Savannah is an attorney whose ex-husband Dustin had gotten involved with Savannah’s sister and produced her niece Addy. Addy is the light of her life and she basically takes care of her most of the time because Addy’s mother is an addict.

Jett is a reporter who breaks a sex trafficking story involving a famous baseball player player and his friends including Savannah’s ex-husband Dustin. Soon after there is a plane crash involving two of the ring and a problem for one of Savannah’s clients. Savannah and Jett team up to figure out why there are so many unexplained factors in this tragedy and they begin to unravel some of the research that was done for Jett’s article.

This is a great mystery and it is a page-turner. I recommend it to all my friends who like this genre.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Savannah Daniels is a successful 40-year old lawyer running her own practice specialising in HiTech companies. Her current case involves a client that is seeking to release their version of a 'black box in the cloud' which would make investigating plane incidents and accidents much easier as the data would be secure in the 'cloud'.

At the same time, a gifted DC reporter, Jett Glover, releases a story incriminating a group of people in a Thai sex trafficking ring. One of those incriminated is Dustin Tate, Savannah's ex-husband. Due to some clever plotting, Savannah and Jett are thrown into a murder mystery where they need to help each other in solving their respective pieces of the puzzle. Putman mostly does a good job with the intricacies of the plot, however, a couple of things near the end didn't quite gel or were a little of a stretch.

I really liked the two leads: Savannah and Jett. They both developed through the story even when placed under some significant duress and their budding romance was well presented and didn't;'t distract either of them from the greater purpose. And the final scene is HOT! Just fabulous. Wish I'd written it.

Addy Jo, is Savannah's 14 year old niece, daughter to Savvy's sister, Stasi, who had struck up a relationship with Dustin, soon after his marriage to Savannah ended 15 years ago. Addy Jo is a lovely character and Savannah's protective concern for her niece is beautiful to read. Stasi, is a troubled lady, grappling to keep her head up through addictions, and really struggles to mother her daughter very well because of her own insecurities and needs.

Flight Risk is a really enjoyable read that has all the elements of a very good romantic suspense legal drama.

I received an early ebook reader edition from the publisher via NetGalley without any expectation of a positive review.

I loved Cara Putman’s writing. There was so much detail it felt as if I actually knew the characters their interests, feelings, and thoughts. I felt like slowing down while reading just to savor the writing!

I didn’t realize until a scene a few chapters in that Savannah was likely a recurring character in multiple books. There was a brief but clever introduction to a prior character.

Savannah and her husband drifted apart after 9/11. Each handled the shock from the terror attack differently. Savannah coped by ignoring everything else outside of her law school education. Her ex-husband, Dustin, quickly deployed with the Air Force filed for divorce and turned to Savannah’s narcissistic younger sister for comfort before Savannah conceded to the divorce.

I still remember watching the attack on tv at home with my young son. Just staring at the television after the first plane crashed into the tower and feeling shocked when it suddenly dropped straight down instead of toppling over as I expected.

As a result of her ex-husband’s infidelity, a little girl was born. Savannah was shattered by the realization of his betrayal but loved Addy as her niece. She takes her in charge when Addy’s mother is too stoned to be responsible.

Savannah is used to being strong and caring for everyone else. She hasn’t allowed herself time to take care of herself or for romance.

I cheered for Savannah as she began setting boundaries. It’s not easy to do especially with family.

The romance developed slowly but was sweet. There was a really funny scene during the awkward beginning stages of their romance.

I really love how brave and honorable Jett was. He researched his best to find the truth regardless of the outcome. That takes a lot of integrity. I could see why Savannah developed feelings for him. It is easy to trust a man of such moral character. There is a sense of security in their relationship.

As he researches into the sordid story of four men involved in human trafficking and the sex trade in Thailand, Jett finds a multitude of evidence. Yet four distinctive Twitter accounts suggest otherwise. A small doubt begins nagging at him.

When the men under investigation begin dying the situation becomes dangerous. The suspense kept me guessing.

