Jessica was a successful divorce attorney on the fast track to partner in her law firm. It all came to crashing halt when she discovered her boyfriend has been cheating on her. On leave from her job, the only thing Jessica has going for her is a book deal to write a woman's guide to divorce. Leasing a cabin from a woman she discovered on craigslist seems like the ideal situation to escape from it all. Jessica isn't prepared for the torrential rain, muddy impassable roads or arrogant men who stop to help.
Jason has enough on his plate without a clumsy woman getting stranded on his road. He quit baseball to return to his family ranch after the death of his parents and found the ranch struggling to survive. When he discovers the woman, he rescued setting up home in his office, thanks to his meddling grandmother he's stuck with Jessica for the time being. Jason has been hurt before, and he has no intention of letting this woman gather information on him to sell to the press. Both have been hurt before, and trust doesn't come easy. It doesn't help that sparks fly when they're together.
This is a light-hearted romance. Martha is the grandmother we would all love to have, she bakes, is a shoulder to cry on and isn't afraid to discuss sex. Jessica has enough reasons to be a stereotypical divorce lawyer, watching her parents repeat marriages, her own failed relationships, but she doesn't allow this to close her off to love.
Issues I had were pretty minor, I felt Jason's trust issues overwhelmed the story at times, and Jessica put up with his baseless accusations for too long. Overall this is a fun, lighthearted read that is easy to follow. An ideal book to while away an afternoon.
I received an arc of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

A cowboy and a baseball player?? Sign me up. Jessica and Jason’s story was so enjoyable. They rode that fine line between love and hate and the result was a sweet slow burn that I couldn’t get enough of. Although they came from different worlds, they had both been burned in similar ways and I really like how discovering that commonality between them brought them closer together. I always love when the hero and heroine truly get to know each other before love is being thrown around. Add in amazing secondary characters like Martha, Roarke and Kelly and you have a perfect book. Highly recommend!

3.5 stars - This "hate you, love you" book about a divorce lawyer, Jessica, and a baseball player, Jason, was good, but not great. The bickering went on for too long and became annoying & repetitive. Martha, Jason's grandmother, was the glue that held this book together.
This book had a lot of turmoil, but unfortunately, not a of depth.

Jessica left an A****le and rented a,cottage in the wood. She will write a book and get some piece and quiet. Instead she found Jason, an A****le. Two people hiding find each other. Once again, Lisa’s talent to write romance stories you get The Truth About Cowboys.

This is the perfect romance story. Jessica and Jason are flawed and complex characters. Each has a journey of self discovery to complete. They need each other to do it. There are so many laugh out loud moments. Jessica is quirky and feels like a friend after reading this story. I love Martha, she's fun, sweet, kind, and strong. Jason is a man to swoon for all while wanting to slap him on the back of the head. The romance is steamy and perfectly paced. The struggles of the characters are real and relatable. This definitely stands alone, but I see a couple of characters that need their own books. I have no doubt Lisa Renee Jones will deliver. This author never disappoints.

When life as she knows it ends up in shambles, Jessica needs some time away from Dallas, TX and all of the problems that come with it. Booking a getaway in the small town of Sweetwater is supposed to be just that... until she meets a cowboy who has trouble written all over him...
With the burden of the family ranch weighing on him, Jason Jenks does not need the inconvenience of a city girl staying on his property... at all. Especially one whom he just can't seem to stay away from. Plus, Jason already knows what city girls do after they've had their fill of country life... they always leave.

