. This is definitely a name to watch!

Where do I start with Lies Between Us without giving too much away? There are three main stories, told in alternating chapters, by three different people, which are cleverly and intricately woven together. Miller is a young boy who is riddled with issues, mainly obsession and jealousy. Then there's John, happily married to Jules, their world crumbles when their young daughter is kidnapped from the family home. As if that's not bad enough, they receive worrying messages from the perpetrator which only adds to their horror. Last, but by no means least, there's Maisie, who as an ICU nurse is taking care of a patient who was attacked and left for dead. Despite having her own issues she becomes involved with the man's family and convinces herself that the sick man's wife knows more about the attack than she's letting on.

As much as I love a dual/multiple timeline novel, I have to admit that I was more than a little confused with this one for a while and even now after finishing it I'm not one hundred percent convinced that I genuinely got it. That said Lies Between Us is a cleverly thought out and complex thriller. I particularly enjoyed getting inside Miller's head - a sick individual who realises that by presenting himself to the world as a 'good boy' he is able to manipulate those around him, but one who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. I can only describe him as a truly heinous character, just the type I love to read about! Discovering how these three storylines were going to connect made for tense reading and the journey was disturbing in places. I would recommend this book to fans of psychological thrillers but allow time to fully dedicate yourself to the complex twists and turns of this solid debut novel. Ronnie Turner is definitely on my list of authors to watch out for!

You’ll already know that I don’t read that many psychological thrillers, and will admit I did find this one a little difficult to get a grasp on at the start. The structure is very ambitious – three alternating stories, in different timeframes – and it did take me a few chapters to realise that those dates in the chapter headings were important. But once I had my personal compass sorted out, I thoroughly enjoyed it – the intricate planning that went into this book must have been quite something to behold, and the handling of its complexity is quite stunning, particularly for a debut author.

The characterisation is really excellent: Miller a quite chilling and terrifying devil child; Maisie with her own secrets, caring for a patient in a coma after an attack; John and Jules struggling with their loss, their emotional response so wonderfully captured, and extremely moving. The shocks and surprises within the story are wonderfully done, and I really liked the way that the reader needs to keep their wits about them to catch the subtleties – there’s no dumbing down here, this is most definitely a book that will appeal to a reader who enjoys a bit of a challenge, and they most certainly won’t be disappointed.

The way the suspense is cranked up as the links are slowly and subtly revealed, the twists that you’ll never see coming – this is such clever writing, and a book I really enjoyed. I’m very much looking forward to seeing what Ronnie Turner does next…

Well, I'll just be over here picking my jaw up off the floor after reading this utterly enthralling and terrifying tale of obsession and lies.

Three different characters with three different lives and three different perspectives all collide at one point to impact greatly on each other. Maisie is an ICU nurse who gives her all to her patients, always trying to help and support them and their families as much as she can. John has the perfect life with a career and a wife he loves, a daughter he adores and a baby on the way, and a few close friends that make it all complete. But when his daughter disappears, it is the only beginning of a terrifying nightmare. And then there is Miller, a child who will chill you to the bone. How are these people connected? You will have to read the book to find out but I know you won't be disappointed.

The story alternates from different characters points of view which worked perfectly for me as it really opened up the characters for inspection and they were not found lacking. I tried to figure out where the story was going but I couldn't and I loved that! The tension is obvious from the beginning and it never waned or felt too pushed, and I read this book in one evening because I just had to know the truth.

Twisted, dark, and deeply disturbing, LIES BETWEEN US by Ronnie Turner is an epic debut and I cannot wait for more from this author who is set for stardom in this genre. But don't just take my word for it - buy the book now and discover it all for yourself!!

I’ve been eagerly anticipating Ronnie Turner’s debut novel Lies Between Us and I’m so happy to say that I absolutely loved it. I’m delighted to be sharing my review today for the blog tour.

Lies Between Us follows three characters: John, Miller and Maisie. John is a married father whose young daughter has gone missing and he’s desperate to find her. Miller is utterly creepy, the things we learn about his childhood behaviour were disturbing to read at times. Maisie is an ICU nurse who is caring for a man in a coma who’s been viciously assaulted. Something is linking these characters, but what is it?

