Thanks to Netgalley for my copy.

Harriet is an anxious over-wrought mother married to Brian and they share a daughter Alice. Harriet's friend Charlotte is tasked with the care of Alice at the school fair along with her own children. Alice disappears and Harriet is distraught.

The story is told from dual perspective, Charlotte is inconsolable at the thought she was negligent and is responsible for the disappearance of the little girl. Harriet is frantic and desperate to find her daughter. Her husband Brian is a control freak and is persuasive in his belief that his wife is losing her mind. Who can the assigned family liaison officer believe?

This is a fast paced thriller with lots of twists and unreliable characters. The ending was a little disappointing hence four stars.

I find a lot of books slow to start and I want them to grab me on page one... this book is a grabber! A breathless ride of what-ifs. Easily read in one sitting. Very nice debut, fast paced, an edge-of-your-seat read.

Her One Mistake is a fascinating psychological thriller. Harriet, a woman with few friend it appears, asks her friend Charlotte to watch her daughter Alice at the park one day while Charlotte is there with her children and Harriet is running an errand. The kids are having fun but suddenly Charlotte realizes that Alice is nowhere to be seen. She retraces the kids' route but finds no trace of Alice, who has gone missing.

Harriet of course is traumatized by the disappearance of her daughter and the police question both mothers intensely. We follow the story from two perspectives, that of Charlotte and that of Harriet. Harriet maintains a diary which tricks us as much as enlightens us as the story unfolds.

What seems to be a straightforward story of a missing child, presumably abducted by a stranger, turns out instead to be a much more intricately plotted undertaking with many red herrings scattered along the way.

The ending comes as quite a surprise but yet on reflection is believable and satisfying.

This novel is extremely well written and once you start reading it you will be hard pressed to set it aside to pursue your everyday life. Highly recommended.

I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher via Net Galley.

Charlotte takes her three kids and Harriet’s daughter Alice to the school fair. Harriet has never left Alice with a babysitter ever before but she finally trusts Charlotte.
Charlotte loses sight of Alice for one second, and she disappears.

Every parent’s worst nightmare is to lose a child but what if that child wasn’t yours? Told in multiple POVs and a couple timelines, this story is well paced and quick moving. It really kicks into high gear in the second half and while I suspected some of it, I really liked watching it all unfold and all the little secrets come out.

Very well done and a fun, quick read. You will not want to put this one down.

HER ONE MISTAKE, the Canadian version of Now You See Her, a psychological thriller by Heidi Perks. Having loved her debut novel, “Beneath The Surface”, I couldn’t wait to start this one. I was not disappointed. The novel deals with lies, secrets, friendship, control and manipulation. Another winner that will keep you guessing until the very last page.

Her books include:
1)Beneath The Surface (Published Mar 24, 2016) Debut Novel
2)Her One Mistake -Canadian version-Now You See Her (To be Published Feb 5, 2019) originally published January 8th 2019 by Gallery Books
3)Come Back For Me-Expected publication July 25, 2019

It all started at the school fair…

Charlotte and Harriet were best friends. There was an attraction between the two women. They both had been raised by their moms. They both had lost their father at an early age. This was the first time Harriet had ever left her daughter with anyone…

“Charlotte was supposed to be looking after the children, and she swears she was. She only took her eyes off of them for one second. But when her three kids are all safe and sound at the school fair, and Alice, her best friend Harriet’s daughter, is nowhere to be found, Charlotte panics. Frantically searching everywhere, Charlotte knows she must find the courage to tell Harriet that her beloved only child is missing. And admit that she has only herself to blame.”

Harriet, is overcome by this terrible tragedy, and can no longer bring herself to speak to Charlotte again, much less trust her. Harriet is alone, in pain, and dealing with a controlling husband, Brian, who puts her down at every occasion.

Charlotte is going through her own guilt and pain for losing her best friend’s only daughter, Alice. She is separated from her husband, Tom, but has a busy life bringing up three children.

But who took Alice? Where is she? As the days go by, the police bear down on both women trying to piece together the puzzle of what happened to this little girl, dark secrets begin to surface—and Harriet discovers that confiding in Charlotte again may be the only thing that will reunite her with her daughter....

