I so looked forward to reading this book but it's 1 of those that is difficult to rate.

The book started off with a bang and I found myself rushing through the pages to find out who the culprit was. It must be the worst-case scenario. Someone enters your house but you can't hear then because you are deaf.

I did find some things a bit repetitive and sometimes I got a bit frustrated with the main character for not taking the threats against her seriously and in the proses putting other peoples lives at risk.
I however still enjoyed the book.

Thank you to Netgalley and Avon for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

ok, let me start by saying that this was a nice way to get more familiar with the world of interpreters, with a community that revolves around the fact that most of them cannot hear . I had fun readinf this, but i was not happy with the way the story is extremely slowly build... and then ... it king of gets resolved really fast. i felt like the author wanted to write the ending really fast... without taking in consideration that the pace of the story was king of slow until the last 50 pages.

Imagine being hearing impaired and not knowing you have an intruder in your home. The Hunter family is deaf and wake up to their home being completely trashed. This is the first novel that I've read that had a deaf family. I really enjoyed this read. It was a great horror story. The family had no idea what happened to their home and couldn't give the police a lot of information, but an investigator with a lot of experience was called in to find the intruder for this family.

‘The Silent House’ is the latest book by Nell Pattison.

If someone was in your house, you’d know … Wouldn’t you? But the Hunter family are deaf, and don’t hear a thing when a shocking crime takes place in the middle of the night. Instead, they wake up to their worst nightmare: the murder of their daughter. The police call Paige Northwood to the scene to interpret for the witnesses. They’re in shock, but Paige senses the Hunters are hiding something. One by one, people from Paige’s community start to fall under suspicion. But who would kill a little girl? Was it an intruder? Or was the murderer closer to home?

The Silent House is an intriguing story of suspense as a deaf interpreter is caught up in the middle of an investigation when a little deaf girl is tragically murdered.

Paige accidentally becomes an interpreter when she’s the only hearing person in her family, even though her heart belongs to creativity. When a little girl of a close friend is brutally murdered, she finds herself embroiled in a case not only as an interpreter but as a target.

This is the first book written by Nell and it’s an extremely interesting and strong debut. Atmospheric from the first page, it tells the story of a close community united in grief. As the story is primarily seen through the narrative of the deaf characters and their signing and it really does make for interesting reading, reading about life in the deaf community.

As Paige begins to investigate the case along with her little sister, they find themselves the target of unwanted attention. I found it fascinating reading about life in the deaf community and really found it to be an addictive story.

Cleverly plotted with an intriguing hook, ‘The Silent House’ is a fascinating story they really gripped my attention. Riddled with drama, suspense and unreliable and dislikable characters, this book is a unique and unsettling story that made for eerie and addictive reading.

You can buy ‘The Silent House’ from Amazon and is available to buy from good bookshops.

For someone who isn't all too familiar with this genre, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed The Silent House!
I thought this was very well-crafted and had a nice spin to it with the family staying in the house being deaf and thus not knowing that there was an intruder in it.
The ending and "reveal" was a bit predictable but it didn't take away much from my enjoyment because Nell Pattinson's writing was still engaging enough for me to want to hear how the story ends.
I'd love to pick up more from this author in the future!

Thank you NetGalley for this copy of The Silent House. I thought this story was very mysterious and crazy and it kept you guessing. There were some slow spots though throughout the book that made the book take me forever to read but some parts made up for it.

A chilling premise and a decent police-procedural.

The premise is this book sounded so good and I couldn't wait to read it. A child was murdered in her bed by as stranger in the house, but the parents were deaf and had no idea what was happening. Unfortunately the book did not deliver. I found it slow and it was a struggle to get through. The characters were unlikable and/or annoying and were inconsistent. I guessed the ending almost immediately and though the book took a very long time for me to read, I was glad it was over.
One excellent thing about the book was the introduction to the deaf community. I found the aspects and challenges of the deaf community interesting and informative.
Perhaps this book just wasn't for me so I recommend reading some other reviews before making your decision whether or not to read it.

This is book with a harrowing subject matter, the gruesome murder of a small child, but somehow the author manages to deal with it sympathetically and without sensationalism.. I liked the character of Paige although at times I could have shaken her for her recklessness. Deep down she just wants to help, partially due to a dreadful event when she was just a teenager. I also liked that there was a little bit of romance to lighten the subject matter. I worked out who the killer was and why the murder had been committed about halfway through the book and found it a bit frustrating that the police seemed totally oblivious but all in all this is a good story which I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

This is a very different kind of police procedural as the author explores deafness. This book keeps you guessing as the devastating murder of a little girl is investigated.

I would rate this book 3.25 out of 5 stars.

A fun thriller with great hard of hearing/deaf representation.

This story got off to a really strong start, the crime was interesting, the main character was compelling and the victim's family having hearing disabilities made the mystery that much more interesting. In the second half of the book it did start to fall into the thriller trope of the main character inserting themselves into a criminal investigation and the police acting in ways that seem unrealistic and unprofessional.

If you're looking for a thriller with interesting disability representation then this one is worth checking out.

This was a great book, so different to any others I’ve read and that made it all the more interesting to read. I loved the way this book was written and the way the story developed all throughout the book. It was twisty and slightly eerie at times which added to my reading enjoyment.
I had heard a lot of good things about this book and was glad that I also enjoyed it. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

I really wanted to enjoy the book the blurb pulled me in and I was interested as it was a first novel to see what publisher look for as I'm hoping to send my own work to different publishers. Alas after a decent start, the plot began to drag, so unfortunately I put it down soooo many times it's taken a while to finish. I do wish I'd read something else which is a shame as the story had a good premise however I guessed most twists, the characters were under developed.. I've given 3 stars because she's a first time novelist and I enjoyed the end too.
Thanks to net galley and the publisher for the arc for a truthful review.

One of those books that grip you from beginning to end. Some unique characters in a family who are deaf Imagine the effect of one of your family being murdered and you don't hear a thing. Terrifying.

Fantastic book that was completely different to any other in that most of the characters were deaf. It was an interesting read and a little insight into the world of deafness. I had worked out quite early on who the guilty person was but that in no way spoilt the book for me.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an honest and unbiased opinion.

This started out so promising -but I gave up after about 2 thirds . What I couldn't grasp is that there is a quite shocking murder of an 18 month old baby at the beginning (no spoilers here ) and yet the focus seemed to be on the fact that the main characters were deaf - not for me -sorry.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC in return for an honest opinion

Wow! What an amazing story. I was gripped right from the beginning. I have never read a book based around the deaf community and I think this author wrote this story so well. It gave me a little insight into a few things that I would never have known. The characters were easy to get to know and understand. I did guess who the murderer was so I'm pleased about that but with a twist that I wouldnt have guessed. A little girl is murdered in her dads house & no one heard anything as the parents are deaf, there are a few people who are suspects but is it all it seems? Definitely worth a read