The Truth About Cowboys was an entertaining and engaging read about a woman working to reinvent herself in the wake of realizing how much she has sacrificed her happiness in favor of false stability. The only thing that Jessica and Jason can agree on is how much they drive each other crazy... but when the thin line between hate and lust gets blurred, their lives are in for an unforgettable ride...
Upon discovering her fiancé in bed with another woman, Jessica, a divorce lawyer, makes the mistake of insulting a client she is representing and pretty much ensuring she will never make partner at her current firm. With a book deal to fall back on, Jessica decides she needs a change of scenery to be able to focus and get her life back to where she wants it. And Sweetwater, TX seems like just the place to get away from it all...
Following the sudden death of his parents, Jason's life was forever changed. The once crazy talented baseball phenom traded in his cleats for cowboy boots and has never looked back since... or has he? Having Jessica around has given Jason a dangerous new outlook on his future, and what once seemed impossible is starting to seem like it's more within reach than ever...
This was a great read! I loved the banter and the rampant sexual tension between Jessica and Jason, and even though it took the FOREVER to get to an HEA, it was well deserved. I also felt that the story had way too many misunderstandings and jumped to conclusions (I'm looking at you, Jason). A few here are there are a great plot tool, but there were so many in this storyline, when their HEA finally did happen, I didn't feel like it was a genuine as it could have been.
Jessica and Jason were both strong willed and successful in their own right, and while they had both been burned in previous relationships, they will need to dig deep to overcome their hangups about the opposite sex. From enemies, to lovers, to friends... the relationship between Jessica and Jason is a bumpy, yet enjoyable road from beginning to end.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.

The truth about cowboys – or at least, this particular cowboy – is that they’re hot and cold assholes who despise city girls. If I ever hear or see the term “city girl” ever again, I’ll rip my hair out. Listen, I’m pretty patient and easygoing when it comes to flawed protagonists, especially in romance novels, but I cannot stand the hero in this book. Jason is a self-proclaimed asshole who constantly judges Jessica simply because she’s from the city and he’s been burned by a city girl before. He continues to judge her and makes swift assumptions about her actions even after significant relationship development. I hate how Jessica has to constantly prove herself when she hasn’t done anything wrong. What is this?? I fail to understand how Jessica fell in love with Jason. Every time she’s with a man, she has to explain herself to Jason to let him know that she’s not on a date with one of his ranch men. Because obviously, who she dates or does not date is up to this asshole cowboy. Jessica does stand up to Jason, but she also easily lets go of things and constantly makes excuses for his behaviour. No, thank you. The rest of this review will have spoilers, if you can even call them spoilers. I'm rage writing at this point.
Here’s the thing with Jason – his ex was a city girl who cheated on him with the men who work on his ranch. Understandably, his ex gets vilified because she’s a shitty person. But what about the men who willingly slept with their boss’s fiancée???? They’re not even mentioned!! Hello?? It’s not like she forced them to have sex with her. Why is she the only one being vilified? Are those men still working for Jason? If so, why is he still protective over them? And how dare he tell Jessica not to date his men?? Try telling your men not to fuck your woman, not that Jessica is even his woman. UGH THIS FUCKERY. My brain hurts.
You know what’s the sad thing? This book started off SO DAMN WELL. Clumsy and hilarious lawyer heroine and cranky ex-baseball player turned cowboy? Sounds delicious, right? The meet cute is one of the best things EVER. I was enthralled with the set up and the dynamic between Jason and Jessica. I even gave Jason some free passes in the beginning because obviously it will take some time for him to fully trust Jessica. But oh. My God. One minute Jason orders Jessica to leave and the next minute he tells her she can stay. Rinse and repeat. I wanted to slap the cowboy hat off this dude. Almost 80% into the story, after significant relationship and character development, Jason regresses and continues to compare Jessica to his ex, when she has done NOTHING to deserve this disgusting comparison. Well over 90% into the story, he still bitches over the books she’s writing. All of this after he spent so much time with Jessica and got to know her. All of this after his grandma and his best friend talked sense into him. BOY BYE! He didn't grovel enough!!!!
Aside from the ASSHOLE COWBOY, the other problem I had with this book is the writing. I really don’t like criticizing an author’s writing style, but Jones’s writing is weak, awkward, repetitive, and filled with unnecessary details. She’s a really good storyteller – there are some really memorable scenes in this book, even if the hero is a jerk. The pacing is also pretty good, which seems to be an issue in other recent romances I’ve read. But her prose is wordy, with too many run-on sentences. I was forced to reread many paragraphs twice or more to really understand what the author is trying to convey. I can’t deal with that. It makes my brain and eyes hurt. There are also a lot of inconsistencies story-wise: 1) was Jessica’s ex a fiancé or a boyfriend? 2) Roarke’s grandma is mentioned in both present and past tenses: is she alive or dead? and 3) how in the fuck did Jessica’s ex steal her money?????? I am hoping this book is edited further before final publication because it is in desperate need of a good editor.
P.S. At least the cover is droolworthy, even if the hero isn't.

