Book Review
Title: One wedding required
Author: Megumi Toda
Genre: Manga
Rating: ****
Review: Amber was Finn’s secretary at work…and his fiancée at home! But her happy heart is slowly filling with anxiety. Ever since their engagement, he’s been pushing her away and telling her that he’s too busy with work. Finn is the talented CEO of a modelling agency, and models are constantly trying to seduce him. She worries that he’s not in love with her anymore… And just as Amber began to doubt him, she caught him in the embrace of a beautiful young model. From this synopsis One Wedding Required seems like your average romantic drama.
As both Amber and Finn have stressful jobs that require them to put in a lot of hours, they couple don’t spend that much time together, but Amber is happy with that as long as they spend the time, they do get together being happy. However, cracks are beginning to appear in the relationship and as Finn spends all his time surrounded by beautiful women it is clear to see that Amber is painfully insecure.
As time goes on Finn is becoming more and more withdrawn and often avoid talking about their relationship so Amber begins to think that he is having an affair. At a New Year’s eve party this is confirmed when Finn kisses the mother of one of his model and Amber is distraught. After moving in with her sister she doesn’t want to see Finn again until the woman he kissed comes to her sister’s home and announces that Finn is in the hospital.
Rushing to the hospital despite her anger Amber learns that Finn has been hiding an illness from her resulting in his strange behaviour. He has a condition that is affecting his muscles, a bit like MS and everything including the kiss was staged for Amber to break up with him to spare her from the burden of his care. Despite this Amber is loves Finn and decides no matter what happens she loves him, and they decide to get married, although it is revealed at the end that Finn overcame his illness and the couple lived happily in sickness and in health.

Review to be posted on all places mentioned in my profile in 2 days.

I received this manga from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

Only 2 more Harlequin manga to go, this one and a Christmas one. I still have a few lined up to be posted with reviews, so the Harlequin December party continues.

This one promised enough drama with a girl who is a secretary to a hot CEO, but also his fiancee. Instead of trusting him, she doubts him when he spends less time with her (due to his work I assume). Then she seems him in the embrace of a model (because guys can't hug other girls if they are engaged or in a relationship, at least so it seems from many a book).

The first panel, didn't really make me eager to read. See here: https://twitter.com/Mehsi_Hime/status/1076082935806201856 I am sorry, what happened to her face? Is this how the manga is going to be all the time? Oh, please, no.

Oh, admirable that she decided to live on her own at 16, and immediately decided to go for a top job. Yes, it was quite rude of Finn to say that to her, but he did offer her a job. Not the one she wanted, but instead a job much better fitted with her. So far the story sounds really good, but sadly... very sadly, I just didn't see the click after that. As soon as mister CEO comes home he is rude, mean, but he makes it all up with sex. Yeah, that is one way to a woman's heart *snorts*.

I don't get why she did that interview, she could have at least consulted with someone (and no, that doesn't need to be with her fiancee, that can also be done with a friend). And that she didn't tell her fiancee about it. It was quite an important interview and she knows how he feels about those interviews (I can imagine that he knows that interviews can be fun but also very eh and that journalists will twist your words if that means a better story).

Oh no, heaven's forbid a girl hugs your man. Oh no. Oh no. If one of them tries to seduce him they must all be doing it. *rolls her eyes*

Wow, I get that the plane crash is quite a shock, but you should really have gotten some presents way before that. You know your fiance is already feeling unhappy and insecure about your relationship, and then you don't even do this for her? Dang bro, no. Just no. Aww, but but, awww. I correct my words. Yes, he was dumb, but man that was so sweet of him what he did. He did notice she was feeling down. Yay! Um, maybe not yay, good. He noticed. *sighs* Again, never mind, correcting again. What a dick move. :|

*sighs* I am sorry, yes, Finn is a dick. But I am getting REEEEEEAAAAL tired of our MC and her constant behaviour. I get that this all sucks, but does she have to go on and on and on and on and on about it. Just grab him, talk to him, make him talk, but don't walk around with this all the time. I don't want this anymore. My sympathy for her case is over.

And really, this ending is just so dumb, what a pile of shit. I don't even have words right now for it. *throws a table*

Sorry for my language, but fuck this book. Fuck it so much. What a pile of drivel. Bah. I had expected some good explanation, instead we get some whiny sob story. Bro, you are 30 or 40, why did you act like a freaking 10-year old. Sjeesh. :|

And sorry, but the art (see my twitter for a few examples) bordered on OK to OMG no.

So I am out. Not recommended by me. Nope.

This is really different to the other manga romances I have read because the couple are established.

The challenge for them is planning their wedding and starting their happy ending. Finn runs a model company and Amber is his fiancee as well as his secretary but all is not well between the two of them. Finn is working long exhausting hours and they don't seem to talk to each other. They haven't started wedding planning and Amber is beginning to suspect that Finn doesn't want her any more.

Things continue until they reach crisis point and then the story takes us to the resolution and we find out what has really been happening. It is a nice enough story but it wasn't for me. I found myself getting impatient with all the self doubt and insecurity.

The drawings are fab as usual Copy provided by Harlequinn in exchange for an unbiased review.

📚I received an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) from NetGalley and Harlequin/SB Creative as the publisher in exchange for an honest review📚

Book title : One Wedding Required

Author : Sharon Kendrick; Illustrator : Megumi Toda

Release Date : 15 December 2018

Amber had a desire to become a model and she decided to enrol herself to Finn’s agency. She later ended up as Finn secretary at work and a girlfriend at home. She was living in the cloud thinking that Finn was the one after he gave her a ring. As no secret lasts forever, Amber accidentally told the reporters that they were engaged to be married. Finn was mad and started to get colder and stopped paying her an intimate attention. They later would have to attend a party together where Finn kissed Brigitta. Ah, poor Amber, heartbreaking, she decided to leave Finn without hearing any explanation. She then hid herself. In the end, it was Brigitta who told Amber what happened to Finn and played cupid for them.

I have read the novel version tho and it was not really interesting as the manga-style. I do not know why, but I think it is probably because the manga version provides me with cute illustration. And it is surely helps me to understand the plot line better.

Things started as nothing unusual - boss/secretary romance and fiance thing. I love reads where secrets play a most important role. Good plot and twist - one scene made e so so angry! Why!? But nothing will go without it's impact.

Another one of my favorite plot: the inexplicable farwell with a good, but later and eventually, explanation...

Un'altra delle mie trame preferite: l'addio da parte del personaggio maschile, che peró ha un'ottima e valida spiegazione che arriva solo all fine....

THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!

This started out as quite a dull story of boss-secretary relationship in a fashion agency with the guy eventually turning to his old habits with all the models he is always surrounded by... But I could not see the twist coming and the story took a whole different turn and meaning. If you are curious you are right to be, but don't ask me to spoil the ending for you, you'll have to read it yourself...
