Once again, Melissa Olson, has wrote a action packed adventure. I am so engrossed with the characters that I cannot wait until the next book.

I really enjoyed Boundary Broken and I liked seeing Lex in action - I really think the former solder and Boundary witch is a great character and this story had lots of things for her to do. With conspiracies in the background coming to light when Lex's attempt to repay a debt goes so wrong the story stays in motion the whole way through and the ending opens up a very interesting future for Lex and the Colorado supernaturals. Hopefully, we don't have to wait too long to see what happens next because the next book shifts back to Scarlett -though I am not complaining as she has some interesting things in store for her too. I have really have become a fan of Olson's Old World - of both the Scarlett and Lex books and all of the shorts.

ARC via Netgalley, this is an unpaid review and all opinions are my own.

I' seriously loved this book, I'm so glad we got more Lex and company. I didn't like waiting, but it was definitely worth waiting for and didn't disappoint.
This was a fast paced book that totally sucked me in.
A freaking awesome addition to the series, I can't wait for the next one!

Boundary Broken is an amazing urban fantasy read. The plot twists and turn were unexpected with a cast of characters that I’ve already come invested in. Olson binds the reader to her writing with realistic, but totally fictional, characters who have heartfelt emotions and true personal connections to each other.

Lex is an intelligent, kick but character with heart! This was one of those reads that you just didn’t want to end.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and these are my opinions alone.
I have been intrigued with this "Old World" for a few years now. Olson created this series as an offshoot of her original Scarlett Bernard/Disrupted Magic series. I think that her abilities to create something more in the very prolific genre of supernaturals is outstanding. Her capacity to expand on her unusual characters shows her a deft hand at this.

Allison, (Lex), Luther is a boundary witch, able, (among other things), to call or send wraiths and ghosts to the afterlife with her blood. Relatively new to this magic, Lex has just started to reach her potential Feared because of her blood magic, she is an outcast among the witch community.

Luther is working for the local Colorado Old World leader, cardinal vampire Maven, for both a job and to protect her family. A former military soldier with desert experience, she is asked by the Cheyenne werewolf alpha to help find a pack couple missing in a national park desert.

Political wheels are turning and enemies are gathering. Will the Colorado Old World ever be the same?

This series just keeps getting better and better. Although I must admit that I received this from the publisher as an ARC-I am going to be buying my own copy because I really want to support this author. I first started reading this series on a whim-I don't normally use my Kindle Unlimited (why? Mostly because I don't expect to find quality reads, but I am so glad I made an exception with this series.Thes books are quality reads).

This book jumps 2 years from the last book, so you need to get used to the fact that Charlie is now a toddler with a vocabulary! It was a little awkward for me at first, but I quickly got over the time jump. I don't know how to discuss the plot without giving away tons of spoilers (and I am really holding myself back from doing so!!!)

There are so many things going on and so many new people especially people that we have only met in passing in this book. An old enemy comes back, many people die or get hurt quite badly, the mystery is very convoluted but in a good way that really keeps you on your toes.

This was a very non-put-downable book filled with action and preying on some of our main characters worst fears and nightmares.

All in all, with the way things ended, I can't wait until book 5 comes out.

This book takes me back to where I first started with this Author - and proves that a series can be written without a fall in standards ..

Lex is beginning to wonder if Maven , the Vampire Queen , really needs her ………….. actual work has been in short supply lately . Even Quinn has been more reticent lately ………… is something going on ?.

All this is about to change …….. Lex had promised an alpha werewolf a 'favour' in exchange for his help in the past ……… he has come calling to take up his marker . Two of his wolves are missing - sent on an 'official' visit to the area - no sight or sound has been made since their arrival . Lexi , honour bound , agrees to follow the trail along with her friend Simon Pellar.
They soon find the bodies but it has all been a trap ……… the alpha werewolf goes missing himself on the journey home .
Who was the trap actually aimed at ?
What is going on ?
Who's life will be forfeit next ?
The Pellar family of witches are being held on lockdown ……… why ?

