I enjoyed this first in a series from Paullett Golden. Although self-published it has been proofread and edited. The writing is smooth.

The thing I liked best is that we see a couple meet and form a relationship. There is no insta-love. A friendship is followed by love. Love is followed by a marriage with some bumps in the road. I'm no Georgian expert, but nothing jumped out at me as totally wrong for the times except one instance when the couple is kissing and his cousin shouts "Get a room!" (p. 434) *eyeroll*

I felt the story was drawn out a little longer than was necessary, and it dragged a bit in the middle. Also I've never understood the "I'm afraid I will lose her so I'm going to push her away" trope. But on the whole this is a good example of a historical romance.

I loved Sebastian. My favorite heros are the dark, brooding men that slowly learn that there is someone that will love them. I liked how the relationship developed between the main characters. Both Sebastian and Charlotte grew as characters as they fell in love.

This was a great start to the series.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by NetGalley and the publisher. Thank you!

Based on the title, I thought I was going to be reading something magical set in the regency era. That is not what I got, but I was not disappointed by that fact. The clandestine meeting, resistant love, wit, humor, and complicated aspects to the characters drew me in immediately. In Lizbeth, we are given a well read, strong, independent woman in a time where it just wasn’t proper. In Sebastian, we get a tormented soul just trying to overcome the legacy of those before him.

I was hooked from the first chapter and though I was able to guess many of the twists early on. There were still a few that surprised me and had me ready to pick up the rest of the books in the series.

I would recommend this book to anyone that loves strong heroines, period novels, and a good slow burn of a romance.

Great, multi-faceted characters. Very interesting plot. Just steamy enough. Kept me intrigued from the first page to the last.

I liked this book. The story was interesting and not your usual take on a historical romance. The H/h were smart intellectuals that fell in love over a discussion about books. This is not a frivolous historical romance but one with a lot of depth of the characters. At times, I found that the plot was moving to slow. I look forward to reading another book by this author.

The author had me at the first scene when the heroine sneaks away from a party to go into the house library! Very well done, quite realistic to the period and a long slow burn of romance. Great characters, well drawn. Nicely done! I'm going right on to the second in the series.

Lizbeth is a bookish woman on the verge of becoming a spinster. She doe snot wish to marry unless it is a love match. Sebastian is a Earl that does not wish to marry because he feels he is a murderer. The tow meet in the most uncanny manner. It is attraction at first sight. After much time and many encounters they realize they love one another and need to give marriage a shot. Can they make it work? or will their reasons for not wanting to marry win over?

I love this book and I know I’m going to love the series.

Lizbeth is a strong and independent woman, as much as she can be in the ear she was raised. She isn’t like the rest a wallflower spinster wanting to be a companion to her father, to have independence. I fell in love with both characters. I laughed, cried and cringed but it was worth the ride, theirs is a love match if only he could share his deepest darkest secret with her.
I can’t wait to read the next book.
Thank you to Netgalley/Paullett Golden/ BookBuzz for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Charlotte “Lizbeth” Trethow has watched her friends’ marriages and she’s decided she wants nothing to do with marring and becoming some man’s property so there’s not going to be any wedded bliss for her. She’s quite intrigued and attracted to Sebastian Lancaster, Earl of Roddam when she meets him. Her thought on marriage take a different turn when she meets Sebastian he’s a handsome, witty, intellectual and thoughtful man whom she feels she could grow to care for, but Sebastian has demons of his own as his past returns to haunt them. Can love grow between these two or will their difference be the end of their relationship before they have a chance to fall in love? An excellent story and one I voluntarily wrote a review.

Not gonna lie this was insanely awesome! Lizbeth is an awesome character who knows what she wants. But she’s amendable. Sebastian knows he doesn’t deserve to be happy but meeting the enchanting Lizbeth, his world will never be the same and he cannot stay away. Their journey is filled with love, friendship, secrets, and finding ways to live with your choices. I loved this book and couldn’t put it down!

