Carolanne is always so funny! I loved her first book and became a part of her start up for book #2. This book is just as good and funny as the first and she is just so real and relatable.

2.5/5 stars rounded up to 3.

Labeled as a "Christian Self-Help" / "Christian Inspiration" book, She Laughs is about moments in Carolanne's life where she chose laughter in times of struggle on her journey to be closer to God.

I'm definitely in the minority of reviewers when I say that I felt the execution of this one (in comparison to her debut novel, Odd(ly) Enough) fell flat for me. Marketed as a "How To" to get started on your own path to peace and healing, it read more like a short story collection.

While there ARE plenty of funny anecdotes throughout, and you can easily see how laughter does become a valuable part of Carolanne's own healing journey instead of dwelling in shame, guilt, or fear, this didn't translate solidly enough into advice on how to take my own embarrassing or frustrating or low moments and if I just laugh, I'll be on the path to: healing, forgiving others, and accepting God into my heart too. With less biblical scripture used in She Laughs than in Odd(ly) Enough, I felt the religious inspiration was lacking. The stories were detailed moments of her life (and sometimes the lives of others), occasionally funny, but without stronger ties into what helps develop a healthy relationship with God and love and kindness towards yourself, they didn't carry any teachable weight for me.

Maybe it's because I've read so many "self development" books by scholarly authors or scientifically backed reasoning versus faith-based reasoning, that I couldn't help but compare my expectations to needing more than just a giggle and friendly, one-sided conversation from Carolanne strongly stating what worked for her and therefore will work for me too.

If she comes out with future books, I may give them a go because her writing style is easy to digest, but MY expectations of them being inspirational for ME will be low.

*The last chapter of her books seem to be only biblical affirmations and scriptural texts. As is, those chapters in both of her books feel overwhelming after such a conversational format throughout the rest of the book. I think I would appreciate the conclusions more if she took relevant scripture and then paired each one with a self-loving or self-discovering Action for her readers to do or a question we could ask ourselves to demonstrate how we would live those words in our daily lives.

Thank you NetGalley & the publisher for access to a 3-chapter e-sampler before publication.

The author makes you feel like you are having a girls chat with a friend. Her stories are so hilarious but also so much depth. She gives us hope and courage in the serious moments while we were laughing our tails off moments before. A must read!

I absolutely love She Laughs! I read CA’s first book Odd(ly) Enough and when I heard she was coming out with another book, I knew I had to get it! I was fortunate to get a little sneak peak at a couple chapter before the book came out, which had me hooked, so I was dying to get my hands on a copy the day she released it to keep reading! CA is so real, which makes this book the best. You will laugh, maybe even cry, but just know it’s all from her heart.

I loved these first three chapters, and as a result loved the rest of the book! This book made me laugh out loud, want to read sections to friends, and was exactly what I needed, when I read it. I'm super thankful for this book, and how it's already impacted my life.