The resolution gave me a wistful feeling. I recalled a similar feeling watching the ending of a sweet family-friendly manga movie Castle in the Sky. There is also hope for Savannah’s future as she works through her inner struggles. I hope to read more about her.

The ending left me with a question. This reminded me of reading an Agatha Christie novel where there also is a small unanswered question but the same glowing enjoyment of the book. The last couple paragraphs of Flight Risk were absolutely perfect. Wish I could go binge on Cara Putnam’s novels right now. I highly recommend reading this one!

I received a free advanced reader copy of this book. All opinions are completely my own.

Flight Risk by Cara C. Putman is definitely worth reading if you love inspirational suspense novels. I loved it and will definitely read more books by her in the future.
Savannah Daniels and Jett Glover find themselves thrown together when they are trying to find out about a sex-trafficking ring and who is involved in it and why those who have been implicated are dying under mysterious circumstances. They both find trusting each other difficult, but when Savannah's niece becomes a target Savannah knows that the best person to help her find answers is Jett even if he was the one who initially threw her life into chaos. Jett has to face the fact that writing this story has catapulted them all into this danger and chaos and that this may have been the worst mistake of his life.

I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

“Some sins were hard to forgive no matter how willing she was to try.” Especially when the sin was her husband having an affair, and a child, with her sister. But that was water under the bridge and a long time ago. Now her teenage niece Addy Jo is Savannah's joy.

When her ex-husband Dustin is called out in a newspaper for taking tourist trips to Thailand with a group of men looking for underage girls for sex, attorney Savannah decides to clear Dustin's name--if only for Addy Jo's sake.

Flight Risk is a twisty little thriller filled with relatable characters. It is a fun-filled ride through a family funhouse of horrors. While a Christian novel, it deals with the serious subject of sex trafficking so is probably best for adults only. 4 stars!

Thanks to Thomas Nelson, Partners In Crime Virtual Book Tours, and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Flight Risk was a very enjoyable mystery. I was pulled right in and engaged from beginning to end. The plot was well laid out and kept me guessing. There were a couple of things going on that I was unsure how they connected, but don't worry, it all makes sense in the end. I definitely didn't call either of the twists. The characters were interesting and fairly well fleshed out. Savannah and Jett would make a good investigative team in future books. I loved their chemistry and that they were both kind of unsure about themselves in regard to each other. There is a little romance here, but it didn't overwhelm the story. If you enjoy legal thrillers, I highly recommend this one.

Flight Risk
Cara Putman

Savannah Daniels is a successful lawyer who has worked hard to make a name for her practice. The one failure that has broken her is her marriage that failed, a marriage that she never wanted to leave. But 9/11, work, and betrayal brought it down. The only good thing she got out of it was Addy Jo, a niece that she loves and who needs her when life at home just gets to tough.

When Savannah's ex, Dustin Tate, becomes the feature of an exposé, she has to wonder if she ever truly knew him. But regardless she'll be there for her niece. When Dustin and one of the others named in the exposé are on an outgoing flight that crashes Savannah finds herself having to deal with Dustin face-to-face for Addy's sake. Dustin claims that he has evidence that the allegations against him are false.

Jett Glover is committed to the truth and he puts in the research behind every story he puts his name to. He stands behind the exposé he wrote. After all, he'd never want to put someone through what he went through when his father was the victim of a false newspaper report. But when those named in the exposé start dying he fears that his story may behind it.

Savannah's current case is soon entangled with the downed plane and Jett's exposé but trust isn't something she is willing to give after Dustin's betrayal. But someone seems to be targeting her too so working together to get to the truth is something she has to do.

Now I can't see anywhere that this book is part of the Hidden Justice series but it seems to go with as most of the same main characters from the other books are in this book (working with Savannah in her practice). This book can easily be read on its own as the story is contained within the covers but if you want to read it as if it is part of the series it would be book 4 chronologically. This book has a good dose of mystery and legal suspense with a medium-sized pinch of romance. If you are familiar with Cara Putman's previous works you will not be disappointed in this one. Also, it was interesting to get a glimpse into Savannah Daniels's life as she has been a background character in the first three Hidden Justice books. Overall a good read perfect for a weekend escape from the comfort of your favorite reading corner.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher via The First Editions with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Pub Date 07 Apr 2020

I am reviewing a copy of Flight Risk through Thomas Nelson Fiction and Netgalley:

Savannah Daniels has worked hard to build her law practice as well as to surround herself with good friends, and to surround herself with good friends. She also wants to be a good aunt to her troubled niece, someone that her niece can count on. Since her ex-husband’s betrayal, she has trouble trusting anyone.

