An Everyday Hero was a perfect mix of heartbreaking and heartwarming. This in my first Laura Trentham book and it is a must read! The story is so touching and loving; fate brings these two wounded people together. I fell in love with the 2 main characters, Emmett and Greer, but I also liked all the different side characters. This is a great story and I will be recommending it to my friends and book club!

I loved this story. I love the idea that dreams can change. Not everything happens right away, but dreams evolve and turn into something else. I love that what initially scared Greer not only helped her heal but helped others to heal as well. It was a trickle effect. I love that she was a little sarcastic and gave Emmett what he really needed...while Emmett was a hero because of his service and sacrifice, Greer was one in helping others deal with their pain.

What a great, feel good read! There were numerous "heroes" with troubles that needed healing in this touching, small town story.

The writing was as top notch as the story itself. I'm a first time reader of Laura Trentham but it won't be the last investment I make reading more of her work.

This book is so good, and an emotional roller coaster, full of highs and lows, and ups and downs. I liked the way all three of the main characters are damaged, but not in a devastating way, just in a ‘life is throwing a lot of curves’ kind of way. They each have their issues, and are feeling very beat down by life, and yet the author didn’t take the easy way out and make these issues insurmountable. There is hope written in here, and a strong showing for how a little kindness and support can go a long way in any person’s situation. The snark, sarcasm and banter made this laugh-out-loud in places. The difficulties each were dealing with made me tear-up in others. It was great how the characters were allowed to grow and change, but in a realistic, gradual way as they found what they needed. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley. This is my freely given, honest review.

An Everyday Hero (Heart of a Hero #2) by Laura Trentham had me hooked from the beginning and kept getting more intriguing as the story evolved. This is a beautiful story of redemption and grace. Greer, Ally, and Emmett are the main characters in this story that will draw you in and make you want to come back for more. The author did a great job of providing backstory, I felt like I knew each character very well and was rooting for them at a deep level. An Everyday Hero deals with some pretty heavy subject matter (addiction, war wounds, loss of a parent to name a few), but it is done in a compassionate way that seemed quite realistic to me. I would highly recommend this book.

This was a great novel about love, loss, and second chances! Greer is back in her hometown. One night she makes a mistake and is assigned to do community service. There she is assigned to work with two people both who have experienced incredible loss in their lives. They are all angry and disappointed about what has happened to them. Greer will become more involved in their lives in ways she couldn’t imagine.

Enjoyable romance involving two lovable yet broken characters. I liked the real life banter between Greer and Emmett. The author does a good job of including true life struggles that come into play as we all try to achieve dreams and goals.
Good quick read, hard to put it down.

Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for allowing me to read this book.

Greer who cannot figure what she wanted for her life not until she was forced to have community service hours and met Ally.

And then Emmett made Greer's life more interesting.

The beginning was a slow pace for me but the middle part made me hook-up. I like the connection between Ally and Emmett. That was surprising!

This story is uplifting, life-changing, and sweet! I can't wait to read for another Heart of Hero story.

Thank you for the St. Martin's Griffin and Netgalley for the ARC!

An Everyday Hero by Laura Trentham was given in ARC form from Netgalley for an honest review. This the first time that I read a book by Laura Trentham. This beautifully, emotional charged novel the the second book in Laura's Heart of a Hero. An Everyday Hero is truly a beautiful, wonderous, and fun read for anyone. A young woman, who dreamed of being the next Reba McEntire or Carrie Underwood, only to have her dreams dashed when her personal life comes causing down around into a thousand pieces.
Greer Hadley, thru some fault of her own has a been given a second chance, per say, to use her love music and her special gift in another way. Greer has been assigned to be a volunteer at a music therapy house] to aid Veterans and their family memebers. Greer is not real happy with this outcome, but it beats going to jail. Greer is tasked with being the volunteer for a sarcastic filled teen-aged girl. Ally, the sarcastic filled teen just lost her military father while serving for his country.
During the first court-ordered therapy session Greer matches Ally's sarcastic personality with her own. Ally is not sure how to take that, but does not back down from Greer. While overseeing Greer's volunteering is an old friend of Greer's Amelia. Amelia knows that if anyone can break thru Ally's tough outside exterior it will be Greer. After witnessing a little success with Ally in a very short period of time, Amelia tasks Greer to another person of interest. A man Greer may know from her childhood, but after coming home from a war, he is not the same person as he once was. Emmett Lawson feels that he can handle what he is going thru on his own, His family and friends are worried about him and try have seek out help thru the community outreach center. Emmett does not feel that he needs to share what he has gone thru to a stranger or even someone he knows about what had happen, what he saw, what he experienced while serving his country. When Greer meets Emmett in the most interesting and nerve raking way, Greer knows that she has work cut for her again with Emmett. No matter what Emmett "throws" at her, it will not maker Greer walk away from him.

