I'm one of the authors of this book, so I'm going to give it five stars :) If you need a laugh about some of the terrible parts of society, give it a read! It's short and somewhat sweet.

Ever dream of a mechanic not gaslighting you? Or a catcaller paying you a genuine compliment instead of degrading you? Then this is the book for you. Filled will heavily satirical vignettes describing fantastical and completely plausible scenes, if we did not live in a toxic patriarchy. Not of the Erotic genre at all, the vignettes are feminist comedic satire, but go ahead and hold it up in the subway just to make a few prudes blush.
The authors clearly enjoyed themselves when writing this slim collection of vignettes. I was little disappointed to learn that the book was not, in fact, short stories, but much shorter vignettes; short scenes of only a few lines. I still enjoyed it and felt very good about myself for reading it so quickly.

This book was a feminist short story collection that gave me a lot of laughs. These stories are built on hard spins away from society's obnoxious (and, at times, wholly discriminatory) practices.

The stories weren't that good. I felt no desire to reread any of them, which is a sign of merely adequate writing.

Hilarious. I loved this a lot. I am a feminist at heart and feel passionately about women’s issues.... but I also get tired of all the “DOWN W THE MAN” literature. This was so fun!

New Erotica For Feminists is one of those books that makes you laugh, while also making you seriously want to cry!!! Why are all these situations fantasies!??! Why can’t they be real?!?! Why can’t I get a damn promotion?!?! Uggh!

Anyway, NEFF was a wicked short read (it took me maybe an hour), but it was well worth it. I loved the way each fantasy was written, but I almost wish they had all been a little bit longer, especially the section and stories of re-imagining historical figures and classic literature as feminist af! Which were hilarious.

The book was cute and made me laugh out loud several times, but the best part was the last section, Ways to Make Our Fantasies a Reality. Which is the information we all need! I just wish it had provided a little more guidance. It’s pretty vague to say, create. Or volunteer. Assuming people are newbies, let’s give them as much guidance and hand-holding as we can, until they’re ready and confident to go forth in the world to spread the word as their badass, feminist af selves.

Smart, funny, somewhat infuriating, and a super quick read. I really enjoyed it. #arc #netgalley #neweroticaforfeminists

well this book had me laughing out loud at times, and looking like a crazy person while in public. I think I would have gotten a bit more out of a physical copy and having it to just skim through when I needed little pick me up's. To me it was like a poetry book, you read one when you need to relax. But this.. would be to giggle. Over all it was funny and something this world needs more of! Women being respected and valued in a way that is still far too rare.

NetGalley gifted this beauty of a book to me to read and give my unbiased opinion on...

EVERYONE READ THIS BOOK! Better yet, buy it. Buy it for yourself, your friends, your partner, your husband, and your two adorable dogs named Tina Spay and Amy Pawler!
This book was funny but also infuriating. I'm not sure I've ever been so mad while laughing.

Honestly, this is not what I thought it would be. I thought it was a fun anthology of erotica but it read like a school sexuality textbook

This is a collection of vignettes written with satirical feminist fantasies in mind. The writers intentionally left out any "character" descriptions so any reader could imagine themselves in these situation, which is something I found to be surprisingly considerate as not many writers think to do this. The writers also stress intersectionality in feminism—which, again, is not something many writers do, but it is very much appreciated!

I completely expected this to be a light, fun read—what I hadn't anticipated was just how fun this would be. It's rare that any book will produce a genuine laugh from me, and so I treasure any one that does. This was hilarious—as an avid reader, I particularly enjoyed the "New Literary Erotica for Feminists" section. This is definitely not to be taken too seriously, but rather is meant to be a fun and funny break from what is a very serious topic, and one it is often hard to find any humor in.

Anyone who considers themselves a feminist (or hey, anyone who doesn't) should pick up this witty read. It's super short as well—it took me about an hour to complete—and is well-worth that time.

A fast and funny look at a woman's ideal world.
For little things, like a equal pay being offered a job despite being pregnant not having strange delivery men trying to enter your house uninvited ("he makes no effort to come inside because that would be weird and alarming")... you know little things.
My favorite chapter was "New Literary Erotica for Women"
It had books I love, but with different endings due to equality,
The Yellow Wallpaper
The Scarlet Letter
And of course Romeo and Juliette

This book makes equality look so simple, so why is it so hard?

I guess I expected a lot more from this - they were just the generic "jokes" that I have seen before. A lot was written about consent, and that was great. It just wasn't as funny as I had hoped.

A quick and silly read, broken up into sections riffing on topics like pop culture, classic literature, and history. This book isn’t meant to change the world, but the final section including a list of “ways to make our fantasies a reality” is a nice touch to tie it all together.

Note: I received a free copy of New Erotica for Feminists: Satirical Fantasies of Love, Lust, and Equal Pay, an anthology by multiple authors, from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I work at a library and a fellow librarian received this book from Netgalley and absolutely loved it. And then the print version arrived and others started reading it too and I, in a rush to get to it myself because I kept hearing such good things, rushed over to Netgalley and saw that it was still available to request so I requested it even though I really didn't need to because I knew I'd get the library copy eventually.

But then I read it and realized that yes, I really had needed to get my hands on a copy as soon as possible.

New Erotica features short stories/blurbs all looking at what feminists may find erotic. Some are light-hearted and downright hilarious while others are thought provoking and all too real. They take certain situations and flip them. For example: imagine that instead of cat-calling at women walking down the street, men would engage in literary discussions with you instead because they've taken the time to notice the book you have tucked under your arm. Imagine that Adam and Eve didn't trust the talking snake whilst in the garden of Eden.

It was funny, it was cute, and sadly it is all too necessary because there are still people who don't understand that women want/need equal pay, equal representation, but still want to be able to have daydreams and fantasies and appreciate what we find physically attractive.

This was cute and would make a great funny gift. Got through it in about an hour. Overall, I loved its sense of humor and particularly the way it bent historical and literary events to be more feminist. However, I found it to be pretty white feministy and bland. While the authors indicate they left the language open so that anyone could fill themselves in regardless of gender identity or racial background, I found the content pretty prototypical for white feminist circles.

I appreciate the satire, showing in a humorous way the unrealistic expectations women face daily. I would have liked more length from many of the passages--they were just too dang short!

That said, I liked the bredth of the situations covered. My favorite passage inluded a shout-out to Aparna Nancherla, my favorite comedian.

As discussed with the publisher via email:

The format of the galley makes very hard reading the content. There is no coherence in the text, and it's just hard to tell when one "story" finishes and when the following one starts, there's no spacing between paragraphs and the lining just seems to be off here and there.

I'm very sorry, but I don't think I can go through the whole copy when I struggle following the text.

Hilarious. I had a lot of fun reading these short stories out loud to my friends. Very short book, and it was scrunched up on my kindle, but so funny.

This was hilariously funny and sadly all too necessary. I love the humor writing McSweeney's compiles and because of them, this book was on my radar. I bought this for our library after the first 5 pages. It's smart, funny, and shorter than I was ready for because of how much I enjoyed it.

Possibly my favorite part: There is a call to action in the end! The authors took the time to help us think about what we do next if we ground our teeth at the truths they skewered just pages before. A quick read with long lasting ideas disguised by sharp wit and spot on satire.