essica and Jason do not have a good first meeting, nor do they make a good first impression on each other. Jessica finds herself in some hot water with Jason, even though she doesn't understand why. It seems his meddling grandmother, Martha, has caused some mischief in an ill-advised attempt to bring some life to the ranch. Jessica and Jason have each been burned by love and neither are in a hurry to find it again. They were like oil and water and, I truly did have a hard time believing their feelings for each other when both of them pushed the other one's buttons so much. I understood Jason's reluctance to trust Jessica, but I had a hard time understanding her willingness to let him treat her so badly at points. Did enjoy Jason finally figuring out what was important. Liked how Martha just wanted what was best for her grandson.
I liked the side characters and am interested to read the next book in this series. I really did enjoy Martha and how she shows up more.
I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.

Jessica is a hot-shot divorce lawyer from Dallas. She has left the city to find peace and quiet to decide what she wants to do with her life. She has rented this cute cottage in the middle of nowhere. The only problem is that it is already taken. Jason Jenks is an ex-pro baseball players. He is home trying to save the ranch. From the very beginning, they are setting off sparks. Added to that, Jessica is a klutz and Jason is constantly saving her. The character that steals the book is Martha/Grandma. She is a hoot. Loyal to her grandson, a great sense of humor and a fantastic baker. She also thinks she's found the perfect person for her grandson. Until the past is dealt with, neither can move forward.

Cozy, fun and so good it makes me want to settle down in a cowboy-filled ranch.
Admittedly , I am not a fan of cowboys in general, but this author appeals to me enough to overcome that. And oh my, what a treat I gave myself.
Jason and Jessica are combustible together. They are that kind of storm out in the open beneath huge skies, overpowering and electrifying. I loved the raging encounters between them filled with confrontation and wit and strong passion. From the way they meet which is a mix of comic and traditional, to the combative but irresistible attraction they hide under a shield of suspicion and distance, the scenes spark with chemistry.
I felt close to the characters because their lives are an interesting mess. She is running from a ruined life while building the foundation of a new one. He is fighting to avoid being sucked under the past. And wow, he is a brooding, sexy beast of a man. Fantastic on paper, seems hot in the flesh too 😄
I loved the grandma character, her resilience and the touch of family warmth she added to the story yet also to a lonely Jessica.
As I carried on reading, the story turned more hilarious and steamy by the page. There's a scene involving a grandma, cowboy dating and a cat that was priceless!
This couple is really hard on the making. He's too stubborn and prideful, so she gets quite bruised in the process emotionally speaking. Sometimes I I wanted to hit him on the head because she’s so good and nice and funny and she didn’t deserve so much rejection. It’s quite emotional in the middle of all the humorous situations and the wonderful ideas she has for her career and the ranch. I loved those so much.
The cowboy and the city girl go through many bumps in this second chance romance that is also a second chance at life dreams and self-worth. I loved Sweetwater and the cowboys there, and this couple inspired me a lot. Finally he comes to his senses despite his villanous baggage and he makes his woman all hot and bothered and happy-hearted.
I do hope I can get a chance to revisit the place and all its lovable inhabitants.

I loved this one. You get the sexy, the sweet. You get the laughs and you get your heartstrings pulled just a little. You will love this one. I mean how can you go wrong with a sexy cowboy and a meddling grandma. All I gotta say is Martha is a hoot. Jessica is sweet with a strong head on her shoulders. She is clumsy and somewhat a magnet for disaster. Jason is gruff and puts family and his ranch first. I love Jason even when he runs hot and cold with Jessica. It's his relationship with his grandma Martha that seals the deal for me. It is just so sweet. The chemistry between Jessica and Jason is so hot. You will love and may get a little annoyed at times with how much effort they fight things between each other. But trust me it is worth it. This book is fantastic and I couldn't get enough. I'm looking forward to another visit to Sweetwater.

