I received a copy of The Vampire's Masquerade - Ever Nights Chronicles by Kiersten Fay from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was intrigued by the summary and really wanted to like this novel, but the storyline could have been pulled together better and the characters developed more (less flat). It was a struggle to continue reading several times (even during the steamy moments).

Unfortunately, this book just missed the mark for me.

The author returns to her Creatures of Darkness/ Evernight Chronicles world where Vampires are loud and proud after a dreadful war that decimated the world. In fact although this book works as a standalone it does return readers to those we met in Keeping His Siren although this time it's very much a human heroine that steps up to claim her Vampire !
Kasima meets Lex on a night out that shows her just what a sleezebag her boyfriend Brian really is. I can understand a commitment phobia but taking Kasima to a club and saying let's each have a free pass and pick someone else up before we get too serious really should have woken up her self respect ! Luckily Kasima rather than sitting drowning her sorrows ends up next to a Vampire who is both charming and respectful. Lex is every adjective a girl dreams of tall, dark, sexy and sizzling hot ! Ok he doesn't want forever but with the chemistry they share Kasima would be crazy not to jump his bones but oddly it's a night that Lex seems to want to keep repeating or does he ?
Ok this was one very steamy read with Lex appearing more like a Knight in shining armour than a nasty blood sucker. I actually kept waiting for some suspense or action to happen and eventually realised that the author wasn't taking her readers down that route and instead it was all about Lex and Kasima learning to trust their feelings for each other. There was a surprise at the end with a twist I hadn't seen coming and I'm left hoping the author will return to this world soon.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
