Limitless is a book about the opposite of 'leaning in' i.e. instead of being bold and assertive all the time, try being in consonance. Who you are and what you do should not be at odds with each other. The book focuses on the four aspects of consonance i.e. calling, connection, contribution and control. The book talks about each of these aspects in detail along with many examples of people who have applied these concepts in their lives. The author also shared a few other concepts of work life that resonated with me. The author was authentic throughout the book. There are some books which are written because people like writing but this book isn't one of them, this book is a must read for people at various stages of their careers just to see what else is out there. I received a free copy of the book from Netgalley. |
An interesting take on finding purpose and fulfillment in your work. The author uses her personal experiences to help readers who may be dissatisfied in their jobs discover new paths. |
This book is enough to motivate me to continue designing the life that I want to live. It gave me enough motivation to ignore the naysayers. It opened my eyes to more possibilities. It taught me to think without limits. I am my own limit. |
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It really made me think about not only what direction I’d like to take in life, but why. I couldn’t relate on a personal level to the stories that were told, because, I’m not, nor have I ever worked in a government and/or non profit job – but I still appreciate Laura Gassner Otting’s voice in describing how to find your “why.” It’s an important life lesson that I think most people would benefit from. It’s fine if all you’d like to do is make money – that’s your why. Maybe your why is helping others in a more meaningful capacity. There are millions of reasons why you do something, but it’s crucial that you pinpoint it before you start, and keep that in front of you when things get rough. I would recommend this book to anyone struggling with their current career path. I think it is beneficial in a lot of different ways. (I've included a link for my review that will be posted on my site, but this link will not go live until the book has been officially published.) |
