Brice wakes up the morning after celebrating the nuptials of his best friend to find a fully clothed woman in his bed. Finding a woman in his bed is a normal occurrence, but they are not normally clothed and telling him that they are now married...

Sarah is tricked into marrying Brice by her cousin and her cousin's husband. The two decide that there is nothing to be done about the marriage, so decide to make the best of the situation. Each of them going their own way and not interfering with the other's life. But Sarah's friend gives her a copy of The Kama Sutra and she has second thoughts about making the marriage one in truth.

Brice starts to see the confidence his wife is starting to gain and is intrigued by her transformation. Can what started as a marriage of convenience turn to one of love?

I really enjoyed Sarah and Brice's story. I loved watching Sarah come into her own as she gained her confidence. I also really enjoyed the fact that Sarah wanted to help those in need. So many that would have found themselves elevated to a higher class in society would have forgotten where they came from. This was a great conclusion to this trilogy and it was awesome to see the other H/H from the other books.

Unfortunately, I really disliked this book. I think you should give this book a try if you don't mind books being on lower steam end. Like way low. One kiss, I think and one love scene, both very close to the end. Quite a few people have liked it, though, and you never know what you'll like you until you read it. This is just my own personal opinion.

This was my first novel by this author. I would try her again, it's not that the writing was bad or anything, more of just a real character disconnect. I didn't really like either character. They didn't inspire strong feelings in me. I started this book like 10 days ago and had to force myself to finish it.

The book starts with shy, American, orphan Sarah in bed with Brice, who is a Baron. I personally thought the first chapter was beyond absurd with the way the two characters were forced into marriage. But I was willing to let all of that go. Sarah is extremely shy, being raised in a convent and in a new country, her social skills are painfully lacking. Brice has recently lost two of his friends to marriage and dagnabbit it's not going to happen to him. He abhors marriage above all else apparently relishing in his life filled with brothels and gaming hells. Neither of these characters appealed to me. There was no depth. They were annoying. They had no substance. I could have used them for bookmarks and never picked it up again.

I just kept waiting for it to get better. And in some ways it does, but not nearly enough to save it for me. Caroline, who I'm assuming is a character from a previous story, befriends Sarah and wants to help her seduce her husband. She gives her the kama sutra book and tells her to study it. Which she does and then writes entries into her diary. Honestly that's probably the only part of the book I liked, was her writing in her diary but there's only a few short entries.

The huge thing that got me was the lack of interaction between the hero and heroine. I felt like they hardly spent any time together. I felt like I was reading the same cycle repeated over and over and over until the end of the book. Sarah blushes, Brice says how much he doesn't want a wife, Sarah chews on her lip and Brice being a huge rake, stares and says, Wait, DO I want a wife? Then they part. They meet again, Sarah blushes, they part. They meet again, Sarah blushes and chews on her lip, Brice tries to talk to her and Sarah, being overly clumsy, spills 16 things, individually blushing after every item. They part. I just kept waiting and waiting for it pick up and for them to connect. I wanted her to actually implement some of the things she was curious about in the kama sutra book. But that never happens either.

A completely unnecessary villain is introduced and time away from their nonexistent relationship is spent on that as well.

I couldn't stand how Sarah is treated poorly by the house staff. She's now the wife of a Baron and she doesn't even bother to address the disrespect. I just kept waiting for her to come in to her own and be her own person but I felt like it never really happened. Brice talks to the staff later in the book and they 'seem to have accepted her' which was basically the only closure you'll get the situation.

Sorry to complain so much. Just not for me. And in case you think I'm exaggerating, she blushes 28 times only from what I counted and, not going to lie, I lost much attention after 52% of the book so who knows how many more there were. She also chews on her lips no less than 12 times. Once I noticed, which was unfortunately chapter 1, I could not unsee it.

This was such an entertaining read and it moved along at a good pace. Sarah’s life in the convent hadn’t prepared her for life in the ‘ton’, it didn’t help that she was an American and had little idea about protocol. Sarah was a kindhearted person and did all she could to help those in need. Lord Barclay ( Brice) didn’t intend that this forced marriage would affect his lifestyle. However, he did provide material things for her. Brice also helped those in need. Caroline proved to be a good friend to Sarah. There are some dangerous times for them and their relationship to sort out. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A Rake's Rebellion is a forced marriage regency, between Lord Barclay and Sarah Vincent, who are trapped into marriage after a set up by Sarah's guardians. That said, the book got off to the wrong start with me, with Barclay (or Brice) was the typical historical hero who got drunk because his friends were getting married, and he was against...marriage? Ugh! That said, the rest of the book was diverting, but not especially memorable. It gets a lukewarm recommendation from me.

ARC provided by NetGalley; opinions are my own.

