Oh I loved this! It was so simple, yet so complex. It completely changed direction from where I thought it was going.

I had really high hopes about this book, especially with the comparisons to Me Before You and One Day but I didn’t enjoy it all that much. It was just ok. The overall storyline was good. But I failed to fully warm to any of the characters. It wasn’t all that clear between the time jumps and it just felt very rushed, especially the end. It didn’t really feel like much happened all in all. I also found the relationship between Dannie and Bella a little too intense. I got they were supposed to be like family but there was just something odd about it. Worth a read but I wouldn’t go back to it.

"In Five years" is a beautifully crafted, surprising and emotional read, focusing on love, friendship and following your heart. It starts with a day in life of Dannie, a career focused young woman who first nails an important job interview, then gets engaged to her boyfriend and, during the evening of celebrations, falls asleep. When she wakes up she is in a different apartment, with a different man, five years into the future. Is it a vision or a premonition of her life? But Dannie doesn't really want to change anything, she is happy on her straight, secure and long established path. Or so she thinks, until over four years later, she meets her best friend's Bella's new boyfriend. And he is the man from that night.

This book was completely unexpected, it stunned me, I liked it so much. From the first pages, I was immediately hooked, but any ideas I might have had about how this story will evolve, were completely wrong. Rebecca Serle wrote a story about friendship, true love and about destiny. I was so curious how she'll pull off the ending, and it did not disappoint me. Everything in this story was fresh, raw even, emotional and yet not in the slightest bit corny. I simply loved it, right? The main characters, their lives, their struggles and their stories were very natural and beautifully written. The story was well paced and constructed in such way that even a cynic like me could not argue with the way in which the story unfolded.

What else can I say, this book is a gem and you all need to read it asap.

This is the first book I have read by Rebecca Serle, and I really enjoyed it.
It was like sliding doors with 2 alteratives,. It raised so many questions that it makes it perfect for a book club.
Do you believe in Kismet? Can you change the future do other people experience similar dreams?

The story of Belle is very sad, the descriptions of the different kinds of love are very good. The ending of the book surprised me as I was expecting a continuation rather than an end! I really enjoyed reading this and will get a copy of her other book now

Writing this still in the bubble of emotion when reaching the final page. Boy oh boy. At first glance this is a really clever take on the classic interview question “Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?” but it is so much more than that. A beautifully detailed and intimate portrait of love, both romantic and platonic and the choices we make. I think I need more than a moment to get over it. This book deserves to be HUGE.

I absolutely LOVED this book. I took it in a school trip and still read it in 24 hours. At first I thought it was going to flash backwards and forwards but luckily not. It is one of the very few books that have made me cry. I loved the girls relationship and I thought I wanted a different ending but after I realised I didn’t and it was perfect. I am off to look for other books by this author - recommend 100%

This book is “The notebook” of this year. An absolutely heart breaking page turner full of characters with depth.

This was an unusual book. From the start there was a hint that this was going to go in an unexpected direction, and it started to do so ... but then ended up right where you sort of feared it would yet hoped it wouldn't ... it needs an epilogue or a sequel so we can find out what happens to Dannie next ... that would make or break the book for me!

I did enjoy the fact that the book takes us along with Dannie on her journey of self-discovery, friendship, love and complex relationships with parents, work colleagues, friends, partners, and more ...

I found the characters engaging, and the descriptions good. I definitely would read more from this author, but hope that she doesn't just do the expected - we need the unexpected, the different!

Disclosure: I received this book free via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I really struggled with this book. It started off so strong but I felt like the writer just went off to a completely different subject. The characters especially the main one weren’t very likeable. I didn’t enjoy this.

Love the premise of this book, Dannie is a lawyer, has everything planned for her future, marriage, where they will live , her career. She then has a dream five years from now that shows her with a different person, different apartment. The story then follows Dannie over the five years and she then meets the person from her dream.

Dannie is determined to stick to her five year plan but life has different plans for her.

This story is not what I expected at all, very different and it was interesting and hard at times to see how we reach to the time where the dream took place. It covers love & friendship and how fraught and complex these relationships can be at times.

I am definitely keen to read more from Rebecca Serle.

Thank you to NetGalley and publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for a honest review.

Dannie Kohan has a plan, a 5 year plan. She knows exactly what she wants from her life, and is well on the way to getting it all. She is a lawyer, is newly engaged to David and has just aced the interview for her dream job. That night she wakes up in a strange apartment, with a man who isn’t her fiancé. On the tv screen, she sees the date - exactly 5 years from now. This dream haunts her life, makes her feel she is missing something but won’t allow her mind to tell her what.

This is a love story with a twist. It is emotional, heart breaking and even uplifting. A roller coaster tale of love and true friendship. The author explores the complex relationships with parents, friends and lovers. Beautifully written and thought provoking.

In this book we meet Dannie. We meet her as she goes through a strange dream.

It has a 13 going on 30 feel to it. But instead of watching her live her life in the future, we see the journey she has to get there. And what a journey it is.

I have never had a book made me feel so heart broken as this book has. I am an emotional mess right now. I would love to see Dannie a year from the end of this book to see how she is doing. And how she is coping. If she got her happily ever after.

This book is heartbreakingly stunning and it will stay with me for a long time. I will hug my best friend a little bit tighter next time I see her. That is for sure.

My first book by Rebecca and it certainly wont be my last.

This book really touched me. I felt the main characters were multi-dimensional and really cared about their fate. Very well written and insightful.

I really liked this book. It wasn’t always easy reading since the emotional tension was palpable. I thought it was going to be ‘chick lit’ but it was much more than that and I read it in an afternoon. A celebration of the power of love and friendship.

Wow. This was an amazing journey of a read. I expected a lighthearted romcom, what I got was writing that was light but deft. The author explored friendship, growth, romantic and parental relationships, grief and what it truly means to be happy, all against backdrop of a never over- described New York. I found myself racing to the end and finishing it in one tense couch sitting. Very very well done!