I absolutely loved this story about two individuals that have had losses, and been deeply hurt. Jason is a former famous baseball player that has been burned by a city gal, left the game he loved , lost his parents in an airplane accident, loves his grandmother whom he wants to keep happy and is dealing with a ranch that is barely surviving. Jessica escapes the city after being betrayed by her fiancee and is given leave from her job as a divorce lawyer when she speaks her mind to the wealthiest client of the firm. She rents a cabin in a little town in Texas, hoping to write a book about divorce, and looking for some peace in her life.
From the moment these two meet , sparks fly as well as distrust .
It’s an engaging, heartbreaking, at times funny as well as heartwarming story about family. About once again trusting your heart, finding oneself , forgiveness and of course romance.
You will fall in love with the main characters, as well as the secondary ones, especially Jason’s grandmother. Though I have to confess that at times you’ll want to shake Jason with all his insecurities.
Can’t wait for book 2 in the series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Entangled.

I was stoked to receive my first ever ARC from Lisa Renee Jones through NetGalley. It's my first ARC but not my first read.
The blurb pulled me in... I love romance, I love cowboys and I love baseball and I thought this sounds like something I'd enjoy to read and so here we are.
I think there's a certain way to write a love-hate relationship without completely exasperating the reader and this one has just the right amount of push and pull that gives you those romantic chills. I kept on bracing myself because I was excited of the build-up.... Build up is everything when it comes to romance.
Reading this kinda' reminded me of Country Nights by Winter Renshaw, and I've re-read that book many times especially when find myself in a bookfunk. I'm pretty sure I'll be re-reading this one in the future as well.
I enjoyed the book though there were times when I think Jason was being too much of an a$$hö£e, but he makes it work because Jessica isn't someone who can be pushed-around without pushing back as well.
If you're looking for something to read that would relive the stress away and escape real life for a bit, then this is the book to pick up next.

Yikes, talk about a toxic relationship! The meanness of the “hero”, Jason, literally lasted the entire book. From beginning to end. He constantly attacked Jessica, accused her of dressing in such a way to attract and distract his men, and then they would have makeup sex. It was literally insult, sex, repeat. For the whole book. Jason is an emotionally abusive guy who has no business with Jessica. The best ending to this book would have been her slapping him and walking away. Sadly, that is not what happened. I thought she got a backbone for a second there but then sexual appeal won out in the end. Because his personality sure didn’t win her over.
I am usually not so tough on books, but having just recently separated myself from a relationship with a person exactly like Jason, this is a sore spot for me. Abuse is abuse, and just because the abuser claims to love you and apologizes doesn’t mean he won’t do it again. Which Jason showed over and over again in this book.

A City girl roughing it in the mud with high heeled boots. This has disaster written all over it. But wait! In comes a Cowboy to the rescue, only this Cowboy hates city girls with a passion. A romcom that is filled with angst, passion and love. Two broken hearts fighting against one another, to see who will give in first. But being burned makes trust hard.
Jason, has a lot of people that count on him, making him even the worst kind of alpha male. You know the kind that has to take care of everything and wont let a woman help. Yeah that is Jason.
Jessica, a divorce attorney with a heart of gold, trying to reinvent herself as a writer, becomes more than that as she bonds with Jason's grandmother. Baking cookies and becoming part of something she never thought she would have. A steady loving family. Divorce in the morning, cookies in the afternoon
This book is the perfect combination of passion and heart, written as only Lisa can write it.
I read this book while raining outside, it made me feel as if I were Jessica typing away at her laptop listening to the raindrops hit the roof. The description and wording in this book transport you to another place, a place called Sweetwater Texas.
An 8 start read!
My Favorite Passage from the book ~ Holy hotness, Batman. Who's the ----alicious cowboy?