A Rake's Rebellion by Cynthia Breeding is a fun historical romance between an epic bad boy and an innocent young lady brought up in a convent. The two are tricked into a marriage and have their work cut out for them. He is a titled Lord who spends his time and money gambling and on women. She is an orphan without a proper title. Together they make a great pair and the chemistry sizzles.

Well written and entertaining, I like the plot and sub=plots. A Rake's Rebellion is Book 3 of Cynthia Breedings Rake Trilogy. I read it as a stand alone and enjoyed it very much, but would also like to know more about other characters featured in the trilogy.

Thank you to NetGalley, Cynthia Breeding, and Entangled Publishing for this digital advanced reader copy of A Rake's Rebellion for me to read and enjoy. As always, my opinions are my own.

It's an interesting and well written historical romance novel and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The beginning is the most interesting part and it just draws the readers in and keeps them intrigued. I also loved the characters and I think that the ending was no less amazing. The pacing of the story is perfect and it has all the right ingredients; romance, humor, characters that grow with the story, and strong writing. I'd definitely recommend it to historical fiction fans.
Sarah is an American raised in a convent. She isn't ready for a life in London but circumstances have forced her to do so. Unfortunately, she now finds herself married to a man who doesn't desire her and doesn't like the idea of marriage at all. She herself isn't sure about what she wants but one thing is clear, she has no choice in the matter so she must make her marriage work. It may not be as bad as she fears after all.
Brice has never imagined himself to be married. Yet, he finds himself married to a woman he knows nothing about. There is no way he will cause the said woman any harm so he decides to stay married but on his terms. What he didn't expect were the complications that arise from their arrangement. Now, he is feeling things he wasn't supposed to feel. Does their marriage stand a chance or are they doomed to get hurt anyway?

A Rake's Rebellion by Cynthia Breeding is book Three in the Rake Trilogy. This is the story of Brice Barclay and Sarah Vincent. I have read the other books and I do feel that helped me to enjoy this one but you could make this a standalone book for sure. Brice and Sarah end up being tricked into marriage. Brice never wanted to marry and did all the things a Rake does that doesn't plan on marrying. Sarah is a orphan who was raised by nuns so she is shy and innocent, so very different from Brice. They both are of course upset but the do agree they have to keep up appearances. So they seem to settle on a marriage in name only. But Sarah starts to come into her own and when she starts to study the Karma Sutra book becomes more adventures. Brice and others start to notice the change in her and he starts to claim her as his own.
Loved their story.

"I would rather you not touch me, your lordship." Not touch her? Hell. What have I done? How foxed had he gotten last night?
"Why are you in my bed, Miss Vincent?" A blush stole over her cheeks and she lowered her gaze."We were married last night." "Very funny, Miss Vincent. Clever, even." Thinking she was playing a job on him that she and their friend Caroline had dreamed up. Of all people Miss Vincent was an orphan, newly arrived from America.
Thus the journey began. They were indeed married, Brice, Lord Barclay and Sarah. With no way out he promptly determined they would have a marriage in name only and see how they go on.
One shy young lady who wants to have a real marraige and a lot of ups and downs and a transformation bring this story along quickly having me turning the pages delightedly! Loved it!

I really liked this story about Lord Barclay and Miss Sarah Vincent.

Sarah is an orphan who grew up in a convent in New Orleans in America and Lord Barclay is a rake who spends his time in gaming hells and brothels. So two very different people with very different upbringings and views on life.
These two people are tricked into marriage by her cousin and his wife and are now forced to live together in a marriage that non of them want. Lord Barclay never wanted to get married after seeing his own parents being miserable in their forced marriage, but he is a good man and would never leave Lady Sarah with nothing and humiliated. So they keep being married but make the arrangement to never consummate it and live their life in freedom to do whatever they want. But the further they get into the marriage and their everyday life the harder it gets to keep their feelings neutral and the drama and gossip of the “ton” doesn’t make it any easier on them.
Will this marriage ever work with such two different people and can the “Karma Sutra” help Sarah in the pursuit of seducing her husband?

I really loved Lord Barclay and Lady Sarah. Lord Barclay is such a sweet man who will do anything to help the people in need and try to make their conditions better. He will also do anything for Lady Sarah even though he doesn’t understand why. He is broody, protective, strong, strong willed and very loving.
Lady Sarah has many of the same trades but she is also very clumsy and funny and does exactly what she wants without thinking of the consequences of her actions. She hates the cordial side of the English “ton” and she is very humble in all of her actions.

I can definitely recommend this book if you like an opposites attract lovestory with a great villain a good plot and a lot of very sweet and caring characters.

I got this book from Entangled Publishing and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Sarah is a convent education orphan who finds herself married to rake Lord Barclay. Sarah is a virtuous and naive young American who was forced to depend on the charity of her relatives who want to fix themselves of her by marrying her off. They succeed in doing this by tricking Lord Barclay. What follows is a love story that develops slowly. It was a great book with a strong plot. I cannot wait to read other books by this author. This is an ARC from Net Galley.

