“King Unveiled” by Taralynn Moore was an emotional, gripping story. Such a great read! It swept me away. Highly recommend!

Actual rating 4.5 stars

I started off this book slightly annoyed thinking that it was just going to be another flimsy romance, filled with insta-love, without a plot or any interesting characters, and boy, was I wrong.

With my initial reaction of the beginning of this book, I didn't have high hopes for it, but the characters, the plot, the descriptions were all well-crafted and read beautifully.

Taralynn Moore, the author of King Unveiled, states in her Goodreads biography: "Her work often reflects a glossy and cinematic feel, with interwoven story lines, and hints of mystery."

There isn't a better way to express how this book read, it was so enriched with just the right amount of descriptions, that it was as if I was watching a movie unfold from the pages of the book. (Also, small side note, someone please make this book a movie. It would be excellent.)

There is a romantic love triangle in this book and a lot of kissing. It is what I would consider a slow-burn book, because it takes a LONG while to slowly start to uncover all of the layers of the plot (which is arguably, not necessarily a bad thing). If you aren't a fan of characters who can't make up their mind, then this book will more than likely annoy you, but it is entertaining to say the least (in my opinion).

I also really enjoyed the added element of science fiction - and the secrecy behind the King Company. I don't want to give away too many spoilers.

When the author, Taralynn Moore, was asked where she got the idea for King Unveiled, she said, "The story of King David of Israel and Jon, the son of King Saul, was my starting point for two men who were able to bond so strongly they could put the needs of their people above their own desire for power. Above their natural instincts of jealousy and competition. In my version of KING, instead of a throne, the two volley for the heart of Bria King and control of her grandfather's company."

This puts such an interesting twist on the story and I think it was expertly executed.

I am so excited for the sequel of this book King Abdication coming sometime fall of 2019!

So, when I requested this arc in netgalley (this review is a free honest opinion)I didn't realize the release date already passed, but I'm gonna review it anyways still since the next ones coming out in fall! King Unveiled was a strong 3.5/5 for me, mostly for character development and story growth.

So, Bria King is the granddaughter of a prominent multi billion dollar conglomerate's founding father, but all she wants is a semi normal life. Shes been dating Jon(whose dad owns 1/3 of the company), who always seems to be holding back, for two years to their parents approval (because business relationships). On a solo trip to the family resort she practically grew up on in Cabo with her grandparents, she meets David, who shes instantly into. He makes her heart go boom or whatever, and the instalove is strong here. They really connect and the dialogue and everything is amazing between them, but instalove nonetheless. Now, hold out with me here. There is an actual valid reason for the instalove, and it's pretty epic in my opinion.

Once she gets closer to David, a few darker elements are brought to the table, like mercenaries fighting the good fight, and family lies that go way deeper than arranged relationships and into the reason why theres a DNA helix on the front cover. But by the end the real question was, does she even have a choice?

Towards the middle there was some action and amazing romance all throughout, but what I loved the most was the character relationships. This one also has a strong love triangle, but it reminds me a lot of the Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. The bond between Jon and David is just so well written that I'm only a little annoyed at the back and forthness of this triangle. Not only that, but the connection that all three get to have is just beautiful.

So this wishy washy shit started to get old pretty quick since I had my mind made up pretty quickly on who I liked better to be with Bria. After that, it was a little tense and tedious, but so important to the character development. I also feel like it speaks more to human nature that way, because ya never really know what ya want or need and it's hard to make a concrete decision like who she'd rather be with. Still, I know a lot of people hate that, so fair warning for the slow burn Haha.

I went into this blind and am so glad I did! I was swept up in the story, wondering, just like Bria, what was truth and what was lies. This book stuck with me - even when I wasn't reading it I was thinking about it! It was SO GOOD!! I wouldn't be surprised if, after still not being able to stop thinking about it, I bump my rating up to 5 stars. I need more!!