This novel goes between the three main characters, and in three different timelines so it can seem a teeny bit confusing in the beginning but trust me if you go with it it has such a rewarding pay off! The tension is there from the beginning of the book, with John’s daughter going missing and it just continues to ramp up and up as you get further through the novel.

Miller was the most fascinating character for me, I was utterly unnerved by him and yet I wanted to know more about him. He is one of the creepiest characters I’ve read about in a novel and really got under my skin. It takes a deft hand to write a character as creepy as Miller and still have him be complex and believable throughout the entire novel so I applaud that. John was interesting to me too because he was so devoted to his daughter and desperately wanting to get her home safe, and yet I was never quite sure of him. I kept wondering if he was just too good to be true. I ended up being suspicious of just about everyone, and it felt like that came in a very natural way as Turner has written characters that felt so real to me. Maisie was the character that I connected with the least initially but as we get more of her back story I came to understand her a lot more.

I loved this novel, it’s very rare for me to be surprised by the reveals in a book but Ronnie Turner had me questioning everything that I thought I knew! I reached the stage of putting the book down for a minute just to try and work it all out, and I thought I had it and then something else happened and I was back to questioning it all. The moment where all begins to be revealed had my head spinning as suddenly it all began to slot into place. I loved that Turner kept me on my toes from start to finish!

Lies Between Us is a complex and compelling novel about obsession: it’s dark and twisty and impossible to put down! I already can’t wait to see what Ronnie Turner writes next! In the meantime I highly recommend Lies Between Us.

Lies Between Us is Ronnie Turner’s debut novel and what a complex and disturbing thriller it is.

Three main characters, three different timelines – which you are well advised to make a mental note of by the way. Miller – a monster of a child who, quite frankly, should have been drowned at birth. John, an author, finally having a good life with his wife and young daughter Bonnie until the unimaginable happens and Bonnie goes missing. And Maisie, an ICU nurse, caring for a comatose patient who has been viciously attacked whilst his family and friends sit and wait by his bedside. Maisie had her own secrets she was keeping quiet about.

Lies, obsessions, deception and both mental and physical torture – all are a major part of the story. It must have been quite a feat for the author, keeping track of all the characters and the timelines – so kudos to her for pulling this all together to form a twisted and compelling read. I was kept wondering if, how or when the three characters would connect.

The pace and level of suspense was spot on. The characterisation was really well done – it was sometimes quite scary to have such an insight into the minds of such disturbed people, neither does the author shrink away from writing about unpleasant subjects; some events I found quite difficult to read, albeit that it was shown in an understated way. As for poor Bonnie, it soon becomes clear from the messages that her parents are receiving that she has been targeted; but why? With the police struggling for evidence and with no reliable sightings or witnesses, it’s a race against time to find her abductor.

All the way through I was trying to work out who and why. A couple of times I thought I had it, but then – no – those damn timelines scuppered my theories. I have to put my hands up here and say that I am either extremely thick (quite likely!) or I missed some vital clue along the way because at the end I was completely confused. It would be fair to say that this is a challenging read and for those who really enjoy pitting their brains against an author’s twisted mind, you will have so much fun with this.

So, did I enjoy Lies Between Us? Despite my confusion, yes I did. Very much. Ronnie Turner, quite deservedly, should be so proud of her book baby and I look forward to reading more by this very talented author.

I am so lucky to be able to share with you today my review of our very own Ronnie Turner’s debut book! God this is such an exciting day! I just hope I can find some words for this immense book, otherwise, like normal it will just be a nonsensical brain dump!!

As you can see from the tour posters, that so many of us are excited about this book, and it is clear to see why when you open the book (or turn the kindle on) and read the opening pages. Now #sorrynotsorry this review will be so vague as I can’t ruin this for someone else as I would hate for it to be ruined for me.

We have a story of three people, all seemingly separate, three different timelines and a WTH is going on quite a lot throughout the book. I think I spent a lot of time putting the book down and saying ok, I think A is going to happen, pick it back up and read, put down ok scrub that out B is going to happen etc etc, all the while Ronnie is being “tricksy”!! (My daughters words). Until you near the end of the book can you reflect back on the links but that is all I will say.

Now you do have to pay attention in this book, as mentioned as you have three different voices and three different timelines. I love multiple POV’s and timelines because I love the discovery of how everything is linked, and boy I WAS NOT disappointed.

