Emily and Drew, the main characters, have a super hot fling, without telling each other anything personal. It sounded like a great plot prior to reading, and it did not disappoint, I read this book in 2 days! |
Vacation fling pact to not talk about the real world goes bad. I give it 3.5 stars. Emily is a lawyer who lost her husband four years ago and hasn’t been able to move on. Her brother sends her on a vacation to Maui with an itinerary an instructions to get out and live a little. Drew is a single father of two who lost his wife six years ago and spends three weeks a year in Maui while his kids are with their maternal grandparents. He has dated in the past but most women find out he is a single father and are never heard from again. Drew and Emily meet and hit it off from the start and right away they decide not to talk about anything from home. Emily doesn’t want to think about her loss and Drew doesn’t want to bring up his children so they make a pact not to talk about their pasts other than to tell each other that they are both unattached. The concept is nice and it works well for a few days while they have their fling in paradise. The author does a good job in building the romance while they are in Hawaii. The sex scenes are downright steamy. When it comes time for Drew to leave, because he was there before Emily came, it gets pretty sad since she isn’t ready for more and doesn’t want to break the pact. She wants to keep it just a vacation fling while Dew wants more. He wants her address and phone details. Since the book is only halfway through at that point I doubt it is giving away spoilers to say they do end up seeing each other again. My only issue with the book is how long it takes the to end up telling each other all about themselves. There is a lot of angst and back and forth about such a silly thing. Half the time she is not wanting to know and he is trying to tell her that he has kids. If I were him, I wouldn’t preface it with, “I have something to tell you” and give her the opportunity to say I don’t want to do this right now. I would just say, “I have kids” then bam it’s out there. Because when all is said and done, the kids weren’t the issue. The not telling was. Which you could see coming a mile away. Not that she didn’t have secrets too. I hope this is not giving away spoilers, because I saw this coming from the beginning. And it was basically the point of the story, I just thought it went on a bit too long. |
I really enjoyed this book! This is the first book I have ever read by Dana Mason (my first ever ARC as well!) and I honestly am looking forward to reading more of her work. The story pulled me in from the very beginning and I really loved the characters, especially Drew. Great supporting characters as well, and Rebecca was such a great, supportive friend to Emily. One thing I really liked (its very insignificant, but I want to point it out) is that in so many romance novels that I have read, there is a scene where the heroine drinks too much and needs “taken care of”, which was also the case in this book, however instead of getting very sick, needing her hair held back, etc., Drew put her to bed and that was it, she was fine the next day. I just really liked that, because not every woman is such a lightweight! Towards the end I did start to get frustrated with Emily. In my opinion she was acting just like Grant in that she was just not listening to what Drew was saying and trying to tell her at all! And he should have just made himself heard, ugh! But it all worked out in the end, which speaking of the ending… Loved it!! |
*ARC kindly provided by NetGalley* I went into this book fairly blind (which for me is unusual). I tend to stick to the authors I know quite well when reading new books but when I saw the blurb of ‘Accidental Lies’ on NetGalley I was very intrigued by the plot and characters. I am definitely happy that I have this book and Dana Mason a chance as I thoroughly enjoyed it. ‘Accidental Lies’ follows Emily and Drew, two people both struggling with grief and loss, and places them in the beautiful island of Maui. A vacation fling seems to be what they both decide on during their time, however they both soon realize they want more from each other despite the secrets they are keeping from the other. This is a lovely summer read. I read the whole novel lying out in the sun during the afternoon, and it was an afternoon well spent. Although, I felt the pacing of the story to be a little off, some plots felt a bit rushed somehow. Despite this, the main and supporting characters were all great and the plot was interesting and engaging. Overall I would give it four stars. |
I want to thank NetGalley, Dana Mason and Bookouture for an Arc of accidental lies. One of my favorite types of romances are tropical vacation romances between strangers with a timeline of when it will end. You know you will be rooting for them to fall in love and not end it. This book was full of romance and mystery because of the things they did tell each other. Drew and Emily meet on vacation and decide to have a vacation fling but there are some rules including no talking about their lives back home and this ends at the end of vacation. Easier said then done right? I loved this book and it has some pretty intense steamy scenes. Emily is really guarded at first but she does start to break through her shell. I understood because of what she had been through. They start to fall for each other but after the vacation ends so do they until they run into each other again. This book had a great supporting cast and I honestly just loved this book. Will read more by this author and in this series. |
I received an ARC copy from publishers through Netgalley. 4/5 stars Accidental Lies is a tale of two widowers having one hell of a hot steamy fling, with one rule, no personal information. Drew and Emily find that might be a little hard to follow, when they want so much more. When, they go back home, thinking they will never see each other again, and then they run into each other, reality smacks them in the face. The plot was very well laid out. I didn't feel like I missed a thing. It did not leave me with any questions, which is a plus in my book. The book has a lot of steamy scenes, my personal favorite the muddy bed. The main character Emily, I found her a little cold for my taste. With that being said, I also never experienced what she had, but had a little bit of hard time connecting with her. Drew, is pretty much a dream boat, except sometimes, when he hesitates too much. But, when they are both together hot, hot, hot, plus Emily starts to relax and Drew just wants to make her happy. The supporting characters were well written. I adored Kyle and Hannah, and Rebecca is the best, best friend you can ever have. This book was an easy read, it was relaxing and took me away to a tropical paradise for a little while. Even though I might not have connected with Emily, this did not deter me from reading the book. She started making it up when, she had to face reality and break out of her shell. The epilogue made me so happy, and it was the cutest ending, which Kyle and Hannah stole the show on that one. After all said and done, I will definitely read another book by Dana Mason. |
This is Drew and Emily‘s book, this is the second book in the series I haven’t read the first one but after reading this I think I’m going to go back and read it, it was really good! Emily and Drew are both on vacation in Maui, Emily was locked outside of her hotel room in a buttoned up suit that was definitely not appropriate for a vacation! the chemistry between the two is hotter than ever! They both have had a lot of heartbreak in their lives that haunts them both! They both agree on some strict rules to follow ,one no talking about their lives outside of Maui and two this is just a vacation flying fling! This book was really good I highly recommend reading it, it definitely was sad at some points but there was a lot of laughs and some steam! Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me! |