This was a very well-written character-driven emotional family drama book, that I highly recommend. The story is told from dual perspectives between Charlotte and Harriet in an alternating timeline of “Now” and “Before” the disappearance of Alice with some passages from Harriet’s diary. I look forward to reading more of Heidi Perks’s books.

Many thanks to Gallery Books via NetGalley for my digital copy.

3.5/5 Stars

Charlotte has agreed to take her 3 kids along with her best friends Harriet's daughter, Alice to the school fair one day. While at the fair, Charlotte looks away from the children for a few seconds and next thing she knows, Alice is missing.

The book starts off slowly but gets increasingly more suspenseful as the story progresses. The dual perspectives between Charlotte and Harriet and the alternating timelines between 'Before' and 'Now' create a mysterious undertone you're trying to figure out the entire time. I also really liked the excerpts from Harriet's diary and think that was a great addition to the story. The characters reactions were relateable and I couldn't imagine being in either of the characters shoes. You instantly sympathize with both of them and want things to work out for each. I liked the psychological aspect of this book as well and thought it was very well done!

Harriette has never left her daughter, Alice, with anyone before but needing to take a course she begrudgingly leaves her in the care of her friend Charlotte. Charlotte reassures her that Alice will be just fine. They along with Charlotte's own three children are going to go to the school carnival and Alice will have the time of her life. Once they get to the carnival the kids can't wait to go on the rides and as Charlotte's kids get off the ride, Alice doesn't. They frantically start looking and soon enough have to face the fact that Alice is missing. How can Harriette ever forgive Charlotte? How does Charlotte cope knowing she lost her friends daughter?

I quite liked this novel. I felt the characters were a bit one note but I also wanted the best for them. It was fast paced and the flip between Then and Now gave you enough questions without being to frustrating. There was always something off about Brian that I couldn't put my finger on. I didn't like him from the start. I liked Charlotte's story line of what happens when you lose someone else's child. How do you live knowing you kept your children perfectly fine but weren't paying enough attention to Alice. It's a mistake any of us could make which made it extremely relatable.

If I had a bone to pick with the book it would probably be the ending. It almost seemed like everything went to quick. Everything was tied up with a nice little bow and perhaps it needed to be a little messier.

Overall it was a good read and I'd definitely suggest it to friends.

Thank you NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for granting my wish.

This was a well woven story with lots of intrigue.
I was a bit let down by the ending.
I had hoped for more with how well the rest of the book came together.

Her One mistake by Heidi Perks is a compelling thriller that covers every parents worst nightmare: a child gone in the blink of an eye. The reader can't help but wonder about Charlotte's real involvement in the child's disappearance but then you start asking yourself questions about another character's weird behaviour. And then there's the mother, Harriet, who your heart can't help but to break as she becomes overly emotional following her daughter's disappearance. Although the author left hints about what happened, there were plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing until the end. This is definitely a book that kept me on the edge of my seat. It didn't leave one moment for the reader to get bored. I couldn't put it down.

The story alternates between the two main characters, Charlotte and Harriet, and goes back and forth before and after Alice's disappearance. It also includes some of Harriet's diary entries. This was a well-written and intense novel about manipulation, friendship and deceit through secrets that had me hooked from the very start. I look forward to reading more books from the author.

4.5 Stars

Her One Mistake by Heidi Perks is a novel that tests the limits of friendship. The characters are relatable and well-developed, and the writing keeps you guessing. It is one thriller that fans of the genre will want to add to their TBRs this winter.

How far are you willing to go for your friends? I really enjoyed the character of Charlotte. She is your typical busy mom, albeit a bit scatter brained. Charlotte is a divorced mom who loves her kids and is well-liked in the community. The friendship that Charlotte has with introverted and odd Harriet takes a turn for the worse after she loses Harriet’s daughter at a school carnival. Once the investigation starts, Charlotte is picked apart by the media and her friends.

The story is told from dual perspectives of Charlotte and Harriet, and alternates between the before and now. Perks creates a lot of suspense as the story flips back and forth. Once readers piece together what happened to Harriet’s daughter the day of the carnival, the pace of Her One Mistake takes off and becomes hard to set down.

If mysteries and thrillers are your cup of tea, Her One Mistake is a book that you will want to try. It is a story of friendship, and has interesting characters. This book took me completely by surprise and is full of twists to keep you on your toes.

