I just felt like there was too much going on in this story and at times it was difficult to keep up for me. I am sure it works for others.

It has been a few years since I read a book by Kiki Swinson because I felt her writing could use some improvement. Years later, she is still all over the place with her writing. She has interesting plots but it seems that she tries to do too much and on some plot lines I am left hanging as though she don't wrap them up. Misty Heiress is part of a dysfunctional family with an alcoholic mother, drug addicted cousin and bosses with ties to the mafia. Chaos breaks out when Jillian, the drug addicted cousin plots to rob the pharmacy where Misty works as a pharmacy tech.

While this is not a life-altering book, I continued reading out sheer desire to figure out why the practice of pharmacy was placed in such a shady light. As a pharmacist, I was a little ticked about that.
Yet, the tale piqued my curiosity. While the main character was slightly naïve, the story was quite dramatic and has an anticlimactic ending. Sure, it is readable and provided a few hours of entertainment. This is not Swinson's best work.

I must start this review by saying I have read previous books by the author and enjoyed them. But, not this one. The story line was a bit far fetched for me and the characters were not ones I could relate to. The book seemed to be all over the place at times. Not a bad read, but not a good one either. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book. Although I received the book in this manner, it did not effect my opinion of this book nor my review.

Normally, I love all Kiki Swanson's books. This book didn't hold my attention. The characters weren't significant and It took a long time to write this review.

Not a typical KiKi Swinson read. The characters and their shenanigans were not relatable. The book did not flow and felt a bit rushed.

The Black Market is an urban fiction novel by Kiki Swinson. The main character is pharmacy tech, Misty Heiress. Misty is completely surrounded by turmoil. Her alcoholic mother and her grandmother are embroiled in a long-standing feud. Her cousin, Jillian, is addicted to opioids and insists that Misty steal narcotics to feed growing her addiction. Terrell, Misty’s ex-boyfriend, is stalking her. Sanjay and Amir, her boss and his brother, are involved with the mafia, which places Misty in danger. To complete the chaos, Jillian has concocted a dangerous scheme to rob the pharmacy where Misty is employed.

Though generally well-written, The Black Market has some flaws. The characters aren’t fully developed, and the main character is totally irrational. The premise is solid, and the story held my interest from start to finish, but I felt the ending was too abrupt. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

My thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.

With Jillian in constant pain after surgery and her surgeon stopping her painkillers. Her cousin Misty who works at a pharmacy decides to steal some tablets for her whilst the owner of the pharmacy Sanjay isn't looking. Unbeknown to Misty, Sanjay and his brother Amir owe money to the mafia who want payment in drugs.
Sanjay goes missing, believed to be kidnapped or even dead, so Amir takes over the running of the store. He is ordering so many tablets to give to the mafia that the DEA become involved. They are aware of Misty stealing the tablets and threaten her with jail if she doesn't help them build a case against the mafia.
On the other hand, Jillian runs with a gang who need money so decide to steal the drugs from the pharmacy before the mafia can get them.
With a mother who is an alcoholic, her grandmother who favors Jillian over misty and her ex-boyfriend Terrell. Misty has a lot on her plate.
I was quite enjoying this book, then all of a sudden at 84% it stopped, midstory. I was left hanging, with questions unanswered.
Did they get the Members of the Mafia? What happened to Misty after her bath?
Who on earth was Jillian's boyfriend Edmund and what part did he play? We knew nothing about him throughout the book apart from being Jillian's boyfriend.
I was left completely confused and frustrated. This book is definitely not worth the £20.00 it is up for on Amazon and i don't recommend it.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity.

It's hard for me to believe this is a Kiki Swinson book. The characters weren't described, the story seemed rushed and didn't make alot of sense. Misty is a pharmacy tech and gets involved in some shady things due to her job. The shadiness snowballs until things turn unbelievably out of control. The ending took it from a three star down to a two.
