It is wonderful to read a book about kids loving to read. The list of children's books is a valuable resource for parents and teacher's. Seeing Judy and her brother work together as a team to read the books is a great lesson on team work.

Title: Judy Moody Book Quiz Whiz
Series: Judy Moody
Author: Megan McDonald
Publisher: Candlewick Press
Release Date: September 10, 2019
Genre: Middle Grade | Fiction
Rating: 4 Stars

I have never read any Judy Moody books before. This was my first, and what a book it was. I absolutely adored the character. The author is able to convey a lot of emotions with her writing. You could feel the desperation these kids felt in trying to win their book competition. I loved that this book brought up not only fair competitions and comradery but love and passion for books.

The only thing I didn't like was the pace. I felt it was very quick.

I am reviewing a copy of Judy Moody, Book Quiz through Candlewick Press and Netgalley:

Judy Moody is determined to win the Book Quiz Blowout along with her brother Stink. Judy Moody and Stink are two of five of the Virginia Dare Bookworms and they’ve been reading up a storm to prepare for Saturday’s face-off against second- and third-grade readers from the next town.

Judy is trying a variety of tactics from hanging upside down like Pipi Long Stocking to teaching herself to speed read The Princess in Black, while Stink fashioned a cape of book trivia sticky notes to help him remember all the penguins in Mr. Popper’s Penguins. But when Judy, Stink and the rest of their teammates discover the other group has a fourth grader in it they all become nervous.

I give Judy Moody and the Book Quiz Whiz five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

4.5 stars. I haven't enjoyed a Judy or Stink Moody book so much in a long time. Delightful celebration of books and reading (although the emphasis is definitely on accumulating knowledge and winning rather than enjoying the books for their own sake). Lots of familiar titles for kids as well as some that could get readers to try something new. The final copy is supposed to have a full book list in the back.

One of my favorite things about this book is that Judy and Stink are teammates which means they are working together. Very little sibling angst in this book. The kids quiz each other to get ready for the big event, and Judy tries to help Stink when he gets "brain freeze" and butterflies of nervousness.

This is my favorite of the Judy Moody's so far. It's so perfect for a bookish kid. I can see kids going through the booklist at the back reading everything Judy and her friends did.

This was okay. I think it was a bit too childish, even for children. Cute, but I'm not crazy about it.

I will definitely be buying this book for some kiddos in my life and me too. Since I learned to read I have been a bookworm. Reading about kids loving to read in a book for kids makes my heart sing.

I learned there are some pretty cool kids books that I need to read. I’m happy that the final copy will list the books mentioned in the back. What a great reference for parents.

The Judy Moody series continues with another fantastic installment.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, Candlewick Press, through NetGalley. Any and all opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.

In typical Judy Moody fashion, they all get geared up for a big book quiz show. Judy starts trying all kinds of things to get the reading done in time, but instead just misses lots of details. It was a fun book, exciting and entertaining. Children will love the next "episode" in Judy's adventures.

I immediately liked a couple of things as I was reading this book. First, I always like to see a brother and sister working together on a project. And secondly, anyone who is an avid reader will like to see the references to some well known older books.

As you might have guessed by the title, Judy is about to test her knowledge and memory. The Virginia Dare Bookworms, a team consisting of Judy, her little brother Stink, and three others are hard at it. They are determined to win the Book Quiz Blowout that’s being held at the local bowling alley.

In preparation, the team has been reading books like crazy. But reading isn’t enough, they will have to remember the details of the stories. Judy Moody tries everything she can think of that might help. She even hangs upside down like Pippi Longstocking in order to learn to speed read. Stink has created a cape with sticky notes all over it to help him remember.

But one of the classmates who is acting as the reporter for this event brings the Bookworms some distressing information. After interviewing the opposing team she has learned that they have a fourth-grader on their side.

My, oh, my. Judy’s team is really nervous now. They are reading on the bus, in the evening, and attempting to read at the dinner table. Will they be up for the challenge?

Reynold’s illustrations are placed throughout the book, making it even more interesting for young readers. And for older readers, well, the books the teams are being quizzed on should bring memories and smiles.

My thanks to #CandlewickPress and #NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book. I appreciate being able to post my opinion.

What Concerned Me:
Nothing at all.

What I Liked Most:
Though it’s a wonderful story on its own, I like that subliminally (to most kids) it demonstrates how much fun reading is.

The story moved at a good pace and managed to hold my interest. And I loved the references to older books and the questions that were asked at the quiz. I even found myself trying to answer the quiz questions.

All and all, it’s a great chapter book!

When I was in 3rd grade, I was *the biggest* fan of Judy Moody. She is such a relatable main character, and I just loved following her on all her school, friend, and family adventures!

Fast forward nearly 10 years, when I’m scrolling on Netgalley and see that there is a new (and super-bookish!) Judy Moody book coming out. Even though I’m about 10 years too old for it, I just couldn’t resist clicking the “request” button.

Before I begin, I would just like to say thank you to Candlewick for approving me for an ARC. It’s too bad I’m no longer the same age as Judy, because I just know that nothing would’ve pleased 8 year old Julie more than getting to read a Judy Moody book before all her friends and classmates 😂

Anyways, this book was super-cute and laugh-out-loud adorable.

The storyline was great! I loved the variety of books mentioned, and especially loved seeing Judy and Stink having to work together as a team instead of competing against each other like they usually do. To me, this sends a really positive message to anyone with a current sibling rivalry (*cough* me *cough*).

And on a side note, it’s really funny actually (and a nod to Megan’s talent at writing) when you consider the fact that I haven’t read a Judy Moody book in many, many years and read like a gazillion books since, yet could still identify pretty much every character.

Also, according to a note in the eARC, the finished copy will include a master list of all the books mentioned, I can’t really comment on the book art itself (as the illustrations in the eARC were rough sketches) but am excited to see how they turn out in the final copy!

Overall, a quick and enjoyable read, and (quite possibly) my favorite book in the Judy Moody series.

Five tiddly-pom and piddly-dee stars for this new installment in the Judy Moody series. Judy and her brother Stink are on the Bookworm team together. Also on the team are Frank, Sophie and Judy's former arch nemesis -- Jessica Finch. Mr. Todd is still their beloved teacher and assists in asking the questions on quiz day. The book shows us their preparation for the big event as they dream of crushing their competition -- the Fake-Mustache Defenders. So many great books are mentioned --both old and new. A list of all books mentioned will be included at publishing time. Looking forward to seeing all the finished illustrations and rereading when this title comes to my library.

A big thank you to Candlewick Press and NetGalley for a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review,.

Judy Moody and Stink have become bookworms, along with some of their friends. They are going to win the first ever Book Quiz Blowout! As a team, they must read all the books on the list, so that they can beat the 2nd and 3rd graders from the next town over. The prize is money for their school library. The book is filled with funny learning tactics that only Judy and Stink could surmise. The characters are engaging and likable. Readers will enjoy finding new books to read and recognizing their favorites. Fans of Judy Moody and her brother, Stink will want to pick this one up.

Fans of Jude Moody and Stink are going to love this new story. There's lots of fun going on in their house with a race to read books and win a book quiz. I know many places that offer prizes for most books read by any given child or classroom, but I love the idea of a book quiz; I don't know if any schools or libraries offer them, but maybe they should. Loads of laughs and a great plot, as usual. Megan McDonald writes such wonderful stories! I've been recommending her stories for years to kids at our library. She has quite a fan base.
