An emotional, relationship-oriented novel, "You and Me and Us" follows Alexis, her partner Tommy, and their 14-year-old daughter CeCe from Atlanta to Destin, Florida, where they must come to terms with Tommy's terminal cancer and the future the clashing mother and daughter face without his steadying influence. Using both Alexis and CeCe as narrators, author Alison Hammer digs deep into the internal struggles of a family that is both in love and in despair. Channeling emotions through words and making it all look effortless, Hammer knocks it out of the park with her debut.

Alison Hammer really delivers with this emotional read! You and Me and Us centers around Alexis, her husband Tommy, and their daughter, CeCe, as they cope with the devastating fact that Tommy has terminal cancer. I knew going into this book that my heart would be heavy, but I didn’t expect to immediately get so attached to all of the characters. I thought Alison Hammer does a great job with making you feel like a fly on the wall. The pacing was spot on and although I didn’t want the book to end, I felt I received an incredibly full novel that will stay with me! You and Me and Us is a 5 star read that I highly recommend! I will definitely be 1-clicking anything and everything Alison comes out with in the future!

Alexis has something to prove, and her measure of success is wealth and recognition. Fortunately for her, she has a partner who is willing to spend time raising her daughter CeCe while Alexis chases the unreachable. When her partner Tommy becomes terminally ill, the dynamic of everyone's world shifts. Alexis has to closely examine everything about her life and come to some conclusions that work for everyone. This familiar, touching, and sad novel reminds us that the most important things in life aren't things.

This is a lovely, yet heartbreaking story of a mother and daughter coping with a terminally ill husband and father who, up to now, has been the person holding his family together. It certainly puts our modern work-centered world into perspective, realizing how important it is to cherish every day and let our loved ones know how much we do love and appreciate them. Very poignant and have lots of tissues handy.

Such a tender book. The author tackles love, loss, grief, and family relationships with depth. This novel teaches us not to take life for granted. It’s puts life into perspective and makes you realize what really is important. Don’t let a day go by without letting people know how you feel about them.

This book was so moving that I was in tears almost throughout the entire book. You and Me and Us puts life into perspective and teaches us not to take things for granted because you never know what you might loose one day. That was the case of Alexis, Tommy, and Cece. The book was so heartwarming that all should read this book at some point in their life to remind them of the important things.

We will consider adding this title to our Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
