This book reminded me of my grandmother's kitchen when I was younger and she would can fruits and also make pickles. I would help he sometimes but by the time I wanted to know I to do everything she was too old. Now here in this book, it is described in detail and you are also given recipes for some things as well. I found this to be a very good book and worth the read. Easy to follow along.

This book offers a gentle introduction to the topic of canning with a balanced level of details.
There's a good covergae of recipes and preservation methods. And I especially liked the cost and adaptability analysis of different preservation methods with respect to produce.

The advice, resources and measurments are geared towards a US audience so keep this in mind if you live outside the US.

This book was awesome. Canning has always intimidated me. This book addresses the valid concerns, shows you how to do it properly, and makes the reader feel equipped and capable.
It covered all the bases:
-the basics
-the dangers and how to eliminate them
-nutrition
- equipment (what's necessary to start right away, what's more of an investment, etc)
-styles (freezer, water bath, pressure, etc)
-trouble shooting problems
-tips and tricks to make things faster, easier, or more efficient
- and tons of delicious recipes I can't wait to try

I will be referring back to this again and again and absolutely recommending it.

A very helpful guide that will help a new canner get started and provide tips and reminders for the more seasoned food preservationist. A great perk of this book is that directions on freezing are also included, including suggestions on when freezing is a better option, like when freezer jam tastes more like fresh fruit than does that which has been water bath canned.

This book is very informative and was helpful as I have canned little in the past. I want to be self sufficient on our farm so canning is one of the tasks that I will be learning more about. It was easy to follow and great for taking notes from. I will be reading a variety of canning books and look forward to learning more.

I did review this book, but says I didn’t, not sure what happened. Anyway, excellent book, remember calling my sister b/c she is excellent at canning and makes delicious food this way.

I have all the jars and canning pot, but during Covid my refrigerator broke down (new and for the 3rd time and takes 3 months to fix and still broken), so was able to do Lemon Curd and Raspberry Jam. Love the suggestions this book provided. Much healthy to make marinara sauce and have cans ready. Also, whole tomatoes can can. I was going to do it with my sister, since she is so good at it, but again Covid, can not travel to Philadelphia. Want to and the time is getting close when I finally can.

So thank you NetGalkey, Jackie Callahan Parenté for sending me a copy of this book.

This is a good book for people brand new to canning like me. It covers the different methods for canning. So, if you are already familiar with these, then this book may not be for you. The book has basic recipes to get you started.

While I didn't get a chance to actually can any of these recipes, despite my hope to, I did find this to be a useful resource for someone new to canning. The layout is simple and easy to read. I appreciate that there are no frills - just useful information and nice photographs. As someone who has been canning for some time, though not an expert by any means, I probably wouldn't purchase this book, but for someone who is just learning I certainly think it is great resource!

Loved this book I'm addicted to cooking books and have over 200 as soon as this is out in the shops I'm buying it. I've even done some of the recipes this last Christmas 2020. And they work really well easy to follow and they do not have ingredients that either cost a lot or that are hard to get. Thank you for a brilliant book

Although I'm not a complete beginner when it comes to canning, I've learned a lot from this book! This book is packed with LOTS of useful information, from how to pick up a good freezer to, types of canning and other preserving methods, to types of food and the best way to preserve them! I will for sure make a good use out of it and recommend it to other canning lovers!

Full of useful information. The recipes are interesting and ones that I plan to try. I just wish that more of the recipes gave you some idea of the yield. It is very hard to make sure you have sufficient jars ready if you don't know how much the recipe will yield.

Having said that, I enjoyed the book enough to purchase a copy for my house.

I absolutely loved this book. I will be buying a copy for my library. I can preserves but never dared to venture into other food items. This book made me want to try to can everything. I loved how the author gave the history behind canning so I could understand why my grandmother prepared for the winter this way every year. Thank you for allowing me to read this book.

Canning Essentials is the perfect reference guide for anyone looking to start preserving foods with different methods including canning, pickling and freezing. I've personally not done any canning so it was great to get this book that has recipes for lots of different types of fruits and vegetables with different methods of preserving them. Instructions were easy to understand and although I haven't made any recipes yet I'm planning to in the future.
Thanks to Netgalley.com and Fox Chapel Publishing for my complimentary eARC copy.

I would recommend this to be in our Agriculture courses, in our school library, and in the Family & Consumer Science room. The information was easy to follow and well laid out. The pictures added something that not every canning cookbook has. It will be a great edition to our classrooms.
