Another story from Ms. Yarros that touched my heart in the most wonderful way. This book, about romantic love, family love, and love beyond this this world, brought all the feels and was impossible to put down. Camden and Willow’s story had me smiling, teary-eyed, anxious, and sighing as the ups and downs of this romance took me (and them) down a pothole-filled road. However, I never once doubted that we could make it and that the end would be worth the trip.

One of the things that I love about a Rebecca Yarros book is that I always know exactly where her heart was when she wrote the words I’m reading. The emotion of dealing with Alzheimer’s, the feelings of being the black sheep of the family, the burden of blaming yourself for something that too big to handle…each and every one of these elements of the story are tackled with care and love. Each character is given the opportunity to shine and, whether they’re heroes or villains, young or old, strong or weak, the depth of their story matters and the author takes the time to give each of them their time in the limelight. I loved Cam, the hero who deosn’t realize his own strength. What he’s willing to do for his family, no matter what it may cost him, is heartwarming. His love and devotion for Willow touched my soul. He was troubled, sad, and held a great deal on his shoulders…but he had a heart of gold and a true warrior’s spirit. Willow was smart and fierce, willing to take on whatever she had to in order to move their story forward. I particularly loved how she was a great communicator. Where most stories have a communication breakdown, thanks to Willow, this story was refreshing because she tackled these issues head on.

Ms. Yarros is a go-to author for me. With each story she cements herself as one of my all-time favorite authors. Her stories are heart-felt, smart, and realistic. Her characters grab my attention and always hold on well after I’ve finished their stories. Great and Precious Things was proof, yet again, that this author can take a story full of complex feelings and difficult situations and turn them into a book I want to read over and over again!

There were things about this book that made me think of John Steinbeck's East of Eden--as well as the film adaptation starring James Dean--as well as Legends of the Fall, which had a powerhouse cast led by Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins and directed by Edward Zwick. Elements regarding family and rivalry, love and loyalty, brotherhood and betrayal were all shared by Steinbeck's classic novel, Zwick's haunting movie, and Rebecca Yarros's heartrending story, yet each stands on its own respective merits. Yarros's writing is the kind that takes hold of my heart and refuses to let go even after I'm done reading. Cam and Willow's story had aspects that resonated with me, and I loved the story line regarding their romance as much as I did that when it came to their families. If you've never read anything by Yarros before, I'm highly encouraging you to rectify that with Great and Precious Things (and then work your way through her brilliant back list). I promise, you will not regret it. An infinity of stars. ♥

Great and Precious Things by Rebecca Yarros is a beautifully written, heartfelt read and I loved it.

I enjoyed the storyline, it's well written, well paced, entertaining from start to end and I loved watching the relationships between all the characters unfold.

I loved Camden and Willow, I loved their history, I loved their passion and I loved their hearts. Watching them open themselves up to each other made me a very happy girl. They truly deserved their happily ever after.

Great and Precious Things is one of those books that once you start reading you won't want to put down.
Thank you Rebecca Yarros for writing and sharing your beautiful words with us <3

5⭐️

This is only my second Rebecca Yarros ARC.

I've read THE LAST LETTER last year and I swear I had a mini-PTSD because of it. It was beautiful and devastating all rolled into one. I ugly-cried reading that book... and if you've read THE LAST LETTER, you know what I'm talking about... and because of that, I was a wee bit scared of starting this book because I didn't want to cry as much as I had in the previous one anymore. That's why I waited until practically the last minute to read it.

This is the love story of Camden and Willow... this is a secretly-in-love-my-brother's-girl romance and vice-versa. It's not a light & easy-read... It's very emotional, raw and angsty. It's sweet and swoony and heartbreaking.

It was relatable because it basically centers on family... it touches on relationships and the complications that goes with it—with your immediate family and others... on how to deal with something beyond your control... on how to deal with grief... and on how our choices affects our lives and the people around us.

I love the book... the entire story is riveting... it's characters are all captivating and the pacing is seamless. I would've wished there was an epilogue because I'm a sucker for those, but, oh well.

To the fans of AL Jackson, JL Berg, Jewel E. Ann and Jasinda Wilder, this is the book to pick up next!

A heartbreaking, heartwarming story of love and family. What would you do for yours?

I loved Camden, I felt for him, I cried for him and I just wanted to hug him. He's sweet, protective, tries to always do the right thing no matter what, he doesn't care what people say about him. He's his own man and makes no excuses. You know what though? He bleeds just like anyone else. When you hurt him, he feels it, when you stand up and say I'm here for you, he hopes that you mean it but won't hold it against you if you don't.