I really enjoyed this book that had a little bit of a different twist than other psychological-thrillers.

Harriet and Charlotte are best friends who bond over their children. Harriet is a bit of a recluse and married mother of a three year old child named Alice. Charlotte is a busy, newly single mom of three who's a bit of a scatter brain. Charlotte encourages Harriet to do something for herself as she is always with Alice. Harriet decides to take a course in bookkeeping to better her family but has never left Alice in the care of anyone other than herself. She decides now is the time she can leave Alice with her best friend Charlotte for the day. Charlotte decides to take her three children and Alice to the school fair. It is here that Alice suddenly goes missing. She practically vanished into thin air. No one saw anything. So the story goes from there. What happened to Alice? Was Charlotte at fault? What will Harriet and her husband do? Who took the girl?

This was a very well written book. I enjoyed Heidi Perks style of writing. She kept me on my toes and wondering throughout the story. This was an emotional and suspenseful family drama that I would highly recommend for any psychological thriller fan.

This is a well written psychological thriller that has you guessing at every turn.
Harriet is a tightly wound mother who lets her only friend, Charlotte take her daughter to a fair.
Harriet’s worst fears come true as her daughter Alice goes missing and two weeks later there is still no sign of her. How can a child disappear in broad daylight? Who is to blame for this horrendous crime?
The story evolves quickly as secrets and lies come to the surface. But whom do you trust to tell the truth; the devoted mother, the adoring husband who doubts his wife’s mental stability, or the best friend who has her own secrets?
Can the Police find Alice in time? Can friendships and marriage survive the toll of abduction?
Who will end up paying the ultimate price?

Thank you to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Charlotte has finally talked Harriet into agreeing to let her watch Alice so that Harriet can go to a bookkeeping class. Charlotte takes Alice and her own three children to their school fair where everything falls apart with the disappearance of her best friend's daughter. She is torn apart by guilt knowing that Harriet has never let anyone watch her daughter before and when she finally does, the little girl vanishes into thin air.
When Harriet returns home later that afternoon, she finds her husband Brian and the police waiting in the front yard for her and she instantly knows something horrible has happened.
The storyline flashes back and forth from the time before the abduction and the events after Alice has disappeared. We are introduced to past events of Harriet and Brian's life together along with Harriet's friendship with Charlotte and someone is not telling the truth. Just when you think that you have figured out the character's motivations, another piece of information is added to the mix which points to other possibilities.

This was a great psychological suspense novel! The world ceased to exist as I lost myself inside the pages of this book! As I read I could see the words turning into a movie inside my head. In fact this is a movie I would love to see on the big screen. The characters came across as real live people that you could sympathize, love, hate and connect with. An emotional journey of heartbreak, deception, and guilt.
Don't miss out on reading this one!

4 stars! A heart-pounding, fast-paced, jaw-dropping novel!

Every parents’ worst nightmare – your child goes missing. This is what happens to Harriet when her best friend takes her daughter, Alice, for a playdate. A fun day at the school fair ends in devastation when Charlotte cannot find Alice and has to notify the police. Harriet cannot face Charlotte after what has happened. Charlotte’s life is upended as she is demonized by society causing the walls of her, at once, large social circle to close in on her. What happened to four-year-old Alice?

This book had my heart pounding out of my chest. The story unfolds through Harriet and Charlotte’s perspectives and I felt completely heart-broken for both sides. I put myself in each of their shoes and found I couldn’t decide which was worse. The author, Heidi Perks, did a fantastic job drawing me right into the story from page one. The writing was excellent and perfectly paced. The perspective changes complimented one another smooth and effectively. I look forward to reading more from Heidi Perks!

Every mother's worst fear comes to life, but not all is at it seems, as you progress in the story. Definitely a page turner you need to check out!

What a ride Heidi Perks takes us on in Her One Mistake! This thriller keeps you winding and turning as you navigate through the story of how little Alice could have disappeared at the school fair. My heart went out to Charlotte who was responsible for Alice that day. You can’t imagine losing a child and having to tell your friend that hers went missing on your watch.... a true nightmare! The author did a fabulous job of telling the story from the point of view of both Charlotte and Harriet. This is an excellent read!
