Sheryl Browne never ceases to surprise me. I don’t know how she keeps coming up with these amazing plots and characters. I’ve enjoyed everything she’s written so far but I think The Second Wife tops them all.
Rebecca attends her best friend Nicole’s funeral. A gifted artist, Nicole has had a troubled past. An uncaring mother and bullying father, followed by a controlling and sadistic husband, it seemed at last she had found happiness with property developer Richard Gray. Why then did she take her own life?
The book is cleverly written from multi viewpoints – Rebecca, Nicole, then Richard and his daughter Livy. Moving from past to present, the story of Nicole’s fated marriage to Richard and Rebecca’s subsequent search for the truth unfolds. From the beginning Rebecca is curious. Because of her abusive background she knew her friend lacked self-confidence and yet meeting Richard it appeared Nicole had at last been able to put the past behind her. So what went wrong? Was Livy as destructive as her friend’s texts led her to believe, or was Nicole really on the edge of a mental breakdown and her fears down to pure imagining? Getting close to Richard she hopes to discover what really happened.
Sheryl carefully weaves the story , gradually teasing out the truth through the thoughts of the various characters . It’s a great read, one you won’t want to put down. I actually managed to complete the book over two days. I simply could not leave it alone - yes it was that good!

Rebecca only wanted to help out – to be kind. Richard seemed so alone after his wife, Nicole, died, and Rebecca wanted to make sure he knew he had someone to rely on. But now she’s in Nicole’s immaculate house. Drinking from her favourite crystal wine glass. Keeping shoes in her orderly closet. Comforting her sweet and grieving step-daughter. It feels like Rebecca is living another woman’s life.

And as she gets to know the neighbours, Rebecca hears stories that make her wonder: was free-spirited Nicole happy in this perfect life, or did she feel trapped? Did she feel, as Rebecca is beginning to, that something wasn’t quite right?

Another perfect read for me! I can't get enough of this genre and this one did not disappoint. The Second Wife was a dark and twisted Psychological Thriller and it leaves you craving more. I just couldn't put it down until I knew what was going on with Rebecca.

Thank to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced read in exchange for this review.

Rebecca's friend, Nicole, committed suicide. She's attending the funeral and soon finds herself connecting with the widower, Richard. She finds herself wondering if Nicole was happy or was she trapped?

Predictable. I found myself saying "Are you serious?" in a not so good way. Come on, Rebecca. You are smarter than that. Not my favorite. From the beginning, it felt ridiculous.

WOW! Grabbed me from the BIG bam in the beginning all the way to the last word! Twisted, twisty, dark, compulsive roller coaster of a story! I couldn’t put it down.
Read this book!! I’m not giving anything away because it’s too full of twists that should not be spoiled!!
5 stars!

Thank you #Netgalley, the author and publisher for my free arc in exchange for my honest review. I’ll be posting my review on Goodreads and Amazon too.

Riveting book, except sorry to say it just fell apart towards the end. I think author tried to accomplish too much, tried to tie all the ends together, but for me it bordered a bit in the ridiculous. However, still an entertaining enough read, hence the three stars.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this fabulous ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was so much better than her last book. Four lives intertwine Richard, Nicole, Rebecca and Olivia.... one or more of them is a sociopath. The story was so twisted and sometime you wonder if any one is innocent. Everyone has a past, but what happens when that past catches up to you? It was truly a great mystery; however, I don't think that the ending did the characters any justice for the good and bad.

What a fantastic psychological thriller. The plot is deliciously dark and the characters are intriguing. The twists in this book keep coming which makes it a great page turner.
Sheryl Browne is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors. A well deserved 5 stars.

Rebecca finally meets Richard, her best friend's husband at Nicole's funeral. Nicole was fun, caring and survived an abusive first marriage and was so happy to find love(real love) with Richard, the perfect man( according to Nicole). What then could have gone so horribly wrong that she felt her only option was to end her life? Rebecca might not have been there for Nicole before her death, but she is here now and determined to find out who is the cat and who is the mouse in this dark, disturbing, and twisted tale.
Chapters alternate between Rebecca, Nicole, Richard, and his daughter Olivia. We learn what led to Nicole's demise and what is happening now. The author wrote compelling characters that I was rooting for and some that I absolutely loathed. There was, of course, no way to bring Nicole back, but the truth, as well as all of the lies, are revealed.
This was a quick read as I was in 'page flipping mode' and I enjoyed the author's writing style. I will be looking out for her other books and watching to see what comes next.
I received a DRC from Bookouture through NetGalley.