Jett Glover’s father committed suicide over a false newspaper report. His reputation was ruined by that report. Now Jett is a champion of truth. Jett is writing the story of his career in journalism—an international sex-trafficking exposé that will bring down a celebrity baseball player and the men closest to him, including Savannah’s ex-husband.

After Jett's story breaks tragedy follows. After a commercial airline crashes and a client of Savannahs is implicated in the crash. Men connected to the scandal, including her ex, begin to die amid mysterious circumstances, and Savannah’s niece becomes an unwitting target.

Against their better instincts Jett and Savannah join the ranks in order to separate the facts from fiction. But Savannah is not sure she can trust the reporter who threw her life into chaos. And can Jett face the possibility that he’s made the biggest mistake of his life?

I give Flight Risk five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

As always Cara Putman gives us a great read. I loved the suspense throughout this book. The characters don’t let you down. The characters learn a lot of lessons and trouble seems to follow them. I did not want to put this book down. Savannah and Jett fairly quickly learn that they need each other to help solve the cases that they are both looking into. I was on the e die of my seat at times needing to know what was coming next. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

“The truth shall set you free,” immortal words found in the Saint James Bible. But for the purpose of Flight Risk, Gloria Steinem’s take on it might work better, “The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off.” Journalist Jett Glover is motivated daily by a gut-level desire to investigate every scintilla of evidence before his stories go to print. Why? When Jett was twelve, his father died of a broken-heart because he was the target of an untruthful news story that besmirched his reputation and life’s work. Jett tries repeatedly to interview lawyer Savannah Daniels before his latest story (the one that has Pulitzer written all over it) goes to print. Jett has uncovered “an international sex-trafficking exposé.” His story “will bring down a celebrity baseball player and the men closest to him, including Savannah’s ex-husband.”

Jett Glover is nothing if not persistent. He finally gets past the vigilant receptionist at the law office and breaks the news to Savannah, who quickly reminds him that the man he is investigating is her ex-husband. Not easily deterred, Jett continues trying to find the name of the 4th man in the sex-trafficking circle. He presses Savannah hard.

“Did you know Dustin Tate was a private pilot for wealthy bad boys who have more time and money than good taste? He may have done more than fly them.”

Her nostrils flared as she coolly studied him.

“Did he like to live the high life when you were married?”

“On what we made?” She stared at him like he was mad. “Even if he did, why would that be relevant today?”

Savannah is just about to turn forty. It’s been 15 years since she was married to Dustin Tate. He betrayed her and left her with a profound distrust of intimacy. The three things important to her are her small law practice, her friends and colleagues, and lastly, being “the loyal aunt her troubled niece can always count on.” She has no patience for what she considers to be inane questions, but she reluctantly listens a little longer.

“I’ve investigated a group of four men who make trips to Thailand and other countries in Asia about once a quarter. Your ex is one of them, the pilot for each flight. Seems to participate in their in-country activities too.”

She shrugged, an elegant motion. “I don’t see why that’s newsworthy.”

“These trips victimize young girls.”

Savannah has heard enough, and she tells Jett to leave. Besides, even if she wanted to hear more, she is shepherding a complicated, time-consuming patent case through its paces. Jett’s editor insists on publishing the exposé, even though Jett has been unable to discover the name of the fourth member of the sex-trafficking ring.

Then all hell breaks loose. A plane crashes in Washington, D.C. and two of the men named in Jett’s story are on board, former baseball player Logan Donnelly and Savannah’s ex, Dustin Tate. About half of the passengers are rescued but Donnelly dies a hero, helping a woman scramble out of a frigid river. Tate is taken to the hospital: Savannah, her sister, and her niece race to his side. Savannah talks to Tate and what he tells her throws Jett’s story into disarray.

