Laura’s mom helps run some vacation cottages. A large group of teenagers rents one of the cottages and become somewhat of a nuisance. Annie, one of the teenagers brings a brand new puppy, Henry, along on the vacation. Unfortunately, she doesn’t take very good care of Henry. Laura absolutely adores Henry and decides to help care for him since the teenagers are being neglectful. They form a bond.

The storyline was predictable and the writing seemed like fluff or filler to me. Not much substance in the content. I’m sure kids who love animals will love this series though. It would be a great summer read. I think 2-4th grade would be the target audience.

I received an ARC copy from net galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Some young dog lover is going to love this story! Poor little Henry the pup 's family is just too busy to care for him. In steps Laura, a dog lover with no dog. It's a great fit and kids 2nd-3rd to maybe 5th grade are going to love this story. Especially the dog lovers! Fun early chapter book.

This is an early chapter book for young readers. The star of the book is Henry, a King Charles Spaniel puppy. It is summer and dog-crazy Laura is at the beach with her mom. They manage a group of cottages and summer cabins. When a large rowdy group of college students arrive, they don't want Annie's puppy hanging around, so Laura offers to walk him and play with him. All is well, until he gets out of the yard and lost. When the kids are asked to leave due to complaints, Henry takes off when he becomes confused and scared with all the noise. Again Laura has to find him and she does not want to let him go. Annie realizes that when she goes back to school, she will not have time for Henry so gives him to Laura.

This is a cute story about a caring, dog-loving girl and an adorable puppy in desperate need of a friend. It is short and easy to read, with some cute, black & white illustrations, it would be perfect for young animal lovers. My grandson was rather fidgety while I read it to him, and it my be because of the length. The message of having the time to spend with a puppy or any pet, as well as patience and love is very important and we discussed that when we finished the book.

The chapter book has black and white drawings throughout that add to the story. This is especially helpful for children making the transition from quick reading books to chapter books. It has an easy style of storytelling that is easy to follow with delightful characters. Not too long to overwhelm young readers but also not too short either. A marvelous story that is perfect for dog lovers second grade and beyond.

Our kids love early reader chapter books and they really enjoyed the adventures and mischief of Henry the puppy in this new edition to the Pet Rescue Adventures series. The Seaside Puppy covered some great and important topics about pets and what it means to care for them properly. There was some sadness, disappointment, and problem-solving elements which helped make the book stronger and they especially were pleased with the happy ending for Laura and Henry. Thank you to NetGalley and Tiger Tales for a copy of this book.