I'm really not going to go into detail about the book just know that it pulled at my heartstrings in more ways than one.

I have a confession- I’m not really sure where to start with telling you about this book. I know I need more than Great and Precious Things is awesome, but trying to do that without giving a ton away is hard.

I think the best way to describe Great and Precious things is evocative. By using two interesting and dynamic people in Cam and Willow as our story tellers, Ms Yarros takes us on a pretty emotional journey.

We see family relationships challenged and reshaped, preconceived notions turned upside down, grief, guilt, unrequited love, friendship, and devotion just to name a few things touched on in this story.

I genuinely liked Cam and Willow and found myself rooting for them. I enjoyed watching them go to bat for each other and seeing how that faith paid off.

I didn’t really know what to expect going in to this read - other than I knew it would be good. What I got wasn’t just good, it was great and seeing love like this was a pretty precious thing too.

Whenever I pick up a book by the beautiful Rebecca Yarros I know one thing. I am going to get ALL the feels. So I try to do it at a time when I can afford to experience them which, with a house full of kids, is in short supply.

So I put my hand up for a review copy and waited for my rejection only to run through the house squealing when I got it. But then it taunted me. Every single time I opened my kindle, there it was And all I wanted was to crawl into my bed with a locked door and box of tissues and dive in but I adulted like a champ and waited.

Obviously it was worth the wait. No one writes like Rebecca. No one makes me care about everyone and everything like she does. Her words all have a weight to them that you can only experience while reading one of her stories.

Cam was such a beautiful character. I want to say he was broken but it feels wrong. He was too solid and dependable and perfect to be called broken. His life experiences had been brutal and harsh but he came through them with so much love and compassion he can't be described as broken.

Willow had her own strength and it so perfectly complemented Cam's, it was perfect. The connection between the two of them leapt from the page and held onto my heart for the whole book.

The background characters were perfect in that I felt them too. Their small mindedness and judgement felt all too real, like small town anywhere, where everyone remembers everything through the curtain of their opinion. But I enjoyed watching them have their eyes opened even if it was still a little less groveling than I would like.

Anyway the only thing you need to know about this book to go out and purchase it is that Rebecca Yarros wrote it. And of course it is as perfectly, devastatingly, beautiful and haunting as all her other stories. Bring tissues.

Camden Daniels stayed away from his hometown because they would never let him forget that his brother followed him off to war and didn’t return. Cam was the troublemaker, and his brother was the best of them, the golden boy. The town, and especially his father, would never forgive him for his part in his brother’s death. But a phone call has him returning despite his promise to stay away. What he finds at home will challenge everything he thought about his home.

Willow Bradley was his brother’s girlfriend and is caught in her own web of grief. But even before she was attached to Sullivan, she was also friends with Cam. She hasn’t left home and the ghost of Sullivan still follows her - the town expects that she continues to grieve their hero.

I loved Cam from the very beginning. Rushing home was not something he had predicted he would do, with the chilly reception he received the last time he visited. It frustrated me to no end that the town itself wouldn’t let him grow up and continued to view him as the troublemaking kid he had been when he left. But I loved his determination to show everyone that he was dependable and to make up for his past actions, even to his own family.

The way Cam and Willow leaned on each other just served to make me love them together even more. The history they share, the loss of Sullivan, and their present struggles find them working together more than either of them imagined.

This is such a great story from start to finish. It is not just about Cam and Willow remembering the bond that their friendship was based on, but it is also about letting go of the hurts of the past, remembering the good, and cherishing the promise of the future. There are legal issues, medical battles, secrets from the past, and new bonds formed. Once again, Rebecca Yarros has proven that she can write the heck out of an emotional story with multiple interwoven threads.

Rebecca Yarros, you are a story master teller. Your words, your stories, your characters captivate me, heart and soul. The writing was absolutely fantastic, outstanding and amazingly beautiful.

I loved this book so much. These characters will stay with me for a long time. The growth and development of the characters progressed through the entire story. The choices they made, and how those choices rounded them to be the likable characters they turned out to be, was really emotional to see.

Cam and Willow, their love for each other from such young age, never faded, and it only became stronger and stronger with time. Even when Cam didn’t think he deserved Willow, the love and connection they shared was bigger than any obstacles staying in their way. Willow was such a strong heroine, she didn’t backed down, she loved Cam fiercely without doubts, even when the entire town was against them. I loved those two.

Wow, I’m beyond grateful to have had the opportunity to read this book.

