I tried. I thought the writing engaging and the plot, involving multiple characters on multiple military fronts, kept me turning the pages. Very interesting. Unfortunately, the level of violence got to me--it is relentless. Like Historical Horror. And I couldn't finish the book. It's weird because I did think the writing was fantastic, the level of detail pitch-perfect. I'm sorry I can't finish it!