This book by Lisa Renee Jones is something different from her normal genre. It was refreshing and was a nice change up! This light hearted story about a love gone wrong and two people meeting and not knowing but they are perfect for each other! This book was so easy to read and a page turner!

3.5 Granny Takes Charge Stars

Oh My, What a Cover! He is the perfect ad for Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy! Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest.
Now the book. Lisa Renee Jones has created a female divorce lawyer who is successful and smart. She is respected and also has a personal life looking to be set...Until she finds her fiance' and his secretary going at it in bed. The moon must have been Mercury in Retrograde because the next thing she does is call out the biggest client she has as an asshat, pretty much destroying her high powered career in Dallas.
Not one to sit around and weep, she decides to take all she knows about divorce and write a book. Oh and she somehow connects with a sweet grandmother type woman who rents her a cottage away from Dallas.
What the Granny planned was for this woman to wake up her sweet grandson. This man gave up his Baseball career when his parents died. He needed to come back and save the ranch the way the parents had wanted. He also had been burned by his fiance' when she decided ranch life wasn't for her. So Granny's grandson has a chip on his shoulder about women and does not want her help.
These two meet, not in the best ways and the games begin...If Granny has her way, love will be in the air.
A gifted copy was provided by author/publisher via NetGalley for an honest review.

This was a hard push and pull romance with a couple that often straddled the line between love and hate.
While Jessica is working on writing a divorce guide, her drunk friends talk her into writing a romance. Soon she’s doing both and each books shadows her emotions towards the jerky cowboy that is stealing her heart. From the highs to lows, her writing is a reflection of what she is experiencing with Jason. Unfortunately, it looks like she might have to dig further into fiction in order for the romance to have a happy ever after.
Jason was burned by a city girl and with the death of his parents and the condition of the ranch, his plate is full. He gave up pitching in order to take care of business and ensure his grandmother’s future. While he loves the ranch as well as his grandmother, his passion is baseball until he meets Jessica. Now he’s tormented with wanting it all and unable to make his complete dream come true.
I enjoyed these characters. Jessica was smart but a bit clumsy which led to some fun moments. Jason was damaged and carried the world on his shoulders but was too afraid to make the changes that would bring him peace. They were each wounded by life and afraid to yield to what was growing between them.
There is a lot of back and forth between Jessica and Jason which created a wealth of angst. With every decision Jessica made, Jason seemed to take it the wrong way. Even while they battled it out, the chemistry between them sizzled keeping this couple in a constant state of want and desire that pushed against what their minds told them.
This has a great pace to it, never bogging down. There is plenty of humor, lots of steam, and some amazing secondary characters I can’t wait to see more of. Overall, this was a great read for anyone who enjoys the push and pull of which this couple excels!

This one is different from others in this author's recent releases but WOW was this one GREAT! Jessica is on the run. From her life, her career, her fiancee, and basically life but getting stuck in the mud on the way to her new lease and rescued by a cowboy is the best way to start this story. Add in the fact the cowboy is really an ex-pro pitcher and now rancher and she is staying in his cottage...err...office, rented to her by his grandmother, and this story just leaps off the page. I could not turn the pages fast enough. I highly recommend this one for a fun and sexy read!
**Received this ARC for review from the publisher via Net Galley*

Yes! Lisa you nailed it! Writing about a cowboy over a billionaire is different. But in a good way! It was a change of pace from her other books. This book was as dark. Took place in Texas away from the city. I enjoyed the humor you added as well. This book had all kinds of ups and downs in it. Downs as in: loss, cheating, debt, loss of dreams and snakes. But ups as in: humor, baking, love, new dreams and a sphinx cat! The banter between Jessica and Jason was hilarious. With Jason flying off the handle at Jessica so easily and Jessica comparing Jason to an ex every chance she could get! This all started with a sweet lady named Martha(aka-grandma). She just wanted to grandson to be happy and to stop living the life he wanted. If you are a fan of Lisa, this one will not disappoint. Just a different pace and setting.
