Always enjoy a Sheryl Brown thriller and this was no exception, fast paced and really enjoyable.
Jason and Karla's marriage is on the brink, Karla's dad, Robert, has spent years trying to split the couple up for reasons unclear at the start, things finally come to a head when Jason all but loses his company and an unbelievable secret is revealed.I rate this one 4 stars.

Very silly, very unrelatable, but readable. I was desperate to get to the end to see where it was going! Bizarre plot

Sheryl Browne is excellent! I’ve never been disappointed by her work. A unique story with love able characters and an out of this world twist. Loved it!

I was psyched to read this book, given the comparison to Girl.on the Train. However, I didn’t see any similarity between the two books nor would I even classify this a thriller. I felt somewhat misled by the description.

When I read a psychological thriller, I anticipate tension, plot build up and either a solid mystery and/or unexpected reveal. This story had one out of three. There were some twists towards the very very end but it lacked both suspense and a gripping plot arc. Most of the plot focused on the breakdown of a marriage. There was very little thriller. It was like reading Kramer vs Kramer with a few surprises thrown in at the end for good measure. I was not a fan of the very ending.

The story is told through various alternating perspectives. I didn’t connect with any of the characters. I didn’t have a sense of what they were about or what made them relatable . As a result, I had an impossible time caring or feeling any emotions. I honestly couldn’t care less whether the characters stayed together or separated. And because that was 90% of the story, I was bored much of the time.

The reveals during the last 10% of the book were the most engaging parts. There was one surprise that I didn’t see coming. That was the highlight for me. In all, it was more domestic literary than thriller. I think with more character depth and a stronger mystery aspect, this could’ve been a fantastic read for me. I received an ARC from Netgalley and Bookouture in exchange for an honest review.

This was a good read to anyone that's married and wondering if it is still worth the effort. It shows the other side of marriage and the pitfalls that come with it. Recommended.

I honestly couldn't read this book. I had to put it down a few times and then just gave up on it. I couldn't connect with the characters and the story was so boring. It just took forever to get to the first twist. Which I really didn't care for. Half the book is just Jason refusing a loan and his wife looking through his phone and hating her dad. Maybe I'll give it another try someday but for now, I just don't have the interest in this one.

These people put the "fun" in dysfunctional, and I mean that in the most sarcastic way possible. There is not a likable person or a non-toxic relationship to be found within these pages. In the beginning, I was tempted to skim or even DNF, but I held strong. By the last 25%, I was so engrossed, that it was flying along as I held my breath. Yeah, the plot is a bit outlandish, but something kept me reading. When all was said and I done, I felt a little wrung out, watching our heroine spiral deeper and deeper out of control. She is surrounded by so many people who did her wrong and situations that she may not have created, but she certainly didn't do much to help herself. All in all, I enjoyed this one - and you will too if you are willing to see it through to the end.

A good read but not at all exceptional.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.

Karla and Jason have been married for 12 years and have two children. Jason’s business is in financial ruin but his father-in-law, Robert, is willing to give Jason a business loan. But at what cost? Robert has never liked Jason and will do anything to make him walk away.
This book is full of secrets, twists and turns! I enjoyed it but most of it was quite predictable. I wasn't thoroughly invested in any of the characters so it made it difficult to attach to the story.
Thanks to Sheryl Browne, Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

I have a hard time watching (reading) about kids who suffer due to the actions of adults, so I think that tainted this a little for me. It took me forever to read this, because I couldn't ever FULLY get into it, and I kept putting it down and reading other things. The story never really fully came together for me.... I'm sure this will find its audience, but I'm pretty sure that audience does not include me.

I am no longer interested in the content of this book. So, I'm DNF'ing this book for now. I may circle back around to this book one day.

A harrowing read watching a marriage unravel and the kids suffer. But it goes further back to her parents and the actions she is still suffering for!!!

Jason and Karla have been married for over 12 years and have 2 children. But currently, their marriage is on the brink of a collapse.
Jason’s business is in major financial trouble. The one man who can help him is his father-in-law, Robert, who is financially quite well off. However, despite Karla’s insistence, he does not want any favours from Robert, who spares no opportunity to insult him. There is no love lost between the two, as from the very outset, Robert did not want Jason to get married Karla.

But Jason is truly running out of options – he also has a partner and a few staff to whom he is answerable. Besides, their house is already mortgaged, and they do not have any other major savings.
When things seem like they have reached a point of no return, Jason succumbs to Karla’s insistence, swallows his pride and sets up a meeting with Robert in an attempt to salvage his business.
Their meeting ends up being a disaster – wherein Robert asks him to leave Karla and tells him a secret that will effectively ruin whatever remains of Jason and Karla’s marriage.

Told alternatively between four characters and their points of view (Karla, Jason and her parents Robert and Diana), this started off as a slow read, got repetitive at places; however, managed to pick-up pace in the end.
The story starts with Jason walking out on Karla and then takes us back through time in their lives to reveal the sequence of events leading up to the day.
Everyone has secrets – Diana is harbouring one for years, and plotting the right time to leave Robert, who is a very nasty man, with a history of being a womaniser. Karla cannot forget the untimely death of her sister, and considers herself guilty, whereas Jason is carrying the burden of what Robert has revealed to him.

This is a well-written story with complex family dynamics and manages to capture a lot of Karla’s angst and Diana’s vulnerability.
The twists in the end redeemed the slow start and repetitiveness in between.

3.5/5 for me

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Jason and Karla have been married for 12 years with two kids but Karla’s rich and controlling father , Robert never approved of him. Finally he is able to drive a wedge between them resulting in Jason packing his bags and moving out.The story then flashes back to the events leading up to this and soon one after the other the twists start coming along

The Marriage Trap by Sheryl Browne is a twisty domestic thriller where nothing is as it seems. Though an implausible story it is still a  tightly woven tale of tension, layered with  secrets and lies makes it an entertaining read

I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review

This is definitely more of a drama than a thriller. I enjoyed the read but not what I thought I was getting myself in for. An overbearing father and a marriage that is going through a hard time! Jason has never had the approval of his father in law and it has been a constant strain in their relationship. Things spiral out of control in their marriage and it all seems beyond repair. This was on ok read but not something I would rave about!. A bit too much happening within the storyline that may made me feel like I was reading the storyline of a daytime tv drama! #netgalley #themarriagetrap #sherylbrowne

I’ve loved Sheryl Browne’s other books, however I was left a tad disappointed with this one.
The story should be great, however I didn’t think it came together enough. I stuck with it and I’m glad I did as the ending was decent. I will continue to read her books, however this is definitely not one of my favourites.

I enjoyed this story, it was a bit different than I was expecting. It had a few parts that were tough to read, but really picked up towards the end of the book.

Excellent psychological thriller! It moved at a fast pace with twists and turns throughout! Well-developed characters and plot. Highly recommend!
