Brice, Lord Barclay wakes to find himself in bed with a woman he doesn’t remember marrying. However, he agrees to marry Miss Sarah Vincent so as to protect her, but with all intent that their marriage will not change how he leads his life. Sarah is determined to not lead a marriage in name only, and sets about learning all she can, from the book of Karma Sutra. It doesn’t take long for Brice to realise that Sarah is not who he thought her to be, and soon finds himself mesmerised, much like those around him.
The romance is definitely slow paced but the attraction between the couple begins from the start of their marriage. Whilst Sarah gradually matures from the shy young American who grew up in a convent, her strength of character also develops. In some ways, I found each of their personalities more interesting when they were apart, then when they were together. Brice’s attraction also grows as he sees the development in Sarah which made for interesting reading. Great secondary characters added to a sweet story.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This book starts with Lord Barclay waking up after a night of drinking in bed with a fully dressed woman in his bed. When she tells him that they are married, his wheels start turning looking for a way out.
Sarah Vincent, is an orphan who was raised in an American convent. She didn't ask for this marriage but she's willing to try if only her groom wasn't set on keeping their marriage in name only.

This book is a bit of a slow burn. Their first kiss doesn't happen till some point near the end. But the story definitely kept me interested.
Sarah has to figure out how to fit into the social scene even though she has no interest. With the help of Lady Caroline, a new wardrobe is ordered and when her husband sees her and notices she has a figure that she once hid under her drab dresses. When he observes other men taking notice of his wife, he does not like it and tries to stamp down the feelings it brings up.
They both want to make this a real marriage but both have a hard time expressing this. He doesn't want her to think he's going back on their original agreement and Sarah's inexperience leaves her unsure of how to seduce her husband.
This was my first time reading a book by this author and I really enjoyed her writing. I'm looking forward to reading the first two books in this series. This ARC was provided by Entangled Publishing for an honest review.

When a prim and proper Miss finds herself married to a renowned rake who wants to have nothing to do with her, do they have a future together ...

Even if it is the third in a series, this book can be read without problem as a standalone as being my first read by Mrs Cynthia Breeding, at no point I felt lost.
And what a read it was, I just loved this book and the main couple, they have their flaws and at time it might have upset me, but it made them even more real.
Sarah is a young miss right out of a couvent, so she is in no way at her place among the ton, and as an American, she is like a fish out of its pond.
But she is willing to try, she makes mistakes and concatenates mishaps.
Plus, she wants to find a purpose, her upbringing did not prepare her to the idle way of life of peers.
Every new step she does, she gambles to be shunned or praised for her actions.
Her new life is not an easy one when she had learn to fend for herself and wait for nobody’s help. Now she must navigate in very choppy waters between servants and nobility when everyone will revel in her misfortune.
Brice thought even now married, he could continue his life as previously.
And he intended too until his new wife shows she was more than the drab mouse he caught a glimpse of. So when other men begin to look at his not so dreary wife, he drops the binders.
But they made a deal.
Even if I was sometimes angry, their troubles at communicate looked so right, like when you want to say something but lost the thread of the discussion or you formulate wrongly what you wanted to say. All the errors we do under the fire of our senses.
It was lovely story of a young woman whom open herself slowly to a new world of sensation and a man who realizes his happiness is up to him if he fan find the strength to engage his heart too.
It was a slow building story, giving the characters time to settle and seek what they truly are looking for.
5 stars for a consuming tale of finding its voice and going for it.

I was granted an advance copy by the author through Netgalley and I purchased own.
Here is my true and unbiased opinion.

Another great book by Cynthia Breeding.
Sarah and Brice find themselves married by unscrupulous means, and are forced not to proceed with annulment in order to protect Sarah's reputation. But, staying married doesn't mean things should change in the life of Brice, a rake around town. So they agree to a marriage in name only.
Sarah is lost and doesn't know what she is supposed to do with her time, and finds herself in a wonderful position to volunteer at a poorhouse teaching children how to read and write. She is a wonderful teacher, and loved by both the children and those unconventional members of the ton , but cannot find a way to entice her husband to make their's a real marriage. When Brice makes an enemy one night playing cards, his wife becomes they target of revenge, and saving Sarah'a life will become the only thing that matters to Brice. If he is able to save Sarah, will she be willing to stay with him and build a life together?
An easy, fun , fasted pace read.

This is a reader's perfect Ugly Duckling story. Brice and Sarah are in a marriage neither of them wanted and the rules have been made clear. Stay out of each other's way. However as Sarah turns into the beautiful Swan, Brice starts to have other notions. This is a great book I would definitely recommend.

This is the first book I've read by Ms. Breeding and it was a delightful read. Brice, Lord Barclay, gets the surprise of his life when he wakes up at a house party, only to learn that he is married to the American, Miss Sarah Vincent. Sarah grew up in a convent and neither she nor Brice wanted this marriage. They were tricked by Sarah's uncle into the marriage and due to a meddling aunt, there's no way out. Sarah is a shy, unassuming young woman and has no idea how the ton operates. With the help of her friend Caroline, Sarah slowly comes out of her shell and is determined to make her marriage work.

I loved the slow burn of the book and was glad the author had Sarah struggle with her own sexuality. Growing up in a convent, it would have been unrealistic if Sarah suddenly became a sexual being. Brice, on the other hand, rebels against the marriage, but soon learns that sometimes unwanted events could be just what he needs. Ms. Breeding does a great job of letting the reader into the character's feelings and motivations as they navigate a marriage in name only to a loving union.

Lord Barclay and Sarah's story was just delicious. Strong female lead for this time period coupled with a reformed rogue made this one just fantastic. We got deception, confused feelings, great side characters, a possible challenge for her emotions and a dash of action! Throw in some deliciously innocent slow burn romance and I was a very happy reader. Historical romance is a new genre for me and I have to say I'm a BIG fan!
