I have a feeling I'm not the target audience for this book. At the beginning, it read like some YA fiction. I thought that the romance was a little naive (physical attraction more than anything else), but considered that it might be an adequate introduction for young teens looking to get into historical fiction. My mind changed when the content veered into the risque for one scene, and since I wasn't really on board with the characters before that, I definitely wasn't after that. Nothing about their relationship said "authentic." Instead, it was all just that good old unexplainable *spark* of feeling that MUST herald true love. I find that an unsatisfying narrative.
