A strong female lead with a hidden identity, a story with plenty of magic, and a sprinkling fae? Yes please! I love how Sarah doesn't know her real identity, and is just trying to survive life in a less-than-ideal family situation. Sarah is a great lead, and we get to watch her change and grow as the story progresses. Levi was great, and comes into Sarah's life at just the right time. I would've liked more time to explore the fae realm, but overall the story was enjoyable.

Overall I enjoyed the storyline, could it have been more- yes but it was enough for a short young adult book. Yes, there were some editing errors that could have been fixed easily but this did not detour from enjoyment of reading the book. I liked the journey Sarah had to go on and despite finding her true path, the road is never easy. The one thing that made me not really get into this book was the fact that she was a fairy, but then this was written with magical realms and creatures in mind. Her story will continue in another book and it will be interesting to see how the now Eliza will manage her new found role. Good for the young adults, lovers of fantasy.

A YA fantasy story with mystery, drama, angs tand romance.
Saran/Eliza doesn't seem to fit in her family.
She discovers that she is from a different realm.
There she discovers who she really is along with her true love.
But things happens and everything is not working how she thought.
Good story.

The Hidden Crown is the story of a teenager who feels like a misfit and then suddenly finds her way to her true home. Where she discovers her family, and. her true identity.. While falling in love along the way, I enjoyed the story, but I definitely felt it could have been longer. I look forward to reading the next one to see how the story progresses.

A LOT OF SPOILERS

This book has an interesting idea but hasn't been executed well.

The author doesn't give you much background on the main character. it skips over her family a little which explains that her family isn't caring and are very distant but that is about it.
The main character also hasn't been given much depth. No characteristics, no personality, you just see at the beginning that she likes books and uses them a=to escape from reality and into the fantasy world.

Issues:
A minor one, the main character mentions that the flowers in her dream look like sunflowers but are far too tall to be them. Then mentions that she is five foot and the flowers reach her shoulders. Sunflowers can grow very tall, a lot manage to grow taller than a 6-foot tall man. Other than that issue, the flowers do sound amazing, I want some in my garden!

The number FIVE seems to pop up a lot in the second chapter. A lot of people are exactly five foot, five AP classes, her teacher has been there for five years. I put this up to poor editing as someone should have picked up on this awkward amount of FIVE's in a very short space of time.

Sarah's first day of school that we see seems to consist of only one class? She goes to calculus then falls asleep, then when the bell rings she jumps in her car and drives to the library.

Sarah seems to grasp that she is weirdly adopted from a boy she doesn't know without a single issue. I found it a little weird that she had no argument or problem with it what-so-ever.

My biggest issue with this book is that it moves way to fast, there is no meat on the bones, no conversation, no descriptions, nothing. It's bare.

It's not really revealed until a little later in chapter three that her 'parents' are abusive toward Sarah / Eliza. If it were made clearer earlier on in the book some other things would have made more sense.

Sarah/Eliza and Levi are seventeen, but yet I feel that they both act a lot younger than that.
No one questions this random kid just joining classes without any introduction or paperwork or anything?
There is a new enemy introduced into the story which really has no description or why she is scary or we should be afraid. It moved too fast where suddenly she has a blade pressed against her neck. And how can you not hear people fighting after Levi rips her away from Eliza/Sarah?
I feel so bad for Sarah/Eliza that she has felt so unwanted all her life and has a hard time believing that her biological parents could ever want her.
She leaves school early with Levi (I have a hard time believing at this point that she has ever attended a full day of school.) to meet her parents for lunch because of the attack. Then suddenly they are deciding what they want for Supper? Another editing issue.
Sarah/Eliza suddenly has some sense to question the situation when her bio mother (the father whom doesn’t seem to be one with words) says that they have power to manipulate elements. But in a weird bipolar kind of way agrees to go to a house with these weird people she doesn’t know to talk about magic? Seems like poor judgment and the start of a horror where the naïve give gets sacrificed to gods.
Time seems rather warped in this book. Some things are too short and some are long. Sarah/Eliza just ate a supper that was meant to be lunch yet she is so hungry that her stomach is grumbling? And seriously, does she only eat fast food?
Okay, no one in the world has ever said that the person they want to protect should be at the back. They should be in the middle.

This book has some serious editing issues and needs to be fattened up more. More information about the characters, places, and situations. There is not much to go on, it's like being half-blind.

DNF at about 30%
The book had an interesting idea but it needs a lot of work and editing.

The Hidden Crown was an enjoyable read. Having the main character not know who and what she really was turned out to be a good twist. At times I felt the story was a bit rushed, but not rushed to the point where it was missing information. I liked how the main character Sarah/Eliza evolved. Sarah was a timid and quiet character who always did what she was told and sort of a social outcast because she was academically gifted. After finding out the truth, Sarah evolved into Eliza, a born leader. Eliza is a take charge kind of person who wants to right the wrongs and wants to make a positive difference in her kingdom. After standing up for what she feels and believes in, she finds herself in love with someone she cannot be with. With the turn of events towards the end of the book, I can't help but wonder if love will prevail or will she end up with someone she doesn't love.

The Hidden Crown had a promising concept and it is clear that the author has a vivid and beautiful imagination.
This was a fast and short read that can be consumed in one sitting - perfect if that is what you're craving.

Nevertheless, the grammar and incredible simplicity in sentence structure have not made this an enjoyable read for me.
I believe it makes for a fantastic first draft of a story, but is still in dire need of editing and fleshing out of both the world, as well as the characters that inhabit it. In that case, I might be interested to catch up on Eliza's and Levi's adventures.

This story has an interesting concept but it was rushed in my opinion. There were a little backstory and a lot of side characters mentioned. Would like to see more of the story since I couldn't get an insight into the land. I hope she writes more of this story since it ended in a cliffhanger!! Would like to learn more about Levi and Samson.

An entertaining read, although needs some editing work on this, it was an interesting read about friendship, survival and moving on. I thought the story and themes were really good, a book full of inspiration and hope, a little work with editing and it would be even better.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

The theme of this book was surviving abuse, and I really enjoyed the plot of the story and the characters. However, it needs a fair amount of editing to fix what seem to be randomly inserted words, homophones, and inconsistencies. It also feels a bit jumpy, but again an editor should help smooth things out. Aside from the grammatical issues, though, it is a lovely book that is full of hope, creativity, friendship, and love, and I think anybody who has survived a miserable situation will appreciate both the story and its message. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

I was given a free copy of The Hidden Crown, but that did not affect my review.