“I didn’t do anything that reporter said.” His eyes flashed with a life that hadn’t been there a minute before. “I don’t know where he got his information but it’s wrong. Dead wrong.”

“Then fight back.” The words burst from her.

“I can’t. There’s more happening.”

“More than working for athletes too rich to be told no? Do I even want to know how much of that article is true? She stood and stepped back. “You disgust me.”

“There’s a lot you don’t know, and if I explained, lives could be in jeopardy.”

Savannah doesn’t believe Tate when he tells her that the trips were “honorable”. But his words haunt her when Tate is murdered after he’s released from the hospital. Savannah is the executor of Tate’s estate. He told her that he had “proof stashed away” that would show his innocence. After his death, Savannah joins forces with Jett to discover the truth. Jett tries to resign from his paper, now convinced his meticulously researched story was inaccurate. His editor doesn’t accept it, telling him instead to “write an editorial about truth.”

What moves Flight Risk into the category of romantic legal thriller is the developing relationship between Jett Glover and Savannah Daniels. More importantly, Savannah’s clients (from the patent case) are involved, according to the FBI., in the plane crash. The converging plots crash and implode, producing an alchemy familiar to lovers of Joel C. Rosenberg and John Grisham. Cara Putman is a practicing attorney and her expertise shines through every paragraph.

With sharp characters and a story within the story, Flight Risk is a perfect blend of excitement, adventure, romance and suspense.

Savannah Daniels has had her share of troubles in the past. Her ex-husband left her after going off to war and when he came back, he had a baby with her sister who struggles with substance abuse. Being there for her niece is one of the most important things in her life right now, along with building her law practice. Finding love is one of the last things on her mind, especially after her ex-husband is in an accident and winds up dead.

Jett Glover is a reporter who has been working all his life to get over finding his father dead of suicide by reporting the truth. When he comes across the story of his career, he can’t pass it up and spends months doing research to make sure he comes to the right conclusion. His story is an expose that features a celebrity baseball player and a group of men involved in sex-trafficking; one of the men happens to be Savannah Daniel’s ex-husband. When Jett releases his story, it leads to a chain reaction of events, an airline crashes, the men connected to the sex-trafficking start to mysteriously die, and Savannah’s new clients are implicated in the crash. Together Jett and Savannah work to figure out what is fact and what is fiction with his story and all they have been told before one or both of them wind up dead.

Cara Putman is fantastic at writing romantic suspense. Her main characters as lawyers are totally relatable and easy to cheer for. I particularly enjoyed Savannah and her relationship with her family, it was messy but so real. Even though she doesn’t want reminders of her failed marriage, she also wants nothing more than to be there for her niece who is a shining jewel to her in the chaos of her life. She realizes her sister isn’t the greatest mother, and no matter how much she has tried to help, Savannah realizes she can’t make her sister change if she doesn’t want to. The only thing she can do is be there for her niece and make sure she feels loved. Jett could have been a difficult character to relate to but Putman writes him in a way that even when it is shown that he made a mistake, he tries so hard to make it right you can’t help but cheer him on in the process. Almost every aspect of the story is well thought out and written perfectly except for a few scenes that had me scratching my head by the end of the book as to why they were necessary. I don’t want to say too much about them and give anything away. If you take those out of the equation there is nothing at all for me to complain about. I would recommend this to fans of legal thrillers with a hint of romance, fans of Putman’s previous work will thoroughly enjoy Flight Risk.

I received a complimentary copy of this title from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.

FLIGHT RISK by Putman is a well-written and intense legal thriller with a bit of romance mixed in. This is not my first book by this author as I am a great fan of her suspense books. This book did not disappoint and was one that held my interest from the first chapter until the last. Savannah Daniels owns her own law firm, has great friends, and is very protective of her niece, her sister’s child who also happens to be her ex husband’s daughter. Jett Glover is a journalist who seeks out truth and makes sure the facts all line up. Writing a story on human trafficking , he feels sure he has all the facts/truth, but something doesn’t quite add up. A plane crash with the three men on board that he had written about seems suspicious and it affects Savannah both personally and professionally. Was his article really about the true facts or did he blunder?……… I received a complimentary copy of this book. Thanks to Thomas Nelson via NetGalley and the opportunity to provide an honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and are not biased in any way.