Rebecca Yarros writes with incredible depth and an elegance that is unmatched. Her stories are heartbreaking in their tenderness and soul-destroying in authenticity. Her characters are strong but flawed and always seek to make something better of themselves.

Cam and Willow are amazing characters who find themselves putting on a show for the world, each for a different reason. Cam is punishing himself for not saving his younger brother. Willow is hiding from her feelings for Cam.

I adored the setting of this novel. I felt like I was transported to this mining community and could totally picture the mountains and mines and old buildings as they were discussed in the book. I was impressed with the amount of research Yarros must've done in order to accurately depict the town meetings and mine opening. Also, the Alzheimer's and the way it affected Arthur, it was tough to read, but I'm sure it would be tougher to live through. The choices the family had to make in regards to Arthur and his illness were painful and ones I've witnessed friends have to make. The whole situation was handled delicately and with dignity.

There was such an amazing family connection in this story. Even through the animosity between Cam and his father, you can read the foundation that was formed from love. Xander and Cam, while butting heads and generally pissing each other off, also share a love and respect for each other and their decisions, while clashing, were made because of their love for their family. And then there is Sully, who never makes a formal appearance, but whom you get to know fully anyway. I love their history and the way it comes full circle in the present.

Great and Precious Things set up this town to be used in a future book and I hope that sometime Mrs. Yarros decides to re-visit Alba, CO and we can catch up with the Daniels family and the many other characters in town that I grew to love.

Thank you to the publisher for providing an early copy to read.

If this book wasn't gut wrenching, I don't know what is. Rebecca Yarros, once again, brings you to tears multiple times during this story. Camden Daniels returned from war only to leave his hometown never to return again. Six years later, he reappears in town with...the intentions to stay? The love of his life (and the one that he's vowed to stay away from) is still there and he's as drawn to her now as the day he left. But things are not as easy as picking up where he left off. Camden is returning to a town that hates him for having brought his little brother home in a casket so many years ago. His troubled past and badboy reputation precedes him. So what can he do to convince them all that he's not who they think he is? Willow has always secretly pined for Camden only to have pledged herself to the "right" Daniels brother. When Camden returns to town and brings back all the feelings she's been suppressing, we're in for one emotional ride. The chemistry is very much so alive between the two of them but can anything be when they're both fighting what feels so right to do what they think is the right thing to do? As always, Rebecca's writing is enthralling and the way she tells Camden and Willow's story is just captivating and heart wrenching.

Let’s face it. If you read Rebecca Yarros’s last book, The Last Letter, you probably fell into one of two categories. Either you loved it despite the tears you shed at the end, or you weren’t sure you’d ever pick up one of her books again. I fell firmly into the first category and couldn’t wait to read Great and Precious Things…despite my lingering tears when I think about The Last Letter. I’ve been a fan of Rebecca’s words for a long time, so there was no way I was going to miss out on this book.

You guys…there is just SO much in this book, and it’s all way too good to spoil it, but let me try to sort my thoughts and feelings about this story for you. The theme the author wants to hammer home is to always be open to altering your perceptions. Whether that is of people you think you know well, situations you think you understand well, or your own feelings about yourself. Never get so stuck in one place than you can’t see something new in someone, something, or some situation. And Rebecca Yarros does this so very well.

And I’m just going to add that the hero, Camden Daniels, is my new book boyfriend out of all of her heroes now! (OK, OK…I still love Josh and probably always will!) Cam is just so beautifully broken and misunderstood. Who wouldn’t fall for and root for an American hero who doesn’t see that he’s a really amazing man? Willow Bradley sees it. She’s always seen it. But he broke her heart years ago and now he’s back. And she seems to be one of the few people really glad about the fact that he’s finally home. There’s so much for them to overcome…including their own misconceptions.

NICUnurse’s Rating: Rebecca Yarros never fails to write beautifully. I’m a huge fan of her words, and I don’t think her work has been recognized nearly as much as it should. Her characters are always wonderfully complex, and her stories never fail to evoke a LOT of emotion, usually taking you on a crazy rollercoaster ride throughout the entirety of the story. Great and Precious Things did all of that. And it made me think, like really ponder, about how hard it is to break out of that mold that people like to put us in based on our pasts- especially our past mistakes. We were all young and stupid at one time. But who people think we are at age 40 shouldn’t be based on who we were at age 18 or even age 30. How often do we want to judge people by their pasts, yet in the same breath ask people not to judge us by our own? While a few of us are confident in who we are and what we are, most of us are still usually also our own worst critic and tend to personally define who we are based on mistakes, missteps, and bad decisions in our own past. Add in Alzheimer’s, and that was its own emotional rollercoaster ride. It’s a heartbreaking disease and having to watch a loved one suffer with it is incredibly hard on everyone that knows and loves the victim of such an insidious disease process. I could literally go on and on about the eye-opening themes of this book and how well it’s written in such a way as to entertain as much as it is written to make us think and to evoke some very complicated emotions. But I’ll stop here and just simply say that you will NOT be disappointed in this book. So run! Get it NOW!