After a night of heavy drinking, Lord Brice Barclay wakes up to find a woman in his bed. That's not unusual, but this one is fully clothed. When she tells him they are married, he is instantly cold sober and looking for a way out. Miss Sarah Vincent, an orphan raised in an American convent, didn’t ask for this marriage. They agree to have a marriage in name only, until they decide it’s not what they want but how to persuade each other when every time they meet they put their feet in their mouths!
This is the third book in the series & it could be read on its own. However it does follow on immediately from the previous book. I think this is my favourite of the series. I loved Brice who was like a dog with a toy, he wasn’t interested in it until someone else was, then it was his & his alone. I also loved Sarah who went form being the ugly duckling almost scared to speak to the swan who captivated everyone. The road to their HEA was littered with misunderstandings & misconceptions but it was highly entertaining. It was also lovely to see Stephan & Caroline settling into wedded bliss. I would have liked to have known what happened to the villain & some of the residents of St Martins, it would have tied up some minor loose ends.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

What an enjoyable read! This was my first Cynthia Breeding book but I'll definitely be reading more.
This story consisted of
a rake that doesn't want to marry
a forced marriage (by trickery)
an American, orphan bride who grew up in a convent
marriage of convenience agreement
an inquisitive bride
the Kama Sutra book (oh yes!)
a secret scandalous diary
a prostitute
a dastardly fellow
Has it grabbed your interest?
I loved that Sarah was an outspoken woman, even with her convent upbringing. She knew herself and what she wanted and if she didn't, she learned. She wanted a real marriage with Brice, Lord Barclay. Even if it meant asking questions a proper lady wouldn't ask. She wasn't a lady though. She was an American!
Brice was a wonderful character as well. Thinking he could continue his life the way it was prior to the marriage he was tricked into. He learned that it's ok for your life to change. It's ok to love and be a married man.
Looking forward to reading the previous books in this series.

Another rogue falls. Brice is mourning the fact that his two best friends have gotten married when he also ends in the same position. This is something he never wanted. Sarah is out of her depth in London society. She is an orphan who grew up in a convent. The people who were supposed to protect her has tricked her into marriage. These two forge ahead trying to make peace with their situation and try to make a way forward. The author tells a tale of discovery and redemption. Love blossoms and flowers as they realize that they are better together than apart.

This is my own review, in my own words for this ARC. Story had good bones but just didn't quite have the power to make it riveting.

Lord Barclay, Brice, wakes up with a woman in his bed. Imagine his shock, when he learns he is married to said woman. To make matter worse, it's legally binding. Not only is there a signed marriage license, but several members of the ton witnessed it. Thus, Brice finds himself leaving with a wife in tow.

Miss Sarah Vincent, is innocent. She was tricked just as Brice was. Sarah is relieved, yet terrified when Brice accepts their marriage. Only problem is, Sarah wouldn't mind trying to make a go of their forced marriage, but Brice wants to live their lives separately for the most part. How can she convince Brice to give her a chance?

Author Cynthia Breeding's RAKE TRILOGY series is superb. It consists of A RAKE'S REDEMPTION, A RAKE'S REVENGE and A RAKE'S REBELLION. You cannot go wrong with any of these titles. Each one is intensely satisfying. The conclusion, A RAKE'S REBELLION is certainly an accomplishment for Ms. Breeding. It is a page turner for the very beginning. Brice and Sarah are my new favorite couple. Brice is so certain his marriage will be like his parents, he doesn't even give Sarah a chance. It takes him a long time to come to the realization that he's developed feelings for Sarah and that she might be the best thing that has ever happened to him. On a side note, I am so glad the book Caroline loaned Sarah came into play. All three novels in the RAKE TRILOGY by Ms. Breeding are winners to me and all are going on my keeper shelf!

Brice and Sarah make a very interesting couple and their chemistry is pretty different from others in this genre. The way they end up married without either's knowledge is bizarre but ends up being cute as well. Brice undergoes a change from a rake to respectable husband without Sarah's insistence and that makes his character honorable and more likable. Also he respects her wishes and gives her complete freedom which is pretty different for men of that period. She as someone who speaks her mind brings a refreshing quality. Overall, quick fun read with just enough steam!

Good Story, I was a bit doubtful of the hero's name Brice but the characterisation is interesting and we see him change from someone who was a hedonist to be more responsible sexually! Sarah is quiet and cute. She is her own person and doesn't really understand the reverence or use for the aristocracy. Sarah is keen to do good works. I also liked her American friend Ramsay perhaps he'll return in later books. This book is part of a series but I enjoyed it even though I haven't read the others. The author is new to me and I will look out for more of her books.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I'm not a huge fan of historical romances. But I found this one fast moving and enchanting. Breeding creates characters that remind you of how it feels to fall in love and the heat we all love. Breeding's writing is very easy to read and enjoyable as well.
