I read Take My Heart a while back, but had not done the review. I reread parts to refresh my memory.
This book didn't hold my attention very well. I can even put my finger on what it was exactly other than not holding my interest. Plus the sex scenes were awkward to read. I've read plenty of romances and several had blunt talk in them, but this was almost uncomfortable. Maybe trying too hard? Not sure.

I thought this would be a quick read, but I was so bored that I DNF at 29%. I tried to skim and got around to 60% and still nothing was going on.

I did encounter two sexy times in my skimming and for the first time in reading adult romance . . . I got embarrassed. Not because of what I read but because of how it was written. I give the author credit in using real words and not “quivering member,” but the scenes themselves were just . . . bland and trying too hard.

Ava was annoying and exceptionally naive. The only thing that made this book worthy was Aggie and her personality. Pretty sad when the lonely old lady was more interesting than anything else in the book.

I wanted to know Aggie’s story, but it wasn’t worth reading or even skimming. This might be perfect for readers who enjoy adult romance more than I do, but it just wasn’t for me unfortunately.

This book grabbed me from the first page and I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more by Ms. Sorel.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

After being arrested for a crime he didn’t commit, Bronson, a deeply handsome and seemingly dark young man with a painful history, embarks on a path of revenge. This revenge began by a plan to seduce the girlfriend, Ava, of the guy responsible for his incarceration. The plan takes a sharp turn when Bronson falls deeply in love with her and the passion quickly consumes the two.
As the story continues to unfold the question emerges, was Ava and Bronson brought together by a setup? Is there more to the story than conviction and retaliation? The answer becomes increasingly complicated and entangled with a dark history.

While the storyline was interesting, I found much of the romance language to be "eye-rollingly-worthy".

The way this book progressed had me thinking a lot of different things ! 😂 But the ending was still good, even if it wasn't what I expected.

Detailed review will be up soon !

Take My Heart by J. J. Sorel is the story of Ava and Bronson.
Bronson was serving a jail time for something he didn't do but he knows his 'brother' is the true person that set this up. So when he gets out he wants to find his real family and get revenge on his brother. Some of that revenge is the girl that is in his brother's life, Ava. But what starts out as a plan with her as the pawn starts to be the most important person to him.
Enjoyed their story.

Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was an intensely, sexually charged romance complete with a brooding, sexy bad boy. Ava is stuck in a bad relationship with Justin when she meets his adopted brother. Their sexual attraction is off the charts and once she breaks up with Justin they quickly move from sexual partners to carving names on trees and declaring endless love.
I'm not a fan of love at first sight and there wasn't enough angst to really hold my interest. But I must say the sex scenes were smoking hot! Worth the read .

I was intrigued by the description and the book itself didn't disappoint! The chemistry between the two main characters was believable and I was rooting for them very early on. I also enjoyed the mystery element to the story which was resolved very nicely at the end.

I would be keen to seek out other books by the author.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review the book in exchange for honest review.

Take My Heart by J. J. Sorely interested me because of the blurb. I felt it held promise for an interesting read. Our heroine, Ava, is apparently a sweet and classy heroine who’s dating a self-centered and wealthy lawyer, Justin. Together they attend a birthday party for Justin’s cousin and meet Justin’s adoptive brother Bronson. Bronson has a vendetta against Justin and craves revenge since Justin wrongfully framed him and got him thrown in prison for a year.

This was a story I felt I could get into but to be very honest I’m very glad I’m done reading it and can leave this convoluted story behind me.

Firstly, I don’t think the writing flowed well. Settings and positions became unclear as points of view changed. And timelines and tellings of historical events were inconsistent.
Secondly, I don’t think I’ve ever disliked a heroine so much. I couldn’t get pass her wish washy convictions, hypocrisy and self-righteousness. I didn’t think she earned any of the praise she continually received. She was also quite forgetful and I personally got annoyed having to have conversations repeated for her sake.
Bronson, could have been a cool character but I’m rarely a fan of head over heels love with no base or foundation. So I questioned his decision making skills in that department.
Aggie was my reprieve in this book as I’m partial to older snarky women with juicy stories to tell. I loved her. But I still couldn’t get beyond all of the unrealistic twists and turns and out of character decisions.

Ok,
So overall I did enjoy this book. It has a fair amount of mystery and of course a love story. My favorite character was Aggie and I wish we had more of her story. It was slow in spots and some storylines did not get tied up well but I enjoyed the story as a whole. Thank you to netgalley for the ARC.

"Take My Heart" by J. J. Sorel

My first time reading that author.

Really slow at first but then it gets better.
I liked it. Not my favorite book this year but a really good read once it gets more interesting.
Good hot story.

I did not finish. I only made it about a 1/4th of the way through before calling it quits. I just couldn't get into the story and it moved so slow.

Very slow to start and almost gave up at one point, my the time I got into it I think I’d lost interest. A shame because could have been good.
