I really enjoyed this book.
It's not so much a romance as it is a mystery. I was expecting a bit more chemistry between the main characters, but the action was well done.

Melinda really reached into the essence of Bree's emotional turmoil and I cried during some parts of the book because it was touching or hard.

Overall, it was good. But less romance.

A well plotted and easy to read mystery. Sometimes you want a mystery that is both interesting and not overly graphic. This fit the bill. It was a fast paced story with characters I enjoyed and want to see more of. The mystery at the heart of the story was well written and kept me guessing. Really enjoyed this one.

I adore this author and this new series did not disappoint! Thank you to @netgalley for the opportunity to read one of my favorite authors newest books. Bree Taggert was a great character that was very well developed, as were the other players in this story. When Brees sister is killed she picks up her life and moves to her sisters town to care for her niece and nephew and to find out what happened to her sister. She partners up with a handsome hero who is a former officer and who happens to be the best friend of the only suspect in the case.. her sisters ex. But things are not always what they seem and this book takes us on a dark trail full of twists and turns to an ending i certainly did not see coming.
Suspenseful and fast paced, i highly recommend giving this one a read!!!

A great introductory book into Melinda Leigh’s new series. The narrative is effective in reminding readers of Leigh’s practiced talent in creating taut, character driven plots with that lingering edge of slow-to-build romance. Cross Her Heart is consistently paced and shrouded with mild mystery and suspense. Leigh offers a various cast of well-crafted characters that all have potential for further development within the series. In a genre that often goes for the shock and awe, Leigh respectfully and consistently manages to keep her writing tactful. 4 stars.

Thank you to #NetGalley and #MontlakeRomance for this ARC. #CrossHerHeart was read and reviewed voluntarily by Tarrah Marie (@wayward_readers). All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Cross Her Heart is the compelling first book in a new series by Melinda Leigh. Bree Taggert is the kind of heroine a reader roots for. She has trauma from her childhood that instead of holding her back, makes her stronger. When trauma strikes again, Bree returns to her hometown of Grey's Hollow and ends up investigating her sisters murder. As a homicide detective, she's not going to sit back and wait for the local law enforcement to solve the mystery. She find herself teamed up with a former sheriff officer, Matt Flynn, to seek out the killer.
As you would expect from Melinda Leigh, there is plenty of action and hold your breath suspense. I loved these characters and cannot wait for the next book in this series! Thank you to the author and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I absolutely love Melinda leigh! She is a wonderful mystery, suspense writer. I love how she can turn something simple into something that has you in the edge of your seat waiting for what comes next. For detective Bree Taggert, family is everything; receiving a call from her sister, she hurries home. Where she becomes to the murder of her sister and mom to her two children. While investigating the murder she hooks up with an ex-detective Matthew Flynn, who has a retired k9. I loved Brody, he is my favorite character out of this book. These two have to work together to solve a mystery that nobody really wants solved. With a corrupt police force, it will take everything these two have to solve the case. And for Bree, a possible job and a move in her future.

A great start to what is sure to be a great series from Author Melinda Leigh.

From as childhood tragedy that left her and her siblings parentless, Bree Taggert faced life and became a cope to help right the wrongs of the world. A mysterious phone call from her sisters compels Bree home, only to find her sister murdered. Now, she’s to be guardian to her sister’s children, in addition to discovering who killed her.

Fast paced and told from 2 roving points of view, this new series promises to be an excellent addition to all the other great Melinda Leigh works.

Thankyou to Netgalley and Montlake for a sneak peek. The opinions are mine alone.

4.5 stars.
A gripping introduction to a new series, with fabulous characters!
A romantic suspense story featuring a strong, compassionate heroine, “Cross her Heart”, by Melinda Leigh (Montlake Romance), shows how facing grief and loss can be the path to healing and making peace with one’s tragic past.
Bree Taggert and her family, including close friend Dana, are such relatable, lovable characters. Despite her resilience, Bree has doubts and flaws and Leigh’s talent shows it, for example, with the heroine’s fear of dogs.
More than the thriller plot, with merits of its own, “Cross her Heart” presents a cast of complex characters and relationships that readers can relate to.
The romance is still beginning, but it’s lovely to have a wounded hero so honorable, supportive and understanding. That the slightly Viking like hero, Matt, is attracted to Bree and still so loyal to his childhood fried only adds to his strong personality.
I can’t wait for the second installment and to know more about these characters and the family’s present and past history, because there were some exciting questions left answered in this story.

A new series that kicks off with homicide detective Bree Taggert's world being turned upside down another violent death of a family member similar to the one that shattered her world as a child.

Three children were left orphaned when their father murdered their mother in front of them and then killed himself after. The oldest left the small town of Grey's Hollow and became a homicide detective in Philadelphia. The younger sister and brother were raised Greys Hollow and never left. When Bree gets a frantic call from her sister in fear for her life she drops everything and races back to the town with horrible memories only to be to late when it turns out her sister was murdered leaving her own two children without a mother.

As this is the first book of a new series somethings are on a fast track – the murder and investigation – and some on a slow track – the romance between Bree and former K9 investigator Matt Flynn (who happens to be the best friend of Bree's sister husband who is missing and suspected as her killer).

I enjoyed all the characters/family we were introduced to over the course of the book and think the author has another winner on her hands with his series. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Bree Taggert has to return to her hometown to once again face a violent death in her family. Once Bree returns to town she finds that she can’t just sit back and let the local police handle the investigation. Bree will team up with Matt Flynn (who just happens to be the prime suspects best friend).

But will Bree be ready for all the secrets and lies she is about to uncover?

Another great story by Melinda Leigh! Cross Her Heart is the first book in her new Bree Taggert Series. I am very excited to see where this series goes. It was fun to see a few familiar names from past series also. I am already looking forward to book two See Her Die (September 1, 2020).
If you are looking for a good suspense read I would highly suggest that you pick up a copy of Cross Her Heart.

I really enjoyed this book. This author has written many books and I have really liked all of them. This book had a lot of family drama due to the early death of a character. Ending was not what I was expecting, I liked being surprised.

Cross Her Heart by Melinda Leigh

This is the first book in a new series by Melinda Leigh, where it follows Detective Bree Taggert. She lives and works in Philadelphia but comes from a town called Greys Hollow where she has a brother and sister.

The book opens with a scene from their childhood in which Bree is calling the people because her parents are in the middle of a domestic violence dispute and by the end of it her father has shot her mother and then turned the gun on himself.

Bree now no longer wants to return to her home town but she receives a voicemail from her sister asking for help since she is in trouble .

Bree returns home to find her sister murdered and her brother in law missing. She now finds herself looking after her niece and nephew whilst trying to also find the killer. She teams up with her brother-in-law’s best friend who is a retired deputy.

Once again Melinda Leigh has churned out another good book. Characters are believable and the story flows to a good conclusion. You know what you are going to get when you pick up one of her books, nothing too stretching or complex but an enjoyable read.