In the terrible aftermath of tragedy and murder, Savannah had to make a choice that most women used to being in charge didn’t like making. It is a choice each of us makes, often without realizing it. “Trust God or take control.”

This fabulous legal thriller, first in a new series, includes everything I would expect to see in a John Grisham novel with one notable difference. This future best seller is offered with a healthy serving of faith in the Lord without preaching. The characters are well-defined. I love this small circle of friends who keep each other in prayer. The setting for this fast-paced novel is across the Potomac River from Washington DC. It is a complex mystery and compelling read, not the kind of book one can pick up and easily set it aside an hour or so later.

Attorney Savannah Daniels is turning 40 and has a challenging case in mediation regarding technology that would replace the black boxes on airplanes. The partners have invested most of their savings and that of their families in the patented item, and are now being sued by a competitor who claims their technology was stolen.

Savannah was divorced fifteen years ago, and is seldom in contact with her ex-husband, Dustin. He once had an affair with her sister Stasi, and they have a beautiful teen daughter. Addy is the light of Savannah’s life. Stasi had an on-the-job injury that she claims is the reason behind self-medicating with alcohol. Dustin, an airline pilot, loves his daughter but is often away. Addy spends increasing more time with Savannah.

Jett, a reporter for Washington Source, tried to meet with Savannah regarding an article he was finalizing that included her ex-husband, but she refused to comment. The story broke amidst preparing her clients for mediation. Dustin was discovered piloting friends Logan, pro baseball player, Evan, and one as yet unidentified man to Thailand to have parties with young girls in the sex trade. The next day, a plane Dustin and Logan were on crashed after leaving the nearby airport. Dustin survived, and he told Savannah that he has proof he was not in Thailand for that purpose. It was merely their cover.

Jett and Savannah have opportunities to talk again. When Dustin is found dead in his apartment by his daughter a few nights later, it is initially thought to be suicide, but anomalies may tell a different story. Jett, upset that his article may have prompted Dustin’s death, wants to work with Savannah to help find the truth. In the meantime, her clients’ product is implicated in the plane crash, even though they were required to stop testing until the lawsuit is resolved.

What a breathtaking novel! There are several plot twists, one that I thought would be the end despite I was sure whodunit. This faith-filled novel has it all, from messy and realistic family situations to events that could be ripped from today’s headlines to the possibility of romance that Savannah had given up on years ago. Savannah and her close friends are women of faith and prayer. Some scenes are intense and not gruesome. The end was overall very satisfying, and I am looking forward to seeing Savannah and her associates again! I highly recommend this to those who appreciate legal thrillers with faith, grace, hope, and possibly romance.

From a thankful heart: I received a copy of this novel from Celebrate Lit and NetGalley, and this is my honest review.

4.5 stars

This book is so different in so many ways. First, the cover and title don't match the rest of the series. Although I'm questioning if this is supposed to even be a part of that series. Second, not many books like this have a main character who is forty or thereabouts. Emilie and Hayden and the other girls weren't really Savannah's peers and she didn't have the support that characters in other books/series have. I guess Bella maybe. Also unique was that Jett was more the target than Savannah was.

The plot twists and surprises had my mind all tangled up. I never guessed at who the fourth man was, nor who the mystery character was or why he was doing what he was doing. Let's see if I can put it all together for my future memory's sake: [Logan Donnelly had a friend who was trafficked back in high school. He wanted to do something to help fight the evil. Dustin Tate was a friend from college who was also a pilot. Evan Spencer was extra help and then they had Hope Boonmee who was a Thai woman and would reassure the rescued girls. They had to keep their work a secret, using false names and creating a cover story, in order to make it all work. Jett found their smoke screen and didn't realize it was fake. Not false, but fake. The whole angle with the black box project was interesting and really had me scrambled. So FBI Agent James Martin lost his daughter to trafficking and it wrecked him. He became obsessed with her, to the point of ignoring his son, John. John starts a company and is intent on proving his worth but the lawsuit threatens to undo everything. In using the unreliable technology, John helps cause an accident that incidentally helps his father's psycho mission to kill the men James believes to be evil. It's really sad how it went down but what is saddest to me is wondering who will now take their place? Who will go save more girls? Hopefully, Hope can find new partners. (Look at me, talking like this is real. In the story world I hope that can happen). (hide spoiler)]

