This is an interesting book - the illustrations are gorgeous, the layout of the words on the page is interesting and fun, but the prose itself is all a bit plain. There's an underlying charm, but there isn't a lot of zest, fun, or 'read aloud' delights for the little ones listening to the story.

A nice tale that perhaps lost something in translation? It's a gorgeous book, but just an okay story. I'm not sure how much me and Miss 3 will be re-reading this one, though it looks really lovely.

We love whales in our family and so this was a natural choice to want to preview. I read it with my three year old and we both thoroughly enjoyed the illustrations and story line. The illustrations are beautiful, whimsical, and colorful. I am going to read it again solo just to spend more time looking at the small details in the illustrations.

So beautiful, I read it twice. The story and the illustrations are just perfect companions to each other. I can’t wait to read this with my nephew.

This book's artwork was absolutely beautiful. Following Ida, and you guessed it, a whale on their midnight excursion through the sky.

What stood out most about this picture book was the free verse. It's a beautiful introduction to poetry, The format was unique, really slowing down the reader allowing us to savor every word choice, every word location, and every line. Beautifully done. Beautifully, beautifully done.

This is one that will be read many times over with my children.