I was fortunate enough to read the first three titles in this series and it was a fun few days over our family vacation, providing even further escape from the challenges of visiting with the in-laws, trying to relax, and keeping two boys from annoying each other to death.

None of these titles are particularly quick and they are not just the "fluff" you find in other similar works. While I didn't connect with the characters or writing style right away, the further into the book I delved, the more engaged I was with the backstory, characters with all their flaws, the steamy romance, and the overall plot.

There was enough sub-plot with the supporting characters to leave me excited to read the next title without feeling like I was given a cliffhanger. Each title can most definitely be read as a standalone, but it's nice to be able to continue with familiar faces, but different stories. I look forward to picking up the additional works by this author.

Overall, I recommend if you enjoy historical romance presented with richly captivating characters, vivid picturesque settings, and attention to detail. There's a good dose of heat factor as well - lots of sizzle and lots of heart.

"It's not my fault you insist on holding our book club meeting naked. You're a crude and classless man." The rest of whatever she had planned to say muffled beneath his lips." This book was a siren to my book loving soul.

I absolutely adored the way Ms. Golden weaved so much classic literature into the story. It added so much extra charm. Sebastian and Lizabeth were wonderfully written character's. One of my favorite parts of the book -without giving too much away- was that they storyline continues on where most books abruptly stop. I wanted more and this book gave it to me. The inner battles that they each faced made them seem so real.

I would highly recommend The Earl and The Enchantress. Paullett Golden will now be on my must read list. I give this one a 5 out of 5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy. All opinions are my own.

Wow! This book was richly detailed like a fine tapestry where you see intricate, minute details in each section. I'll be honest, I didn't care for either Roddam or his cousin, Annick, at first. Roddam grew on me as I got to know him better ... what made him tick and what made him into the person he was when Lizbeth met him. Annick not so much but I'm willing to give him a chance in the next book.

The relationship between Lizbeth and Sebastian wasn't easy and it certainly wasn't a fairy tale from any of the books they read but it proceeded exactly as I expected and provided all the right emotions while I read through their highs and lows. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical romances and hot romance!

Looking forward to reading the next book in this series!

A man tortured by his past doesn't think he deserves love. A young lady grabs his attention and doesn't let go. Maybe she is the answer to help him get over his guilt and nightmares, or will he push her away. A little longer than I think it needed to be, because the hero couldn't get his act together sooner. I did enjoy the plotline.

Paulett Golden is a new-to-me author and the blurb to this story pulled me in. The chapters and the writing however, kept me intrigued and turning the pages.

Lizbeth escapes the ballroom to hide in a parlour to avoid her matchmaking aunt. There she meets and is intrigued by an unknown, rakish, yet intelligent man. A man that challenges her and is willing to debate with her.

Happy in her independence, and spinsterhood, she is not looking for a husband. She is looking for freedom. But, this unknown man has her wondering what marriage could be between equals.

Roddam is a recluse by choice. He believes his life is too dark for friendship or love. But, after a tete-a-tete with a young woman, Roddam is intrigued and wants to spend more time with her. Thus, he sets out to do so. He knows she wants nothing from him and sets out to try and make her his lover.

In each other, however, they find a kindred soul. Someone who is looking for escape and to be free of other people’s demands and judgements.

Is it possible for them to become more than just friends?

I was enveloped in this world. it swallowed me whole.

There are small twists and turns in this story that will keep your attention. For me, however, the characters were what kept my undivided attention.

I loved seeing how Liz breaks down Roddam’s walls. He does not trust easily and she simply decimates any barriers between them. I could feel Roddam fall under Liz’s spell. Enchantress indeed!

The connection/spark between these two characters when they first meet is instantaneous. You can feel the pull between them and it leaves you wanting more.

As for Roddam, he is broody and untrustworthy but is so very full of caring and love.

The passion and friendship between Roddam and Liz are beautifully crafted. They will have you smitten.

As for the aunt? My god! I LOVED HER! What a shock that woman is!

I loved this book. Fell in love with its characters and was swept away to another place, another time. I was enchanted throughout.

I am more than eager to read the remaining books in this series.

I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