With the help of those she holds most dear Lex must find out who is behind all the events …….. the consequences will bring the Colorado Old World to its knees if she fails .
This book brings to life the politics and procedures of the Old World to life ……….. they can be a hinderance or of help in solving WHO and WHAT is behind the attacks .

This is yet another enjoyable book in the Boundary series by this Author and leaves room for more to come .
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

What is a boundary witch? A boundary witch can see ghosts and lay them to rest by using blood magic. It’s a little bit more involved than that, but you get the gist of things. I love this concept, and oh, the adventures to be had!

Boundary Broken is the 4th book in the Boundary Magic series. Of course, this is where I start in the series. I enjoyed this novel enough to buy the first book and begin my journey on catching up. I didn’t feel lost in the series. Melissa F. Olson carried me through this book, and I had no problem following along with current events. Although, I am intrigued about everyone’s history now.

I think my favorite aspect of the storyline was the paranormal politics. I didn’t feel overburden with politics. There was just enough there to give the storyline a solid base. There was a nice variety of paranormal people and plenty of suspense! The only con that I had was the monotone voice in which the story was told. As great as the storyline was, it didn’t grab me like it should have.

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book, so I could give an honest review.

Boundary Broken, Boundary Magic Book 4, Melissa F. Olson

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: General Fiction (adult) Sci-fi and Fantasy

I found the first book involving Lex and Quinn a couple of years back, and avidly devoured that trilogy, then went on to read everything else Melissa has written about the Old World.
This series and the sister one overlap with characters from each making cameos and being referenced in both. Its one of those series I love to reread, and in fact have recently just done that, working my way through all the books and novellas. I'm not certain if this is the start of a new trilogy, it certainly lays the seeds of a bigger story but this tale is complete in itself.

Its that same gripping writing as all the earlier reads, convincing me that witches and magic could be real, vampires and werewolves could exist.
Even in fantasy I have to be convinced that IF the supernatural world was real this scenario could happen, and Melissa does that for me every time.
There are no magical shortcuts, no solutions pulled from thin air but ones that are hard worn, take their toll on the characters and take me time to work out how things can be resolved. I'm usually struggling to find that answer until I reach it in the story – nothing her is predictable!

I love the mix of characters, Lex and Quin, Lex sister's voice, chiming in on occasion, silent – constrained by rules - on others. There's her brother in law John, father to Charlie, who's had to be brought in to the Old World secrets because of Charlie's abilities which make her a target.
Maven, vampire leader extraordinaire, she's an amazing character, I like her even if she is incredibly pragmatic at times. She's old, she hasn't got to that age without some hard decisions. In common with many vampires and werewolves she sees humans as unimportant, and Lex balances that and reminds her of how there are better ways than just killing ones who threaten Old World secrecy.
Then of course there's Simon, Lily and the other witches. They're the mainstay of this story but there are others from past stories and new ones to meet.
I really enjoyed meeting Tobias again, and seeing how he'd progressed from the sad life Lex – or maybe Scarlet - rescued him. I can remember him clearly, just not which book it was.... ;-)

Once more the story races along, events building to an incredible conclusion with little side plots happening and seeds being sown for what I hope are more books, further developments between the witches, werewolves and vampires. This and Melissa's other books aren't the usual supernatural light, fluff read, but more fully developed, real stories, events that feel genuine, and solutions that are at times hard to take. I love them.

Stars: five, another cracking read, another for the keeper files and I so hope there's more to come ;-)

This author is one of my favorite urban fantasy writers and her Boundary Magic series is my favorite of her series. There are vampires, werewolves, ghosts and witches in this world. Most of the human population does not know they exist. While each book can be read independently and is a complete story in itself, it is probably best to begin with the first book in the series.

The heroine, Lex, is a boundary witch, which means she has special abilities at the intersection of life and death. She can see and speak with ghosts and help them move on, can 'press' humans and vampires (mind control), and raise the dead. One of the most endearing qualities that Lex has is that she never really seems to appreciate how powerful she is. She works for Maven, the top witch of Colorado, whom she both fears and respects, in a security role (and other duties as required). Lex is ex-military and has many useful talents for someone who can't go out in the daytime.