Greer has had a rough time of it lately, a Failing music career and a relationship that is crumbling. With all that, she decides to drink a little more than she should and take it out on a jukebox and is now paying for it. Emmett, the home town boy is back home after being severely injured in the war. Can these to broken souls help each other or will they both keep falling deeper apart? This was a great feel-good story. Although there were definitely some sad parts of the book you really saw both characters grow and realize that they still had so much to live for. I loved the way Greer made Emmett break away from his self-hatred and how Emmett helped Greer see she was so much more than she was giving herself credit for. This also touches on the PTSD that our soldiers have to deal with when they come home from the war and a different way in which they can be helped.

A wonderful book 2 of this "Heart of a Hero" series by Laura Trentham, I was just as engrossed in this book as the first one. It was full of great characters and a heartfelt story as well. Greer, Ally and Emmett will all bring a different emotion out in you as you read their story unfold throughout this book. Once a started this book it was very hard to put down to go to work as I could not read it all in one sitting as I would have wished. The author's style of writing enables you to feel and see everything the characters are feeling and seeing which just makes the experience that much better.

This story will give you the physical, emotional, and psychological effects that war has on both the soldiers and their families. It will also share how love, music, friendship, trust and a community can help to heel the scares left behind to see a future in the sky of dark clouds.

I am thankful for the opportunity to read and review this great book, thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to give my honest review of this book.

I can't' wait until book number three to see what rollercoaster the author will take us on next.

An Everyday Hero by Laura Trentham is the second book in the A Heart of a Hero series and was a heartwarming surprise. Greer left home with big dreams, but life did not work as she wanted. When she returns home, she finds herself doing community service and meeting people who will change her life. Aly, a teenager, is hurting after losing her father, and is hiding behind all kinds of bitterness. Then there is Emmett who is haunted, broken and lost. Can Greer reach them and help? An Everyday Hero by Laura Trentham had wonderful characters and was emotional, touching and full of all kinds feels.

Happy reading!

I had looked forward to reading An Everyday Hero since I enjoyed The Military Wife which is the first book in the Hometown Hero series. But while The Military Wife lived up to the hype that this was the author’s foray into the Women’s Fiction market, An Everyday Hero came across as just another quickly generated formatted romance novel. I abandoned this book a quarter of the way into reading it. While I’m not a prude, I felt terms like “jerk off” and repeated references to how the main character was so proud of kicking the obnoxious deputy in the balls were rather unnecessary. I also thought it was very unrealistic that a character who was ordered to perform community service for public intoxication would be downing shots while visiting the veteran she was asked to visit and then even worse driving home afterwards. Also while I understand she was trying to establish rapport with the teenager she was assigned to work with, her crude language/explicit information she provided about her personal situation was totally inappropriate. I will not be posting any reviews on consumer sites or Goodreads because they would be negative.

An Everyday Hero is the second book in the Heart of a Hero series.
It is an emotional book with all the right feels that you will love and it's so great you'll probably want to read it a second time.
There are heroes and then there are the unsung heroes.
We all are a product of our environment and our experiences.
Emmett Lawson is such a perfect example of this, he comes back from the war battered, broken and bruised not only in mind but body as well. No longer the golden boy he has trouble accepting his fate and you know what I don't blame him. No one knows how they would react in a similar circumstance unless it has happened to them so we need to not be so quick to judge others.
Greer Hadley is a failure in life, at least this is how she feels when her musical career doesn't pan out as she had expected she is forced to return home to her utmost shame to Madison,Tennessee.
Once home depression leads to a night of poorly chosen decisions, her punishment is community service hours for a local nonprofit organization that aids veterans and their families.
How is Greer going to be able to help Emmett deal with the mental and physical scars he carries when she is so wrapped up in the loss of everything that has brought her joy?
Great character development and the pacing was just right.

Greer Hadley is now back living at home with all of her dreams of being the next greatest country music star gone. So she makes a few wrong choices and ends up in front of a judge, who happens to be her uncle. She is given a sentence that she didn’t expect… work with a nonprofit that helps veterans and their families through music. Greer gets paired up with Ally, the fifteen year old that everyone has given up on. She also finds herself at the reclusive home of Emmett Lawson, an old friend that came home from his service with lots of scars as well. While Greer is assigned to help and mentor these two, she learns more about herself and starts healing some old wounds. When Ally finds herself in a crisis, Greer and Emmett come to her rescue, but find out that Ally helps them as much as they do her.

Let me start by saying I went into this book blind. I had no idea this was a series by this author (Book #2 of Heart of a Hero). I am DEFINITELY picking up book 1. I was thinking something contemporary, light and fluffy. While this book was really easy to read, I found that the depth of this story and the writing were the biggest surprises to me. I loved the character development of all three of these main characters but also the other minor characters as well. I also enjoyed that while Greer was sent to help others, the act of helping was what ultimately starts her healing process. This was fabulous and I can’t wait to see what is next with this series. 5 star read for me.

Thanks to St Martin’s and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I requested this book because it was set in my actual hometown of Madison, Tennessee - which no one had ever heard of (suburb of Nashville). I was blown away by Laura Trentham's storytelling.
