Good read, interesting story. Nice to catch up with these characters who have their own complex back story.
The story is a fairly common theme but has some unusual twists along the way.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Break the Silence, the seventh novel to feature Black Rock Falls Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane.

When student Chrissie Lowe is found dead in the shower Genna and the team are unsure if it is suicide or murder. As they investigate they discover that Chrissie had been sexually assaulted after a date with the star quarterback. As more deaths occur, possibly accidental, they don’t know what to think.

I thoroughly enjoyed Break the Silence which is a gripping thriller albeit with a distressing theme. The novel is told from various points of view but rather than being distracting they give the reader additional information that Jenna doesn’t have and add a certain frisson to the read in a “I know something you don’t” way. I do think, however, that it makes the novel slightly flabby in the middle as the team struggle to make sense of the little information they have and seem to endlessly discuss various options without any firm conclusions. The beginning, which grips the reader and strongly invites them to read on, and ending, which has a heart stopping action scene and a great twist, more than make up for this.

Every time I read this series I always wonder at the serendipity of three former, highly skilled government agents, (Alton, Kane and Medical Examiner Wolfe) turning up in one small town and said small town becoming serial killer central. I live in hope of an explanation (I love a good conspiracy theory) at some point but sadly it’s not in this novel. In the meantime I just accept their skills in the fight for justice.

Break the Silence is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

When Chrissie Lowe, a college student is gang raped and found dead later of an apparent suicide both Anton and Kane vow to see justice served. Immediately their focus is on Seth Lyons, the College Quarterback, who was Chrissie date that night, a smug self-serving narcissist with an inflated ego and believes himself untouchable. With Seth and his merry band of followers in their sights suspect pool is further whittled down when it seems an Avenging Angle who is always one step ahead is delivering his own brand of justice for Chrissie whether it be accidental or murder. Can Anton and Kane find the evidence in time before all their suspects meet their maker…….
This book is a must read for those who love a tension action packed book but are not of the faint of heart, you will not be disappointed,

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book.

Another five star read in the Kane and Alton series. I love going back to Black Rock Falls. As usual this author draws you in. As for this read OMG another page turner. The story was gripping and multi layered which had me hooked from the first page. The tension and suspense had me stuck to my seat. The storyline was original and abhorrent, and as for the underlying story all I can is WHAM!!!!! JUSTICE!!!!!!
Members of the Black Rock Falls football team are turning up dead why??? It is up to Sheriff Jenna Alton and her crack team to find out why. Abhorrent, scary, gripping and another MUST READ in this addictive and fantastic series. An easy five stars and so Highly Recommended.
I would like to thank the author, publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.

Break The Silence (Detectives Kane and Alton #7) – D. K. Hood

What a cracking book this is, my advice to you before starting this is make sure you’ve got time to read in peace. This is #7 in the American Police Procedural set in Black Rock Falls yet another stonking read by Ms Hood. Its one of those places that the serial killers are attracted to and I have to say you couldn’t pay me enough to move or even visit for a holiday.

If your chosen genre is an action packed police procedural then this is a perfect series for you. This could be read as a standalone but my personal preference is to read a series in order, you could treat yourself and begin at the beginning with Don’t Tell A Soul.

Be mentally prepared for this as the author doesn’t flinch from talking about more sensitive issues, bullying, rape as well as abhorrent crimes that are committed to anyone man, woman or child this book is no different. It’s obvious to the reader that research into chosen topics has been done and done well.

Having been on a vacation strictly as friends coming home to one of the towns busiest times of year a case certainly brings them back to reality with a bump. It’s a case of having to hit the ground running on this one and run they do (well Rowley does). This case is dependent on getting a definitive result from resident M.E. Shane Webber whether all is as straightforward as it initially seems, is it murder or suicide? It doesn’t stop there, three fit and healthy young men die under suspicious circumstance.

With a plethora of suspects due to the annual rodeo and fair in town we’ve plenty to chose from, happily I didn’t guess who the perpetrator was always a bonus isn’t it? The author drip fed us information in just the right amount to keep us turning the pages faster and faster till suddenly we are at the end.

