Finding little books like this one, that go so in-depth about a basic product are so important when it comes to trying to live a healthier lifestyle and incorporate more natural products into your life versus chemicals and artificial colorants that are dangerous. What I specifically loved about this book is that it showcases the magic and power of baking soda, something that we all have in our kitchens and probably never think about. I had no idea how important this little box of white powder could be for a home and for the body. After reading this book, I have incorporated so many new things into my life that I read about here.

The Natural Apothecary: Baking Soda
By: Dr. Penny Stanway

So many different ways to use baking soda and so many helpful tips to improve yourself. The book reviews the importance of a healthy diet with a focus on how baking soda can help improve that. I enjoyed reading about how acidosis can be harmful to the body in multiple ways and how the proper use of baking soda can help patients. They review natural rememdies for things like headaches and acne to using baking soda for beauty enhancement and relaxing methods. The book was very well organized and have a good flow to it, from introducing baking soda to harmful effects and usage. My copy did not have any pictures but I’m assuming pictures will be in the final version. That will definitely add to the ease of reading the book and make it more grasping.

Another interesting book from a series of Natural Apothecary. This one is about Baking Soda (not to be mistaken for Baking Powder) and covers chapters that has information about baking soda and then talks onto "Baking Soda and Acid-Alkali Balance", "Natural Remedies for Heath", Natural Beauty Treatments" and lastly "Natural Cleaning Products." Each has information and recipes to prepare your own products and how it is effective for health and uses.
If one is interested in natural apothecary this is a very detailed book, straightforward and well written

What a revelation - I had no idea there were so many uses for baking soda. Once I’d compiled my to-do list of cleaning projects, I quickly realised that the teaspoon sized sachets available in my local supermarket were not going to be enough and ordered a 6kg tub online. Now to work….

Written in an accessible way, the dietary advice in this book is interesting and I’ll be incorporating some of that in my daily routine too.

I love all of Penny’s books. They are short and very informational. This book on Baking Soda uses is so informing. I buy baking soda by the bag. I have used it for years for cleaning and clothes washing and also include it in my toothpaste recipe. But what I didn’t know was all the health remedies.

In my house, bicarb is a staple in the cupboard, brought out to ease indigestion or to remove smells in the fridge (when my partner leaves half an onion or blue cheese in it!). I had no idea though of the wide range of uses that small tub has. From making a mixture that will clean everything from your washing machine to tea-stained mugs (a much greener product than shop bought cleaners), to addressing many different health issues, eg skin conditions, easing cold symptoms, it’s a fantastic resource for any household. The first chapter was a bit of a struggle as it’s very detailed (the author was a GP) but it was interesting to read about how important the alkali balance in our bodies is and how we can achieve a healthier body through diet and yes, you’ve guessed it, appropriate use of baking soda. I will definitely buy this book as it was a real eye opener on many different levels.

Incredible. What I really learned from this book was the importance of an alkaline body and how ph effects us. So, much information in such a small book. Greatly, informative and helpful

Another good resource for those looking for more natural remedies for cleaning and health. I've been cleaning with baking soda and vinegar for years and this book has given me more ideas for using baking soda.

Thank you to Nourish and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

I have been interested in natural remedies for a while now. I clean my house with vinegar and baking soda and have great results. When I saw this book I was immediately interested.

But it is not really reading material, it is more of an alphabetical handbook you can pick up when you are looking for a solution or recipes with baking soda. It is not a book to read through with some history or special insight. It is quite interesting though and I am sure to pick it up quite often!

These little ingredient-specific books are pretty bare bones, containing only some high-level scientific info on how/why these natural substances work for health, beauty and cleaning, and some general instructions on making a handful of things. If you're seriously into learning about natural wellness, you'll probably want a more in-depth or universal book; however, it would be handy, I guess, to think "oh I have a cough and a lemon on hand" and then see what you could figure out there.

Another great little book full of useful insights. I like to try natural remedies as we used them for a long time and they worked, this book shows you don’t always need pharmaceuticals. Broken down into chapters and then sub chapters to make it easier to break down. Helpful book.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
