The self confidence of Thaddeus is quite special as we read his thoughts on friends, dancing, wallflowers and marriage. Since he is just a ‘mister,’ Thad believes he has the advantage over others to be able to seek a love match for marriage. Although he has a bit money set aside, no one knows it. He does not live up to the standard he could. Thus, his being able to do as he pleases without matchmaking mommas looking his direction.
Our little heroine, Priscilla, makes herself a wallflower so no gentleman seeks her out for marriage. She, too, believes she has a choice to remain unwed so she can have her inheritance upon her 25th birthday as promised by her father. Her father the adventurer, along with his father. They both left Priscilla, her mother and her grandmother to seek said adventures. But, this leaves Priscilla feeling unloved, alone and abandoned by her father and grandfather, left to be raised by a somber grandmother. Priscilla’s mother died while Priscilla was young leaving her with the grandmother and dreams of her father and grandfather. Even the home in which she was raised was filled with their travels. Travels she was not invited to enjoy.
Thad seems to set his sights on Priscilla because he will not have anything to do with him. He thinks he sees ‘signs’ they should be together. His self-confidence is sure he needs to, at least, befriend Priscilla. Poor Thad begins to lose a bit of his confidence since Priscilla keeps sending him off, which makes him all the more endearing to the reader. You will love the way their friendship just kind of develops without a lot of work on either’s part. Both Priscilla and Thad begin to see there is a lot more to life than their ideal of marriage.
One of the secondary characters is the hilarious parrot, who keeps you laughing with the way he repeats statements he has heard. Then, you have an adorable kitten brought into the mix. In addition, Ms. Ridley include leads from the two previous books in the series. One of the things I love about Ms. Ridley is that she brings characters forward while keeping each book unique and interesting.
Thad is looking for his Princess Charming. He could settle with a decent wife, he could have had his pick of women from Almack's, but he is set on finding love not just a spouse.
Priscilla is hoping to evade any male advances, this will allow her to travel and become an explorer. She's a feisty wallflower by choice.
When both MCs meet they struggle, Thad because his charms don't seem to work on Priscilla, and Priscilla because Thad's charms work too well and she would rather be indifferent to him.
The banter between the two main characters, and several secondary characters we have met in other novels of the series, is witty and made me laugh out loud fairly often.
This is a historical romance novel that I'd describe as a historical romcom.
This one was sweet. Thaddeus Middleton is just a Mister. But he is part of the social world, and looking for his true love. Priscilla is avoiding love at all costs. She is ready to adventure, just like her father and grandfather. When she turns 25, she will receive her trust and be able to begin her own adventures. But Thaddeus feels a spark with Priscilla and thus ensues their journey to a HEA. Obstacles to overcome, a parrot, a kitten, and a rude awakening are all part of the fun.
I received an ARC of this book.
Thaddeus might not have a title, but he is every bit a gentleman. One Night of Passion, is a wonderful book that I will be telling all of my friends to read.
Thaddeus may be a gentleman without a title but he was a man with a heart who wanted to marry for love, he wanted the perfect match, nothing else will do for him. But that road was paved with disappointment. Pricillia had a choice to make and with the arrival of her father she made it without hesitation. A sweet and endearing read.
Untitled and unfettered, Thaddeus Middleton wants only one thing: a love match with a woman who's actually interested in him, rather than money and title. He's determined not to repeat his parents' mistakes in that regard and instead holds out for the ever elusive spark. He's not exactly sure what he wants in a wife, but knows he'll surely recognize her when he does finally meet her. Except when he at last finds a spark, it's with a woman who claims to not be interested in him at all, even if her kisses say otherwise.
Miss Priscilla Weatherby only has to hold out for a few more months, unwed and scandal-free, then she can claim her inheritance and be off on an adventure, where she knows her long-absent father and grandfather are surely waiting for her to join them. Her ever-growing attachment to Thad could threaten all of her plans and despite her increasing feelings, Priscilla is determined to have her freedom and no attachments and refuses to lose sight of her longtime goal, even if it may not be what she truly wants anymore.
These two are both desperate not to repeat the mistakes of their parents. Thad wants love, but he won't force himself on anyone who doesn't want him just as badly. Priscilla has been so single-mindedly focused on her goal of adventure and travel that she's been stagnating just waiting for her life to begin, never realizing that her happiness could be right in front of her, if only she can trust him not to leave as everyone else has.
Thad was hilarious and adorable and just wanted someone to choose him. Priscilla frustrated me with her naivete, but ultimately, just like Thad, she wanted someone who'd choose her and love her. When she finally realized that, it sealed my liking for her. This was a great little story with some deep insights about love and happiness. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I was thrilled to see Thaddeus Middleton get his own story. He wants to marry for love. He has two advantages over his friends: he has no title, and he isn't rich. He can truly marry for love, he just has to meet the right lady.
Pricsilla Weatherby will inherit a fortune on her 25th birthday. She just has to be active in society and not get married or be involved in scandal. She needs that money to go on her own adventures like her dad and grandfather.
I loved this journey to HEA, watching the couple getting to know each other and realizing you can create your own adventure. I definitely recommend On Night of Passion by Erica Ridley. I received an early copy from NetGalley and the publisher and this review is my own opinion.
#NetGalley #OneNightOfPassion
I am new to this series. It is book 3 in a new series but its #2 written by Erica Ridley. I usually love her stories but I did not love this book at all. Its a very origibal concept though its not what I want when I read a historical but it is well written and it gets high marks for originality.
My real issue was the plot and the two main characters. The plot is Thaddeus is a well to do nice guy who wants to fall in love rather badly. He has never had love and so he desires it badly. He wants to marry for love but he has no idea how to find the love of his life.
Priscilla is a wallflower of her own making. She is pretty beloved by the women because she helps them find matches but she wants to attend social events but she wants to fade into the walls and be overlooked. She has an inheritance if she never discusses it, looks like she is trying to find love, but is unmatched by her 25th birithday. Her dream is not love but adventure. She has been left behind by the men in her life and she wants to oin them for adventure. Thats her dream.
Her plan is going wonderfully until Thad finally sees her and becomes intrigued by her and thats when the problem with her plan begins because she likes him too. It was a unique plot and it is well writtend but its not a storyline I liked. Thats a personal preference and so it might be a great story for someone who wants a heroine that wants adventure over love.
One Night of Passion is the 3rd book in the new Wicked Dukes Club series, a joint project produced by Erica Ridley and Darcy Burke. One Night of Passion is Ridley’s work. It is an amazing story with layer upon layer of complexity. Ridley is a master at giving her characters depth and believability. She has outdone herself with this story. I loved the hero in this Thaddeus Middleton - sweet, cheerful, fun and kind hearted. “As if he felt the whisper of her breath upon his skin, Mr. Middleton abruptly lifted his head and turned in her direction. His gaze locked with hers, too far away to see the golden flecks in his dark brown eyes, but hot enough to warm her to her toes all the same.” I don’t know if Ridley is a psychiatrist as well as an author..but her insight into people and their reactions to their environment is spot on. Her stories peel back the human condition layer by layer - everyone’s longing to be loved and belong. Amazing story. I was gifted a copy of this book.