I’m so impatient to see if Alton and Kane finally start a relationship they are turning into Ross and Rachel from Friends but please don’t let them get together only to kill one off. Although I don’t see how they could have the time with all the fruit loops that turn up there.

Read for an honest review. Thank you Ms Hood, Bookouture and Netgalley.

A College student is found dead in her dorm - it looks like suicide. Evidence at the autopsy leads Sheriff Jenna Alton and her team to believe that she was raped in the hours before her death. Her friend knew she was going to a party where some of the football team live but there is no evidence that she ever got there. Then three members of the football team die in mysterious circumstances and the medical examiner can’t rule out accidental death. The Sheriff and Deputy Kane are convinced that the star player on the team is keeping the others involved in line.

Once I started this book I couldn’t put it down - 5 stars from me! Absolutely love this series.

Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and D K Hood for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

The action that was packed into this book was so intense I couldn't put it down. The character's interactions and relationships felt genuine and created such a bond with me as a reader I felt truly invested in their well being as well as wanting them to achieve it all. Kane and Alton were wonderfully structured and Hood's writing really does an amazing job of creating tension and worrying for everyone's wellbeing.

D.K. Hood has done it again. Absolutely brilliant!!
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this Arc.
Detectives Kane, Alton and their team from the Sheriff's department are on the trail of a series of drug and rape cases happening at a college campus. They are particularly brutal where the girls are drugged before being brutally raped! A very sensitive and serious topic is treated with the utmost respect by D.K. Hood. That ending was outstanding!!

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Break The Silence’, the seventh in the Detectives Kane and Alton series written by D K Hood, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
When the body of Chrissie Lowe is found shortly after returning from a party held at the home of the college football team’s star player Seth Lyons, Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane of Black Rock Falls believe Chrissie has taken her own life after being drugged and raped. During their investigations the body of Alex Jacobs, one of those suspected of being involved, is discovered in the gym. Is his death in revenge for his treatment of Chrissie or is it just an unfortunate accident?
I’ve enjoyed all the previous books in the series and ‘Break The Silence’ is no exception, and although I found the story a bit slow in the middle it more than compensated by getting really exciting at the end. The plot is convincing, there’s lots of action, twists and turns, and enough suspects to keep me guessing. I couldn’t decide on the identity of the killer, jumping from one suspect to another, and was totally surprised when it was finally revealed. I’ve enjoyed making the acquaintance yet again of all those in the Sheriff’s department and like the way the relationship between Alton and Kane is going. This is another enjoyable thriller and one I’m happy to recommend.

Wow, wow, wow D.K. Hood nailed it again in her fabulous Detectives Kane and Alton series. I just can’t get enough this series and keep craving more and more. Even though this book is part of a series it can be read out of order or even as a stand alone.

This book is about a detective that won’t give up on finding a woman’s rapist or even worse rapists. While this detective investigates the rape all her suspects keep dying. Were they killed for revenge or were they so remorseful that they took their own life? The truth does come out in the end.

This book is not for the faint of heart. It does talk about a serious issue that goes on in colleges all the time that no one wants to talk about. With that said, I absolutely loved this book. I loved the fact that all the characters meshed so well together. The police department in this town is really small and they are like family to each other which I loved. They all have each other’s back and work really well together. Also, I loved the storyline. This kind of story is not talked about enough and we need more books like this one. Oh boy did I love the end as well. Justice was definitely served on a platter. I couldn’t have asked for a better end to a wonderful story. Kudos to DK Hood.

Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I absolutely love this author and series. Every one I have read is hard to put down and full of excitement and tension. The main characters in the series are warming and believable. My attention was held from the first page as with all her books. I did have an idea as to the killer about 3/4 of the way through, but it did not spoil the book. I am always waiting for the next book in the series. Excellent read and highly recommended.