Miller, in 1984, a boy who is not completely all ok, his way of thinking and life, is just well…not normal. His actions and his thoughts are just so terrifying, and when reading his parts, I kept having a creepy kid’s sing-song voice rushing through me. He is one disturbed child. It is quite something to become eager to read chapters to do with Miller because as mentioned he is one ill child, yet the writing makes you want to read his chapters more than anyone else as you gravitate more to him, that is why sometimes I do love the uncomfortable read more than anything else. Putting you completely out of your comfort zone!

John, in 2015, has a loving wife, a gorgeous little girl Bonnie, and another baby on the way. Until one day Bonnie disappears. (God anything with missing children fills me with dread, nails biting time) He is trying to figure out where it all went wrong and why has his Bonnie has gone missing? Why would someone take her? What happened in his past?

Maisie, in 2016, a nurse in the ICU, watching over a family as the husband lies in a coma, but something does not sit right with her as she tends to the husband. A lot of people did not shine to her character as much, but there was something I found intriguing about her. I wanted to know her story and what made her unsettled.

I love how character-driven this book was, sometimes to me that is much more thrilling, learn about them and what makes somebody tick. Here they are so fleshed out, they could almost be real! This book captivates you entirely leaving you not able to do anything but read this book as it sucks you into the world of Miller, John and Maisie. Despite the differences with all these characters, I was heavily invested, flicking the pages to find out the truth, and how all these characters were connected and all I can say is WOAH! Nothing more, that is it.

This is such an amazing debut by Ronnie, and it is a strong start to her writing career. I really can’t wait to see what the future brings for her! It is going to be shining and bright.

I really wanted to like this book but the multiple timelines amongst the multiple characters made it too hard too follow and left me feeling frustrated and I lost all interest in the story. I was really intrigued by the synopsis but the delivery was lost on me.. Clearly this book is enjoyed by some readers; I am just not one of them.

LiesBetween Us..........a debut by Ronnie Turner......no way......but it is an di can’t believe how good this book was.
The book is told from three different characters from different timelines which I usually can’t abide but in this instance it worked and I did get a little confused at times it was a good kind of confusion.
This thriller has it all and for me didn’t disappoint, the characters are all different and I wanted to learn as much as I could about them as some of these characters are more than weird they were twisted to the hilt.
The connection between the three characters stays hidden until the end and I don’t think you could guess it if you had all week.
I would like to thank Netgalley and HQ Digital for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

I love novels with more than one narrative and Ronnie Turner spoiled me here with three viewpoints.
Miller's story follows one of fiction's most disturbing characters - the evil child. These chapters are truly chilling as we see inside the mind of a very damaged individual and witness the lengths he is prepared to go as his obsession grows over a number of years. It's a testament to Ronnie's writing that even though he perpetuates the most terrible acts, there were moments when I felt desperately sad for him. The chapters told from John's perspective are equally as unsettling but also absolutely heartbreaking. His life with Jules seemed to be idyllic; he's a successful author and they have a beautiful young daughter, Bonnie with another child on the way. Then Bonnie is kidnapped from their home and the only clues are the photos that are sent of her damaged body, each with a note on the back referring to his past. The mystery as to what happened to Bonnie is compelling but what really shines for me here is the sympathetic study of a man wracked with fear and guilt as he wonders what he possibly could have done to deserve such a punishment.
The third part of the novel is arguably the most slow-burning though no less intriguing. Maisie is an intensive care nurse looking after Tim who is in a vegetative state after being beaten up and left for dead in the street. Maisie becomes close to his wife, Heidi and as they share moments by his bedside, she slowly reveals her own touching story. She has been keeping her own secrets which is perhaps why she is perceptive enough to notice the emotions that others believe they are hiding.
We eventually learn just how the lives of these characters are linked and although I thought I'd figured things out, Ronnie still managed to surprise me with the final disclosures. Lies Between Us is a tense and enthralling thriller with three equally engaging storylines, all of which would have made superb books in their own right. However, writing one novel with the three narratives proves to be a masterstroke creating a book which is beautifully crafted, full of emotion and with a deftness of touch when it comes to the characterisation that belies this is a debut novel. Lies Between Us has everything I hope for in a thriller and I'm looking forward to Ronnie's next book with eager anticipation. Highly recommended.
