Thankyou to NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press and the author, Darcy Coates, for the opportunity to read an advanced readers copy of The Folcroft Ghosts in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.

I thought this book was really well written. The creepy vibe was woven well throughout the storyline. The scenery was highly descriptive and the characters were easy to connect with. I was hooked from the start and had to read this book in one sitting.

Well worth a read.

If you are a grown adult who misses the days of reading and telling scary stories, make sure you put some Darcy Coates into your reading list ASAP. The Folcroft Ghosts throws the reader into utter creepiness within a few pages and gets their adrenaline and imagination going with every page turn. I am a big scary story connoisseur yet I did not see the ending coming at all. The air of mystery that is retained is something that most authors strive for but both try too hard to insert impractical twists to actually obtain such a feat. The length of this book is PERFECT for a quick creepy read and the characters are built on amazingly. This was my first Darcy Coates' novel but I am now sure to dive head first into her entire writing history. If you remember Are You Afraid of the Dark and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, you should make this book a priority.

Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honesty!

A nicely creepy book about two semi-orphans who are taken in by their grandparents. The book has nice twists and I enjoyed the journey to discover what was really happening. The ending felt a bit rushed but the ending made sense. I enjoyed the three short stories included in the volume as well.

5 stars from me!! I've already been looking at more books by Darcy Coastes. I enjoyed it that much.
I found it so easy to just sink into it. Kept me on the edge of my seat, and ended up reading it in 2 days, as I dodnt want to put it down. It was written so well, and the couple of extra stories at the end were a lovely hidden bonus!

Tara and her younger brother Kyle are whisked away to their grandparents’ house after an accident lands their mother in the hospital, grandparents that they have never met before. When they arrive at the sprawling and stately old farmhouse that has been the home to their family for generations, they soon find out that nothing—and no one—is what they seem.
Oh my gosh, what a fun read! This book was at turns spooky, sweet, and above all a warning tale about the ties that bind...
The descriptions were lush and heady, and I really felt like I could see the disorienting old house; every creaking door, floorboard, and bump in the night was firmly in my mind as I read this ghost story with shivery delight.

I was pretty surprised by the ending. I really enjoyed the premise for this story.

Two teenagers whose mother is in a coma following an accident are sent to live with their grandparents while she is (hopefully) recovering. They have never met these grandparents, they live in a very old house in the middle of nowhere. While their newly found grandparents are nothing but sweet to them, something still feels amiss. Is there more than meets the eye or just two confused teenagers?

Thanks to Poisoned Pen Press and Net Galley for my ARC to read and review!

I really liked how it was an innocent situation and you are unsure if something is going on or they are just scared because of their circumstances.

Quick and enjoyable read, I think this took about 2 hours.

I’ve been very lucky lately with books. I’ve read lots of amazing 5 stars stories these last couple of weeks, The Folcroft Ghosts is a prime example.

Tara and Kyle Kendall go to live with grandparents after their mother’s car accident. May and Peter Folcroft seem at first like the nicest, sweetest and warmest people in the world. May spoils them rotten. But soon after they arrive weird things start happening. Doors open on their own, curtains shift when no is there. Tara even sees Peter walking around the house at night. Is the house haunted? Tara thinks so. Especially when the phone stops working after a storm. And May starts to change too. She becomes obsessive, wants to keep an eye on the children all the time. Tara knows they are keeping secrets, secrets she intends to find out. When she does though, it will have serious consequences.

Definitely 5 stars. There was not one boring scene in this books. Exciting, creepy and chilling. I love ghost stories and Darcy Coates has a way with them. I haven’t read all of her books but I will.

Loved the characters as well. Sweet, protective Tara, so smart and brave. Kyle is shy and introverted but willing to go to the end of the world to protect and save his sister. May seems nice at first but she is manipulative and insane. She has some very twisted ideas about how a family should work. And Peter? He is hard to understand, he just does what May tells him until she wants to do something unimaginable. I think he is the one who goes through the most changes. It turns out he has a heart after all, that there is a line he is not willing to cross.

Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for my copy.

Spooky! Scary! Eerily frightening! There is absolutely nothing as wonderful as a good ghost story! Gets your heart pumping! So many twists and surprises?

Loved it! I am a huge Darcy Coates fan because I am a sucker for a good haunting/ghost/spooky story. Not enough people write them anymore. This one is a little different that her usual ones because the protagonists here are children. Naturally, being this is a spooky story, the setting is a secluded house in the middle of nowhere. I had chills and could not put this book down until I finished it. No gore.

More of a short story, Folcroft Ghosts is a reprint, first printed in 2017. I’ve read other books by Darcy Coates, and she writes great ghost stories.
Tara and Kyle are dropped off four hours away to their grandparents house whom they've never met or even heard of after their mom is in a car accident. May and Peter are thrilled to meet their grandchildren and go out of their way to make them feel welcome in their isolated house in the woods. Soon though, May makes sure Tara and Peter are isolated with no contact with internet or anyone in town, and they’re starting to see ghosts. And how exactly did May and Peter know their mom was in a car accident if they’ve been estranged since she was 17?
Not as scary as some of her other tales, but a fun read, and I recommend her other books.