Deliciously dark and cunningly compulsive this is a novel of manipulation, deceit and some very clever writing ensures that it seeps into every pore as you you are drawn into the out and out dangerous machinations, scheming and devious behaviour of some of the brilliantly portrayed evil characters. This really was a twisted book that I was loathe to put down when real life got in the way I detested some of the characters and that for me always is the sign of an excellent read ..so if you want a dark and twisted novel you have it here so please don’t miss it ....I loved and highly recommend it 4+ big fat stars !!
My thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Psychological suspense at its best. Who is good? Who isn’t? What happened? Do I really want to know? Secrets and more secrets waiting to be discovered.make for an excellent novel.

I did enjoy this on the whole, but not as much as I wanted to. I can’t put my finger on it, but it lacked something at times. It was a good read overall however.

WOW! Rebecca attends her best friend's funeral. Nicole (Rebecca's best friend) had committed suicide by drowning in a river. Although her husband had tried a number of times to save her, the river was just too fast...

Rebecca lives in France yet wants to relocate to the UK, she also finds Nicole's widowed (Richard) husband attractive. Yet, Rebecca is a bit more clever than Nicole and handles Olivia (Richard's daughter) brilliantly. (Olivia comes off as a devious spoiled brat in her early 20's).

Back and forth timelines catch up with each other until the present (and all of the past) are brought into the spotlight.

An incredibly well thought-out plot - well developed characters held my interest throughout!

A must read!

Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for a great suspense read

The Second Wife 12/20/18 rating : 5 Netgalley Review
Rebecca and Nicole swore to be best friends forever. But three years after they last met up, Rebecca receives a phone call from Nicole’s devoted husband, Richard. Nicole is dead, a tragic suicide. Drowned in a river close to her family home, Richard was the one who pulled her body from the water. Now he can’t even speak about what happened.

While Rebecca reels from the news, she reads her friend’s last letters to her and begins to wonder if she knew Nicole at all. What secrets was she keeping from all the people who knew and loved her?

As Rebecca gets closer and closer to Richard, things go too far and she begins to slip into Nicole’s old life – staying in her home, sleeping in her bed… But if she’s going to become the wife Nicole never was, can she keep herself safe?

My thoughts
5 stars all the way
as soon as i saw this and read the book synopsis I was like this reminds me of two other Netgalley books I've read this year and loved , and that they gave off the same vibe as this one and they was The Wife Between Us by The Wife Between Us
by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen and The Ex-Wife
by Jess Ryder, and i was so right , just like them it pulled me in and i was hooked , and not once did i think about putting it down, i had to keep reading and see what happened next, just like them is now one of my favorite ones to read and i want to own a copy of it, its also a book i would tell my friends about ,because they tens to like the same things i do, in fact i already have, can't wait to read more by this author , so if you like and loved The Wife Between Us and the Ex-Wife then you might want to check this one out as well, with that said I want to say thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for letting read and review The Second Wife and for helping me find other author that i like in change for my honest opinion.

They’re comparing suspense books The Girl on the Train and The Wife Between Us to The Second Wife. I don’t think there’s any comparison at all. This is.not a suspense novel just a sad story with an unlikeable plot and unredeemable characters.

WOW! What a great thriller. I have already ordered the author's other novels. I love books that alternate characters perspectives. This one had so many twists and turns. You honestly don't know what will come next.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Sheryl Browne has recently written 2 awesome Psychological thrillers ‘The Babysitter’ and ‘The Affair’ and I was genuinely excited to be reading and reviewing ‘The Second Wife’, I wondered what side the author would show us of her writing prowess in this genre....
I was not to be disappointed, all the usual ingredients are there....intrigue, drama, characters that leap out of the pages at you and also ones you love.......and hate! ( as you are meant to).....twists, turns and a wonderful plot...BUT this book is darker, the storyline is shocking yet real and I think some life experience is mingled with fiction to create this tale of deceit, sexual deviance and preying on the vunerable that really is a page turner, I read it in less than a day, I HAD to know what happened, to who and when!!!!
As always the writing style is clear and welcoming and draws you in in the authors special way and keeps you there throughout
Superb, one of those books makes you proud to be a reader
