I am a big fan of mystery and thriller books, but I think I'd never read a mystery graphic novel before. This one did not disappoint me and I am super happy I got a chance to discover it.
It is very rare to see a disabled character in a context which requires some action, but our heroine Lya shows that the standard representation of disabled characters as passive and/or useless can end today.
The mystery in itself is not that complicated (for now, we shall see in the next installments), but I think they did a great work with the characters who are quite well defined. I really love the dynamics between Lya and Antoine and maybe I ship them a little, but I am happy the focus is on the file to be found and not on the romance!
I also enjoyed the fact that the cause of her paralysis is not the accident in itself, but the lack of help, because it is really something that happens every day and should be exposed more often in such media.
I can't wait to see what happens next, I hope I won't have to wait for too long.

I’m still not really sure as to how someone should structure their review for a graphic novel but this is my attempt at doing so.

Through Lya’s Eyes is a graphic novel that follows Lya, a beautiful 21 year old young woman who had everything going for her until she was paralyzed from the waist down the day before her 17th birthday, when she was struck by a hit-and-run driver.

Ever since, Lya has been fighting to come to terms with her condition and rebuild her life. But what really drives her is her need to find whoever it was who left her for dead and obtain justice. Helping Lya in her quest is Antoine, her best friend who helps Lya through the journey of finding the culprit.

I really really really loved the art work drawn for the entire novel. The colours and the graphics that were used through the novel were very stunning which made for such a great experience as I read the novel. My only downside is that it was very short, which restricted any character development to occur or for the reader to attach to Lya, other than that I really enjoyed the graphic novel

I really loved this! The story really moved me forward and sold me with the mystery element of finding out what happened to Lya. I really liked the art as well. I wasn't expecting such a giant cliffhanger at the end, and am bummed to have to wait for the rest of the story, but really enjoyed this part.

Seeking the Truth, the first volume in Through Lya's eyes, follows Lya as she is finally in a position where she can find out the truth that has been haunting her ever since she was 17: Who was involved in the hit and run that left her paraplegic? And why aren't they paying for it?

The story starts with Lya's admission for an internship at the law firm that paid off her parents in return for their silence. Lya is determined to find out who is the person behind her accident and now, she can finally sneak around the firm and get some real answers. However, since she is in a wheelchair, things don't come easy for her and she ends up having to rely on her best friend, Antoine, and her new work colleague Adéle.

Unfortunately, this volume fell short of my expectations. The art was beautiful, especially the flashbacks and nightmares around Lya's accident, but I got bored with the dialogue really fast since, for such a short book, most of it felt wasted on triviality. Adding to this, the pace of the book felt awkward, rushing the parts I was enjoying and dragging on the ones I did not care about.

Although Lya's investigation requires her to put herself and her new job at risk, I really felt a lack of tension and I was never scared for the character - things turned out alright a little too easily for me. Ever heard of insta love? Well, here we have insta friendship and I really could've had a couple more pages making Adele's reactions and choices a little more believable.

All in all, I am still very excited about this premise and want to see where Lya's story goes. Also, the art style makes it so much more enjoyable! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a sad story that also contains cute and funny moments!

Through Lya's Eyes: Seeking the Truth is quite an interesting comic actually. Lya's life changed when just before turning seventeen she got into a car accident and her spinal cord broke so that she's trapped in a wheelchair. She learns that someone bought her parents' silence about the accident, since no one knows who did it - but she wants to find out of course. The driver left her on the road without calling the ambulance and Lya traces down the culprit to a law office. The idea is surely interesting, although it felt like the beginning lacks information and a lot. The rhythm is nice and the story rolls well and this is deliciously slow in a good way. The cliffhanger is the worst! I cannot wait for the sequel, since who does this??? Argh!

The art looks cute and the colors are reddish. In a way the color world is quite a contradiction to the atmosphere and gravity, but works quite well and is different. Through Lya's Eyes feels like a detective comic, but in a way I wouldn't see it as one. What bothers me slightly is that Lya and her friend don't look like they're under twenty, but older. I also hope there's going to be some romance, haha. It would suit this so well! This Seeking the Truth part is a great comic even with flaws and I hope the continuation will be great too.

This is an interesting story with fun drawings. Though it's short, it's very engaging and I wanted to know what happened to Lya as much as she did. It's sweet that her best friend was willing to help her, and her new coworker even got involved. It's also great to see a story with a main character with a disability and other diverse characters. I definitely want to read the next installment to see what happens next.

This book had me engaged and wondering what was going to happen. The storyline was interesting and the characters were likable. I can't wait to read more from this author.

A quick graphic novel read with pleasant, line-free art and charismatic character designs. (Clement is especially cute!) At times the placement of speech bubbles made it difficult to discern who was speaking and in what order to read. Also ends on a major cliffhanger.

