I loved this book. The instructions were easy to follow but didn't stifle my creativity. It was so much fun.

Great little book on patterns for doodles, great to fill space on a sticky note, they really impress my boss when I leave a note with an zentangle

I had no idea this was a thing, yet now I'm fascinated by it. Clearly I knew not the first thing about this activity prior to looking at this book. Parts of the book do assume you have some knowledge, but overall it was still easy to follow. Unfortunately the downloaded version from NetGalley did not contain many of the numerous images included in this book. Clearly the images are an integral part of the book and are often referenced in the word portions as examples. Without those images I did feel a bit lost.
I wish I had more time on my hands to really dedicate myself to learning some of this. What I did try started out as frustrating, but it allowed me to become more forgiving with myself and ultimately lead to a relaxing activity even if my drawings were far from "perfect". It was an exercise in both creativity but also in letting go and accepting myself.

Zentangle Dingbatz is a hands on instructive book about how to create mini decorative Zentangle designs.

Starting with a description and history of the Zentangle and following on immediately into practical how-to instructionals, this book is perfect for someone who has never ventured into doodle art before, or someone who just wants to expand their Zentangle skills and learn about Dingbatz.

I have never come across such a prescriptive understanding of Zentangling before, and I find it fascinating that people have defined this creative art so intensively. For instance, there is a page which tells the reader that one a Zentangle has been coloured in, it is no longer a Zentangle but is in fact Zentangle Inspired Art, or a ZIA for short. Apparently Zentangles must be abstract, and not representational of anything literal, which I also did not know.

I think that this way of over-defining will appeal especially to academic types and those who love to understand a subject fully in order to enjoy it. Those who are drawn to Zentangle because of it's flowiness and lack of strict definition may want to look elsewhere for inspiration.

I enjoy doodles and especially zentangles, I always like seeing new ideas and coming up with new designs.

My friend is really into zentangle for improving hand eye coordination, creativity but first and foremost - mindfulness.
She got me started with some Christmas gifts of a zentangle book and fineliners. I quickly got addicted and found this book, with new ideas and inspiration for zentangling. It would also be ideal for someone new to zentangle as it is easy to follow.

I was not familiar with Zentangle before reading this book and, having read it cover to cover, I am still not really sure what differentiates it from commercialising doodling. This said, I did enjoy creating some of "Zentangles" of my own. I feel as though this book gave both not enough information and too much information about Zentangles so a complete beginner (like myself) feels out of their depth and doesn't have an adequate foundation before moving on the the Dingbatz, whilst someone who is familiar with Zentangle would find that a considerable chunk of the book is seemingly wasted on information that they are already familiar with.

The sections of the book devoted to Dingbatz seemed to not have quite enough theory and largely seemed to be giving examples of where or how you might use them as opposed to how to make them work.

The most useful part of this book was the "Tangle Gallery" at the end however all of this could be found online so it is up to you to judge whether you would like a physical reference copy of these tangles.

Until I picked up this book, I had never heard of Zentangle, although I have often done this type of doodling in a much simpler form. Now I know that I’ve actually been engaging in a type of artform.

Zentangle Dingbatz is an intriguing book that will lead the reader through the fundamentals of zentangle. Then, by incorporating these basic designs into a variety of creative projects, you will produce dingbatzs…truly unique forms of art that can be incorporated into hand lettering, journaling, and scrapbooks, or enjoyed as stand-alone designs and works of art.

Brian Crimmins book includes techniques from beginner to more advanced, suggested projects, and workshop pages for practice. Many followers of zentangle enjoy the stress-relieving qualities of this activity as well as the final, creative results. This book should appeal to anyone who is interested in a new or different form of art.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.

