This started out sounding like it was going to be a good story. Maybe I should stick to strictly non-fiction, because I got lost in all of the characters and never quite got back to knowing what was what from that point on. I understood the basic story about the college student who was killed by her boyfriend. Then there’s the newspaper reporter who felt it might have something to do with the serial killer of several women. But the melange of characters rotate so much that I couldn’t keep up, until I'd wasted a lot of time, and then it was time to switch to another character again. I read this mostly in one day, so it's not like I dragged it out over weeks and lost the thread of the story or the characters. It just felt like too many balls juggling in the air at one time to me. I’m staying away from fiction with my crime. Just the facts, Ma’am, from now on. Advanced electronic review copy was provided by NetGalley, author Nicola Maye Goldberg, and Bloomsbury Publishing.

I am not really sure how to review this book. I really wanted to like it but found it increasingly hard to follow the farther I got into it. I don't think that the writing was bad but the plot was just jumbled, at least for me.

This is a rather unique way to tell a true story. It works overall, but may not be everyone's cup of tea. It's complex at times and nuanced at times. Recommended for mystery fans. 3.5 stars.

Thanks very much for the ARC for review!!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Nothing Can Hurt You by Maye Goldberg that I read and reviewed.
What can I say about this book except I was confused as hell reading it. I had no idea what I was reading about and what the point the book was besides some girl named Sarah was murdered by her boyfriend named Blake and he got off easy because they decided he was insane and this was how the case came across for a number of people whose lives it touched or some such thing. However, the way the book was written was not done very well and it was a nightmare to figure out. I was ready to trash it from the start but I really did not believe anyone could ramble on like that for an entire book with really no purpose then I could not believe I read the entire thing.
I am sorry but but this book because I still can’t figure out the point only gets one out of five stars.

This is a hard book to review.
I supposed the book is about a murder of a young lady by a young man on LSD and who had a mental illness.
The story is told by NUMEROUS characters that have come into contact with the victim or the killer.
There is the person who discovers the body, the step sister, the roommate of the killer, roommate of the victim, etc. The list is long and exhausting.

The good: the writing was easy to follow, the characters understandable, and there was a story.
The bad....WAY TOO MANY CHARACTERS! I had to constantly wonder what and who I was reading about.
You did not get a feel for the murdered young lady nor the murderer.

I give the book 3 stars because of the chaos of the story telling, the lack of clear focus of WHO was talking, and the story itself.

Interesting format for telling the story. The writing of the separate chapters from each character's perspective was fun. Ultimately the ending was abrupt and left me wanting a resolution as to how the individual characters may have interacted.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book to read and review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

This book was very choppy and I couldn’t seem to get into it even though the plot had a lot of potential. I just often felt confused by the abrupt ending of chapters and then the beginnings with a completely different story to tell.

A young girl is found murdered, partially covered by snow. She is found by a housewife taking a walk.
The girl was murdered by her boyfriend. He was not convicted.
This book is based on a true story. It relates how the murder affected the people that the girl had come in contact with. Like throwing a pebble in the water and seeing the concentric circles, so does this story meld together the characters involved in the girls circle.
Very well written. Take a you into the realm of obsession.
Excellent read!

Thank you so much for the ARC copy of this book, I was a little confused after finishing it though. It seemed to me like there was more that needed to be said and I had wondered if it wasn't a completed copy. I understand that the book is showing all different points of views about what happened to Sara and the other victims of the serial killer Logan, but I found there to be too many different view points and it was confusing to keep track of all of them. The timeline was also a bit all over the place. I would love if the book went more in depth with just a few view points (ie Luna and Katherine).

A haunting crime story, Nothing Can Hurt You examines the death of a girl named Sara and the ways in which her death reverberates throughout a small community. Told in several perspectives, from Sara's sister to the woman who finds her body to a junior reporter, this novel is a hard but necessary read. Examining timely issues such as misogyny and domestic violence against women, this book is a must read for fans of true crime novels.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

A college student was murdered by her boyfriend, a schizophrenic whose friend said that they had done acid together the day the girlfriend went missing.
The boys lawyer pushed for a not guilty by reason of a temporary insanity. The defense said he was having a psychotic episode and didn’t know what he was doing.

Sara Rose Morgan, was found dead after two days, in the woods. Her throat cut so deeply she was nearly decapitated.

Blake Campbell, came from a nice family. He had an expensive lawyer....( hard not to feel prejudice against him).
Sara was dead.
Blake killed her.

The court appointed psychiatrist said that Blake was ‘severely’ schizophrenic.... that he heard voices from gods and gurus. He had no prior history of violence.
Blake didn’t go to prison.

There’s something very ‘different’ about this book.( novel?, true crime?, with changed names?)....
Maybe it’s because I went in blind.... but every single sentence kept me curious.

I don’t mean to be crass... but people are murdered every day. But I don’t read about them every day.
I got the feeling that ‘everyone’ associated with Sara or Blake....
( one or the other or both), would always be unsettled.

We learn of others killed - others abused - and meet the community who were affected, traumatized, and even infatuated with Blake and Sara.

There is something about this book... so incredibly intoxicating and startling...I never wanted a break from
reading it.....,
and....
ITS CREEPY in parts.
The dialogue was so close to my face...
...if it was any closer it would’ve bit me in the ass.

It’s HAUNTING...
...sent me to google wanting to know more about the true story...
but...
funny how that won’t work when you type in fiction names.

Thank you Netgalley,
Bloomsbury, and Nicola Maye Goldberg

Based on the true story of a murder in the late 1990’s this book looks at how the murder affected members of the community. Sara Morgan was a college student murdered by her boyfriend, Blake. His acquittal after pleading temporary insanity had a polarizing effect on the entire community. From the local press, to the woman who found the body and a convicted local serial killer, this story captures all the ugliness, horror and anger that lingers after a violent crime