So, I did like this one. The illustrations are really good and would like to se more of Cunha Justines work. The story wasn't what I expected. Not much happens and really feels like the beginning. When the book ended, that's where it felt like stuff was about to actually happen. But no, we'll just have to wait.

Not a very exciting story and the characters were a bit meh. I would have loved to gotten to know them a bit besides this whole mystery. What they like, who the are, like that. But, maybe we get that in coming books?

The illustrations are getting the bulk of the star rating, they are lovely and thus an extra star is given.

It is listed as adult and with the blurb, I thought it would be darker and more gripping, but it seemed like it is intended for a younger audience or flat out is a bit dull. It was good enough and short enough to read to the end but once there we get no ending. I love a good cliffhanger but I felt gypped.

I don't want to continue to book 2 having not enjoyed the writing of book 1, so I don't get book 1's ending. I doubt giving the name would be detrimental to book 2.

I’m all about off-beat mysteries lately, and I had high hopes that Through Lya’s Eyes would fit the bill. Excited, I wasted no time getting started.
Lya is hit by a car while in high school and left for dead on the side of the road. When she is found, doctors are able to save her life, but because it took over a day to find her, it is too late to repair her spine. Lya is paralyzed from the waist down. Lya is beginning to adapt to her new life, when she learns that her parents were paid off to not press charges against the person that hit her. With no other information to go on, Lya takes on an internship at the law firm that processed the pay off to her parents, and with her friend Antoine sets out to dig up the truth.
I loved this first volume of Through Lya’s Eyes. Lya and Antoine, along with Lya’s co-workers, are so wonderfully drawn out and fully formed, and the story is fully gripping. The art adds a great element to the story, as well, with the colors and line work managing to be both serious and more lighthearted when it needs to be.
The mystery of Through Lya’s Eyes is well-formed and deeply personal for Lya, and gives the plot gravitas. This is a fun story that balances a complex and exciting mystery, and it is easy to fall into the story and finish the first volume before you know it. I loved this title, and I can’t wait to see where the second volume takes us. Highly recommended.

I really liked it. It was an amazing beginning for something that promises to be a very interesting story. I read it in one sitting and now I want more. The art was beautiful, I liked the style. I was immediately drown to the cover the moment I saw it and the illustrations are gorgeous. The characters were nicely done and the relationships they develop are very natural. Lya especially was a great protagonist. I was very impressed by her story and her determination.
Also, can we talk about that CLIFFHANGER though? It was the right way to end the first volume but I can't wait to see what happens next, to follow Lya in her journey to find the truth.

'Through Lya's Eyes' is a mystery comic about a paraplegic girl which has a fair amount to recommend it, but ultimately feels like a bit of a dud. The heroine, Lya, is a young woman confined to a wheelchair after being knocked down in a hit and run accident. In an attempt to find out who the driver was, she takes a job at as an intern at a law firm which she believes she will find clues.
Lya is an engaging heroine and her disability was sensitively handled. The artwork is good too, especially in the flashbacks to the accident. The problem is that the story lacks any real tension. Lya's investigation requires her to take risks, but I never felt she was in any real danger. This being just part one of the story, it ends on a massive cliffhanger. It may be that the series going forward is more engaging,. but I'm afraid this instalment failed to grip me.

Lya is hit by a driver who then flees the scene. That is all she knows. Oh, and he may had a fancy lawyer pay her parents not to sue. And that fancy lawyer is who is at the law firm she is now an intern at.

So, she is trying to find out who did it, and why, and all those usual mysteries.

Oh, and she is in a wheelchair, and the files she wants are down a staircase.

So, yes, she has a bit of a problem on her hands, which she finds a novel way to solve.

Really, the only problem I have with this graphic novel is that it is the first book in the series, and it ends on a cliff hanger. So, saying that, the art is lovely.

This was a very quick read at under 100 pages. But it was very intriguing. Lya was hit by a car and paralyzed. It was a hit and run and Lya has never known who or what happened to the driver. She just knows that her parents got paid a large sum of money to drop any lawsuits. Lya needs to know for herself who this person is and begins working at the law firm to see if she can get her hands on the file. It is the first in a series, so it ends in a cliffhanger. It was very engaging!

Seeking the Truth is the first volume of a graphic novel Through Lya's Eyes. The graphic novel was created by Carbon in collaboration with an illustrator Justine Cunha. The plot of the novel revolves around a young girl Lya who after she suffered a terrible car accident is keen on finding the man who is responsible.
I would categorize this graphic novel somewhere between middle grade and young adult since it deals with a touchy subject but in a way very close to a younger reader. What drives the main character Lya is revenge, but the way it is portrayed is simplified and not so dark. Furthermore, one more thing I would give as an example of why it is middle grade is the speed at which friendship between Lya and her coworker was created.

I found the story interesting and I wasn't bored at all while reading it. The plot is fastpaced and the characters are as developed as one would expect in a novel of this reading level.