I thought it was cool how Savannah went to Purdue like Cara did (and lots of my family :) I loved her passionate care for her niece. How many women could selflessly care for her sister and niece after the betrayal she lived through? Savannah is very compassionate and forgiving. I liked how Jett approached Savannah. He wanted her to know and feel the truth about herself, regardless of if anything happened with them. That's how it should be. We build each other up and hope that they become better people because they've known us.

The characters were great, excellent plot, suspenseful and unpredictable... I really liked this book!

(I had a bit of an issue following when things were texts/emails/letters. There was no indication of change, but that could be because I read an advanced ebook.)

This novel captivated me from the first page...it's fast, it's witty, it's twisty and it's full of suspense...with a touch of romance thrown in for good measure. A page turner. You will love it. Five stars.

Cara Putman has written another winner with Flight Risk! Savannah Daniels is an excellent protagonist who has built a successful career as an attorney while trying to help her ungrateful sister and her niece who is also her ex-husband's daughter! Talk about a complicated relationship! Jett Glover writes a news story about three men involved in an international sex -trafficking scandal! You will wonder what is going on when these men start dying! I was surprised by the ending! You will find plenty of action in Flight Risk! I recommend Flight Risk to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense! I received a complimentary e-book from the publisher and NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.

A fast-paced legal thriller that will keep you clinging to the edge of your chair. Mixed with a touch of romance.

Mistakes, heartbreak, pain, exposed secrets. There is so much going on this in this story. Just when you think you’ve got you bearings again, another twist is thrown at us. A main theme that is woven in is – Without truth there cannot be love. The main characters were interesting – Savannah, despite dealing with betrayal and pain is still not afraid to call someone out. Jett, who is a bit crass and sometimes rude, took a bit to grow on me. These two worked well with each other and personalities were very realistic.

When I first heard about this book, I knew I had to read it. It does not disappoint. I highly recommend this legal thriller.

I loved this book. So good.
Savannah has a very interesting past and she can't get away from it. But I think she learns that sometimes that best thing to so it face it.
Jett has is own things to deal with. He saw truth one way, because that is what people wanted him to see but the ultimate truth was something very different and that was hard for him to deal with it.
Cara did a great job developing the romance between Savannah and Jett. It was very slow and didn't overshadow the rest of the story. I thought she handled that very well.

A copy of this book was given to me through the Celebrate Lit Team. All opinions are my own.

Cara Putnam’s latest release, FLIGHT RISK, has her two main characters desperately filtering fact from fiction. Savannah Daniels has done her due diligence to build her law practice, surround herself with a strong community of friends and do everything she can to help her troubled niece. Betrayal by her ex-husband has left her trusting no one. Jett Glover is a reporter dedicated to reporting the truth. The truth matters to him because his father was the victim of a false newspaper report that ruined his reputation and led him to commit suicide.

Glover uncovers a story of the darkest kind - an international sex-trafficking ring that includes a celebrity baseball player and several of his close associates, including Savannah’s ex. From this point in the story on, the reader needs to prepare for a heart stopping read that will keep you on the edge of your seat! All manner of mayhem and murder break loose and unfortunately the most innocent of all get caught right in the center of the mess. Savannah must decide whether she can join forces with the reporter who has brought nothing but trouble in her life. Meanwhile, in spite of checking, double-checking and triple-checking all his facts prior to publishing his story, Glover is beginning to wonder IF there is a possibility he could have made a mistake. Truly a great suspense book! I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Thomas Nelson Pubishers & NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
