Consider a future where you aren't allowed to drive your own car. The government has mandated autonomous vehicles without manual overrides; the AI's reactions are faster and everyone is safer without the unpredictable human element. Statistics show that accident rates are incredibly low compared to the way they were.

You are no longer a driver, but a passenger.

But all is not rosy. Someone has gotten into the unhackable system and taken over several cars, apparently randomly, and the 8 targets have been informed they will die in a couple of hours. The vehicles in question are converging to share a mutual and spectacular end.

Who's doing this? And why? This novel will keep you guessing and some of the answers will be very surprising.

This book has a great concept and is very well executed. Intriguing characters interact in complex fashion, and the whole world is watching over social media.

This one will make you think.

I got to read an early copy, and the book will be published on August 27, 2019. Look for it!

Another incredible book by John Marrs! He is such a talented, creative and innovative writer- I can’t get enough of his books. Passengers is set in the not so distant future in a world full of driverless cars. All one needs to do is input their designation, sit back and enjoy. The cars are known for being safe, unable to be hacked into and reliable….until one day they aren’t. Eight passengers in driverless cars set off for their destinations only to discover their car’s operating system has been hacked into and they are now set on the same path where they will most likely be dead in 2 hrs and 30 mins. The hacker has set up cameras in each car; in a world where social media and news feeds are all over the internet everyone is watching the passengers every move. Meanwhile a jury that was meeting to decide whether previous deaths related to car accidents were the fault of the driverless cars or the people become caught up in the hackers plan as well. They must decide the fate of the 8 passengers. If only one could live, how do you choose? This book makes you think about your own values and morals. Each passenger is interviewed by one of the jury members- one minute you can find yourself rooting for a passenger as they plead for their life, the next you may despise them as the hacker shares a secret that each one is hiding. But is he telling the whole truth? Do we know the full story? This fast-paced thriller will keep you on your feet with its many twists and turns. It’s hard to put this one down! Thank you to Netgalley and Berkley Publishing Group for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Really loved the premise of the self driving cars. The first 75% of the book had me on the edge of my seat! I feel like the end was a little thin though but still a very enjoyable read!

You have mere minutes to decide who lives or dies based on the face you see on a video screen and the few words you're allowed to exchange. Social media users are clamoring to give their opinions. Is the government involved? Who is in control? Take a ride in a self-driving car through a book that will have you eagerly turning the pages and questioning the security of your own secrets and your privacy. Is it the future, or is it already here? You decide. Author John Marrs gives us much to think about and discuss. You'll be telling others about this book.

The Passengers by John Marrs. Since I have a mistrust of cruise control and the on star lady is downright creepy, not to mention the invasiveness of satellite tracking, etc; the premise of the book was nightmare territory for me. But what a story.......the ultimate action packed political, technological thriller with many twists and turns and a genuine "I didn't see that coming" ending. The characters were all well presented and totally reliable even if they were ultimately vile. It was hard to like most of the characters; the only one totally innocent was Oscar unless.....he had hidden motives the Hacker couldn't tap into . Thoroughly enjoyable and "unputdownable". This is my third book by Mr. Marrs and he has really outdone himself with THE PASSENGERS. Highly recommended.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