I would be a fool if I did not address the wonderful work Justine Cunha did illustrating this graphic novel! The style is amazing. Everything is cutesy, but still, you get the atmosphere and ambient that is presented to you.

This one just looked absolutely stunning, and after checking the blurb I knew I had to have this book.

What would you do if you had an accident and someone left you for dead and you find out that people are bought for their silence? Would you a) just shrug and try to live your life as much as it can even though things hurt? b) Hunt that person down and get some sweet sweet justice? c) Let someone else do it for you. Lya goes for option b. And I love that. I love it when someone doesn't give up after such an horrific event.

Since I am a bit tired I will write this review as I read. No spoilers of course, or I will hide them. I will try to be as clear but also as vague as possible about things happening, if that makes sense.

Dang that first page. Holy hell. What a start. And after that we are back to the now, with Lya in a wheelchair and about to go somewhere. *snorts* Mom, please, don't say break a leg to someone with no use of her legs. :P

It is quite sweet of Antoine to help out Lya, even though he is worried about her not telling her parents. Plus, I definitely need to mention this, Antoine is a hottie! Oh my!

So apparently her internship is just a ruse? Or at least it seems she has another agenda next to learning new things. Apparently someone important is working at the office, and I wonder what they have to do with the case.

I just adore Adèle, she looks adorable (and is totally my type) and I loved how sweet she was with Lya. Later we find out why she can act so normal around her, as we find out something about someone close to her.

Wow, Lya maybe you should just wait a bit longer before you start snooping? I get that you are very eager, but maybe familiarise yourself with the layout and the working schedules before you head out. But it seems that she understands after drooling over another hot intern. :P Though it seems that maybe she needs a new plan when she finds out that about the archives. Mm, how is she going to do that. I do have a hunch though.

The conversation that Antoine and Lya had at night was interesting, and we learn more why she thinks that her parents were paid off to shut up.

My hunch wasn't right, but I did like her plan. That was a pretty solid plan, and I just loved how distracted Adèle became when she saw Lya's friend. Yep, he is cute right? I would like to high five Adèle and form a fan club. :)
Oh noes, that is a shame, how will they handle this bump in the road? And why isn't x there when it should be there? Mmm, mysterious. Why are people hiding the truth from Lya, what is in that file that is apparently so important that people are getting paid to shut up and <spoiler> that the file is missing? Me thinks that it is a bigwig who drove Lya down. </spoiler>

Oh my! Adèle getting a much bigger role than I thought would be possible. What is she up to and why is she so invested in finding out about Lya, does she know about the file? Or does she just think Lya is being suspicious? Things escalate and while I wasn't too happy with how Adèle did things, I am glad with how things eventually came together. I hope that Adèle will be a good asset in breaking this case. I was already worried that she may turn to wrong side, so I am glad my cute girl is on the right side. *cheers*

Oh, Lya's name is actually Silyane? That is a gorgeous name.

Nooooooo, don't do this to me! Don't end it on a cliffhanger. *shakes her fist* Noooooo. Now I got to wait until the next volume appears for me to know what is in there. What will Lya find out. Arggghhh.

So we have reached the ending before I knew it and wow, this was just so good. The story is engaging, interesting, fun, contains some humour and tons of mystery. The art however... was pretty OK at times, but the author needs to learn how girls walk. Hint, not like that. That means I would have to break my hip. :| Not to mention some other poses that would work perfectly at the catwalk, but just look weird and odd on the workplace or in real life.
But all in all, I need more! I want to know what is in the file and what will happen next. Will Lya find the one who hit her and left her for dead?

First of all, I really liked the drawings. That's what drew me to this book in the first place: the cover is beautiful.
The story itself wasn't bad and I read it quickly, but I would have loved some more backstory. Considering there are more volumes coming up and this first volume it's only 60 pages long, I would've loved for a few more pages at the beginning. But it feels like the author wanted to get immediately into the plot. Maybe he will explore some more of Lya's backstory in the next volumes, but so far - we don't know anything about Lya's parents, for example. The story begins with Lya starting her internship when she moves in with her best friend Antoine, so her parents aren't really there. I wish we could've seen more of her with her parents, even before the accident.
The cliffhanger at the end was kind of mean but understandable.

Lya, a young teenager soon to be 17 years old, with dreams and a future ahead. All of that was somehow destroyed by a stranger who ran over her and leaving her there. Lya’s health was severely damage to the point of leaving her paralytic. To discover the identity of the person who left her in a wheelchair and find out the true, Lya started working at a famous law firm.

Throughout the comic, you can learn Lya's motives to work in the law firm. As I went forward in the comic, I was very interested to discover the truth with Lya. I liked the theme of the story and the drawings created by the author; However, I would have liked to know a little more of the backstory of other characters, such as Lya's parents and friends, know their personalities, how was their process to support her, etc.