Break the Silence by D.K. Hood.
Her head throbbed as she stumbles up the stairs. Music vibrating and the sound of partygoers fill her head as she walks into one of the dark, empty rooms. As she sits on the bed, she hears the unmistakable sound of the door locking behind her. She is not alone.
Another fantastic read from this author. Love this series. Jenna and David are still my favourite characters. I had no ideas who it was until until dk wanted me to. Brilliant. Do hope there is more to come. 5*.Highly recommended.

"What is it with Black Rock Falls? It's as if someone is advertising it as a serial killer's playground" This quote from Break the Silence really did make me laugh. Not that serial killers are funny but this small town has more than its fair share of murder. Thank goodness for David Kane and Jenna Alton. This is book 7 is a fantastic series that I cannot get enough of. Kane and Alton as a great crime fighting duo, although they are as stubborn as each other at times. This book is no different with them getting themselves into trouble left, right and centre - and we love it. bring on book 8!

Kane and Alton have just returned to Black rock Falls after a well earned holiday together - just as friends. And what do you know., they are welcomed back with a dead body. When called to the scene they find college student Chrissie Lowe dead in her shower. Was it suicide as it first appears or did somebody kill her? As they investigate more it appears that the girl had been raped at a party held by the college football team. These boys are tight knot and have each others back so nobody is talking. But then one of them is killed in what looks to be an accident - but was it? Soon after a third victim is found. Is there a serial killer in town or are these really accidents? I really loved the ending of this one - it was perfect.

If you have not visited Black Rock Falls yet then I suggest you start with book one and go from there. There is a lot of back story with all the main characters that you need to know to fully enjoy these books.

Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased.

Fast becoming a favourite series, book 7 in the Kane and Alton series is every bit as fresh as book 1.The detectives are investigating a rape, or is it suicide? The investigation speeds up as the body count rises and the main suspect refuses to talk. Very well written, with excellent descriptions and character development. This is a must read series. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

How is this Book #7 in the Kane and Alton series? What a twisted mind D.K. Hood has! I loved this book, possibly even more than the previous ones. A female college student's body is found after she attends a party. Sheriff Alton and Deputy Kane are sent to investigate. Did someone kill her or was it suicide? Then, others who were at the party are found dead. A word of advice. Don't read this book before bed or you may not sleep. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book. Can't wait for Book #8.

I just love the Kane & Alton series and this book is just brilliant. The series just keeps getting better. I love the relationship between Jenna & Kane, keeping us thinking will they won’t they get together. The storyline was as usual tense on the edge of your seat stuff and a cracking ending. Justice will put in the end. Bring on the next book, I can’t wait.

Wow. This book is amazing with such character generation that goes well beyond just the normal.

The author has some of my favourite characters and the stories surrounding them is crazy. You wouldn't believe what happens in this small town.

Break The Silence. D.K Hood

Every parent’s worst nightmare.

A young girl in her first year at University is tricked into going to a party where she is drugged, filmed being gang-rape, and then tossed aside with the threat that the video would be made public if she spoke to the ordeal to anybody. The next day she is found dead.

The boys responsible for the rape start to suffer fatal accidents, but just how accidental are their deaths.

Returning from a few days leave Kane and Alton walk right into the start of the investigation.

From the beginning they are convinced that the girl’s death is not the suicide it is being made to look.

When they make the link between the dead girl and the first of the dead man they start to wonder if somebody is revenging the rape, or if there is another reason this bunch of men.

The story follows the investigation into both crimes as the weave a path through an American College, and the countryside around it.

Detectives Kane and Alton Book 7

This is my favourite series featuring American Police Officers.

Detective Jenna Alton and Detective Dave Kane both have secret pasts, Alton was a DEA agent who was given a new identity after she gave evidence against the head of a gang.

Dave Kane is also living a new life after his wife was killed in a car bomb. In his former life he was a sniper and a profiler.

They both ended up in the backwater town of Black Rock Falls, and since they’ve been there the town has grown, and much of its swelling population are the result of tourism brought on by a series of high profile crimes.

This crime is based on one of the seedier sides of life on American College campuses. Groups of powerful men acting as if they are beyond the law, and praying on naive young girls.

A brilliant read.