When this book starts, Lex is helping two ghosts to cross over. She has drawn a circle on the highway, it's after midnight, and there's a witch friend of hers at each end of the road to stop any traffic. This is normal, everyday life for Lex. She has a steady love interest, a vampire who works for Maven also, but the romance is rarely a focus of the books.

So after laying the ghosts to rest, she is sitting in her small house with her boyfriend, the two witches who were helping with the ghosts, and her rescue dogs when the werewolves arrive. And there the action begins and it doesn't let up until the end. There is a lot of violence and some genuinely creepy scenes in this book.

I highly recommend the whole series. All are well written with complex plots, characters who could walk off the page, a little romance, friendship, and a whole lot of suspense. The Old World that exists side by side with the modern day world is a fascinating place to visit.

Netgalley provided me with an ARC in return for an honest review.

I really like this series. Lex is a boundary witch , she lives in Colorado under the protection of Cardinal Vampire Maven, and her boyfriend Quinn who is also a vampire.

One night 2 werewolves turn up at Lex's house begging for help because their Alpha has gone missing and they need her help to find him.

Lex has to navigate a truce with Maven to allow them into the state whilst they search, whilst also trying to foil another plot to kidnap her niece Charlie.

Another fantastic read from Melissa.

This is the first book I've read by Melissa F. Olson, and I loved it!. Boundary Broken is the fourth book in the series. It's unusual for me not to read the books in order, but I was intrigued by the blurb. So, I can confirm that it can be read as a stand-alone, although there are a couple of things that I didn't quite get. I'm considering getting the other books and start from the beginning. I loved how fast paced it is, the immersive plot and the intense build up. I could not put it down. In my opinion, it looks like it was made by an inexperienced graphic designer and didn't match the quality of the writing. So guys, don't judge a book by its cover!

Bear in mind that I didn’t read the first three books in the series, so there might be plenty of details (Easter eggs) that escaped my attention. Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading the book.

Lex is a boundary witch, which means that unlike regular witches she sees the ghosts of those who had violent deaths (if I understood correctly, only those leave behind ghosts, and there are several types of ghosts). By performing boundary magic, Lex helps the ghosts find the door to wherever souls go after death.

“There was boundary magic in my blood, and ghosts could somehow sense that. They didn’t move any closer, but their laughing faces went slack, and they turned their heads toward me, regarding me like a particularly sweet and tempting treat. [...] Still in the crouch, I turned in a circle, smearing the blood in a dark line that looked almost blue in the yellowish streetlights. [...] “Door,” I said out loud, concentrating as hard as I could on the image of a doorway.
Inside the circle, the pavement disappeared, replaced by a sort of swirling smoke that led… somewhere. I hadn’t opened a gate too, say, heaven or hell - that much I was pretty sure about. This was more of a neutral bridge to… wherever. Limbo, the gates of Saint Peter, Santa’s workshop. I didn’t know, and I wasn’t the least bit tempted to find out.”

Her peaceful life is disturbed when werewolves that saved her once come to her door to collect the favor she owed. A couple of werewolves from their pack went missing in the Colorado dunes. All they ask of her is to grant them safe passage in Boulder, Colorado (they weren’t allowed there, and I feel this was addressed in previous books). With Mavel’s approval (the vampire leader and her boss) she accompanies them to the dunes only to find them dead.

This is another triumph in Melissa's Old World. Lex's newest story will grab you from the first chapter and not let you go. I was shocked when the ending came - I hadn't realized I was through it so quickly, which is really the best kind of story to read. Though you can read any of Melissa's books as standalones because she always does a fantastic job of catching up new readers, I do recommend you at least read her other Boundary Magic books in order before you read this one. You will appreciate the connections, twists and ironies so much more. I can't wait for the next one!

After she finished with the second arc of Scarlett Bernard series, Melissa F. Olson returns to Boulder, Colorado, to give us, readers, the next arc of boundary witch extraordinaire, Allison “Lex” Luther.

The new trouble brewing in Colorado starts when two werewolves come into Lex's house, asking for her help to track down their missing pack members. Lex find the wolves killed - and soon old enemies seem to making new move to stir problem with the supernatural community of Colorado.