I received this in 2019, and it took me forever to review it. The reason is, the book was very disappointing. I love zentangle, and have used lots of awesome books abut it.
This was was kind of messy, not well organized, not really appealing as you turn the pages.
Plus, in the egalley I received from the publisher, most of the projects came out as totally black pictures!
Why would you offer an e-galley in that condition if you want readers to write nice reviews about an art book?
I would actually be afraid to buy this as an ebook, in case this would also be in the case in the final product.
To be honest, this is the very first time that I receive a bad file like this through Netgalley.
Fox Chapel Publishing may not be ready yet for that type of file sharing.

For once, I'm only doing a review on Goodreads. This book is not worth being featured on my blog. And no need to review it on Barnes & Noble or other, or post it on social media.

Reading this book was enlightening and entertaining! It’s the first book I’d ever read on the art of Zentangle!
Ideas were clear and concise and the author encourages free design within the parameters of the beginning artist.
Especially noted were the many applications for this art form. My daughter is an art therapist and routinely uses this art form as a therapeutic aide.
I’ve come to use it in a scriptural journal. As I draw it frees my mind to deeper insights. Bravo to the author!!

With my own recent interest and a heightened popularity of Art Journaling, I jumped at the chance to review Zentangle Dingbatz by Brian Crimmins. The author has put together a beautiful collection of inspirational designs for any doodler out there, complete with an intro to Zentangle. Early on, a supply list is provided, explaining the what's and whys for each component listed. I was impressed with the projects the author provides, especially the inspiration for envelopes! As a bonus, there are scattered bits of useful information (how to write a Haiku) throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with Zentangle Dingbatz and look forward to referencing back again and again. Thank you to NetGalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for the opportunity to review this gem in exchange for an honest review.

I can hardly wait to order my personal copy of this very nice art book. I will actually need three copies to begin with so I can share them with family members while I put together a class I would like to teach using some of the darling examples in the book for cards and envelopes.
I am not a CZT but I have over twenty years of experience in teaching young adults and adults arts and crafts. This is a lovely book along with a couple of micron pens for anyone who would like to experiment with this concept.

Zentangle drawing has increasingly become a mode of meditative relaxation over the past decade. This book helps teach different techniques, and while that in itself is excellent, the far more important thing for me was that the author, on more than one occasion, points out that no zentangle is wrong. The most freeing thing, in my mind, is that zentangle provides only self inflicted boundaries. You can use techniques or not, depending on your desired outcome. No zentangle has a point of orientation, meaning that you can view it from any angle and it still identifiable as a zentangle.

This book had lots of information and tips for beginners to doodling. Some of the images were just empty boxes, but the instructions are clear, and I’m sure that the illustrations will be fixed in the final version, I would recommend this book for anyone interested in drawing more, specifically in the zen tangle style.

I jumped to the opportunity of a zentagle how to book, because I was already interested in this type of art.

However, I was hoping for a more instructional book. For example, I really tried to make a jobowtie, as soon as I saw it in the book. Never quite got it, at least until I found the instructions that could only be found in the 86% mark of the book. The same with other examples. Such an organization makes no sense.

Also, I personally don´t like books to write in them. It's supposed to be an introduction book. One must have room to test, adjust, redo.

I would must preferer that space to be occupied by step-by-step drawing on how to draw a type of tangle.

First off, I really like the font they chose for the book, it’s lovely. This was my first introduction to Zentangle and Dingbatz, I found it very interesting, and really got my creative juices flowing. The book explains how to make the designs and has plenty of examples for you to practice, with workbook pages at the back of the book. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a new creative outlet. Thank you #netgalley.

Great book if you are looking to expand your Zentangle repertoire, Dingbatz is an expansion of this popular craft.
The author is a certified zentangle teacher and has used many of the basics of Zentangle to expand the world of those hooked on this 'doodling' There are lots of examples and plenty of room to practice. Very creative.

I would like to thank the publisher, the author and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. .

I had never heard of Zentangles before, but they are fun! This book shows how to create these complicated-looking doodles in a clear way. These drawings could beautifully enhance scrapbooks, letters, and other artwork.