Melissa F. Olson has become one of my favorite authors in this genre, ever since I first read Scarlett in Dead Spots six years ago. This is another solid addition to Olson's book portfolio.

I admit that I love Lex and the Colorado gang, slightly better than Scarlett's books. Probably because Lex, being an ex-soldier, feels more level-headed, a genuine protector, compared to Scarlett, who in the beginning, is more of reluctant / passive heroine. I love Lex's relationship with her deceased sister, with her niece, as well as her witches friend.

Boundary Broken is clearly the beginning of something new on the horizon, with old players settling in, a couple of previous faces being killed, and new plan hatched by Maven, the vampire ruler of Colorado. I cannot say much without spoiling anything, because I believe this experience is better read than told. I, for one, cannot wait for the next book, and see how Lex adapt to the situation.

86 points, 4 ½ stars!

Wow, Boundary Broken was a great installment to this series. I've always liked Lex and her boyfriend, Quinn. This series was always better than the Scarlet Bernard ones. I like what Lex gets up to, I love how Quinn helps and supports her. Also I really like Lex's powers.

It has been a while since I read these books, nearly a year now, so I had forgotten a bit about the story. I'm actually surprised that Melissa F. Olson decided to continue on under this series name than make a new one, like she did for Scarlett. Luckily, this managed to remind me of everything I had forgotten over the course of the last year easily enough. It did a good job of it, even. However, I think new readers would be a little lost. This story takes place three years after the previous book's events, so there is quite a jump. However, a lot of references to prior events were brought up, but weren't really explained.

Actually, a lot of Boundary Broken is treading old ground. There are old allies that we team up with against old enemies who are playing off of the same playbooks as before. It is quite a repeat. The only reason I wasn't lost was because I had read the previous books before. If you haven't read them, and are looking to maybe jump in here, it would be a mistake. Yet for continuing readers, this new start to the series is great. It sets up the direction this series is going to take from now on very well. I'm looking forward to reading the rest in a way I wasn't before I read this.
Boundary Broken is fun because the characters are fun and the story is well laid out. It isn't just Lex and Quinn I enjoy, it is all of their friends and their Boss and Lex's family. They are all great people I enjoy having around. The prejudice the Old World has against each other, where every group hates and distrusts the other groups? That grew really old by the end of the book. I'm afraid there might be more of that throughout the rest of this arc of the series.

Overall, though, I really enjoyed reading this. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more in this series.

As usual, Melissa does it again! If you're NOT hooked on this series, you SHOULD be! Go back, read them all, then read this one again - she's just revving up!

I received this as a free arc for an honest review from Netgalley. I've read the previous books in this series, and this picks up a little after the previous book and begins with Lex laying ghosts to rest in the city as a side project. This novel still has a great mystery to solve and a returning big bad, and Lex does a lot of learning and growing in this one. Throughout the story, there's a lot going on across Otherworldly factions, and she questions her place in everything, but the end leaves her in a good place. I'm trying really hard not to spoil this one and it's definitely worth picking up, and now I can't wait for the rest. While you're waiting for it, I'd recommend jumping through the other series that play in this world- there's some crossover references in relation to the recent history of the Otherworld happenings that would help to know.

Thank you NetGalley and 47North for this arc.

Maybe I should have read the first 3 books of this series first. But I didn't and as a stand alone read for me, nothing really stood out about this book. The plot was pretty predictable and unoriginal. Stock heroine character, "Lex" a young witch tries to save her world and others finds she needs others to bail her out (repeatedly). But she's cute and loyal so that's okay...…… all is eventually forgiven. Oh, she also has a hot vampire boyfriend. I found none of the characters memorable at all. The pacing was okay, but I was easily able to put the book down to deal with life's details (laundry, dog-walking, etc.). I just didn't ever connect.

2.5 stars, rounded up.

I discovered Melissa F Olson last year through her Disrupted Magic series. I swiftly read all her other books, coming to the Boundary Witch ones last. They turned out to be my favourite. I love Lex as a character and the kinks in the world building have been fully worked out by now, making each new book a gripping and engaging read. This was a great addition to an enjoyable series.