I give Great and Precious Things by Rebecca Yarros 5 out of 5 stars, and if I could, I’d absolutely give it more!

6 Having the Freedom to Make the Right Choices Stars!!!

Yes, this is a definite 6-Star read for me. Which shouldn’t be a surprise given how stunningly beautiful, complex, and gripping this newest story by Ms. Yarros is. I was concerned that this book would tear me apart like her last release and while I did shed some tears they were different and did not break me in half!

Camden has returned to his tiny hometown of Alba, Colorado at the behest of his brother Xander and it really is the very last place he wants to be, but, he mans up and does the right thing. And let me tell you, his first day home is full of fireworks of all varieties!! Not only does he see the one man he’s dreading seeing, but he also sees the woman that can bring him to his knees, Willow.

This book is a true slow-burn of second chances and redemption that leads to very tense situations that I saw coming and some that I didn’t see at all. There’s a sense of sorrow in this book that truly did bring me to my knees because of what it touches on what’s happening in Cam and Willow’s lives. Actions of others have ramifications that were quite shocking at certain points. But the one thing that can’t be denied is the love that Cam and Willow have for each other even if they’re not supposed to feel this way about each other.

Watching a man that was broken when he came home and his struggles to find his footing in this small town where everyone knows everything was an awe-inspiring experience. Ms. Yarros brings insight and such detailed descriptions to each scene I felt like I was living in Alba, CO. There’s healing that is unexpected but so needed for many of the town’s inhabitants. There’s also a beauty in the healing of Cam’s relationships with those that threw him to the side years ago.

This book is an absolute must read for anyone that loves a sweeping romance of more than just two people but of an entire town. You’ll be drawn into the story from page one and when it’s over, you’ll have a sense of peace and calming about you that all you want to do is sit back and bask in the greatness you just read!

You will definitely not want to put this down until you read the very last word. This is an extremely well written story that will take you on an emotional roller coaster of highs and lows. You will laugh and you will cry. It is a story about love at its deepest level. Willow and Camden are tossed into set of circumstances that have kept them apart for a decade. Living back in their hometown together after all this time gives them an opportunity to right all the wrongs and face their truths. It is complicated by decades of family issues on the side of both parties and a small town mentality that watches and comments on everything they do. The relationship they both have with their fathers and siblings, add to the many ways that their lives is complicated. The author doesn’t shy away from dealing with the hard and emotional conversations, but digs in and allows the reader to go on this very personal journey with the characters. Reading this story more than once will be well worth the time.

Great and Precious things is a heart warming masterpiece by Rebecca Yarros. She does not disappoint. One thing I love about Rebecca's writing is how honest and truthful it is.

My heart ached for Cam and his family Dynamics. How it didn't matter what he did, he would always be the black sheep of his family. I connected with his character on many levels.  When reading this story, one moment I wanted to smack his father but the next I wanted to applaud Art.

Willow. God I loved her. Her unwavering love and support for Cam was what made this whole story heartwarming. She stood up for what she believed was right, even though it could cost her her family. She loved Can with everything she had to the point that she didn't care what everyone else thought or said about him, even when Can himself thought he was too much of a monster to deserve her.

If there is one book to put on your TBR for February, this is the book.

GREAT AND PRECIOUS THINGS: Is a full length, stand alone romance novel by Rebecca Yarros. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'

All lovers of small town friends to lovers romance junkies will love this one, throw in a hot tatted up military hero and a slow burn romance and you’ll be sure to inhale this one in no time like myself. A heart warming all the feels romance novel done to perfection.
Welcome to Alba, one of the most best preserved ghost towns in Colorado, a small town overrun with tourists in summer keeping the town thriving during their bleak winters.

Cam swore black and blue six years previously that he'd never come back, but one voicemail from his father had him uprooting his life and making his way back home, being labeled the bad boy that label seemed to stick even years later when he steps back on the towns soil. The towns folk don't welcome him back with open arms.

Being back on home turf it's not long before he encounters Willow.

Cam and Willow have a long standing history having grown up together as neighbours she'd always tagged along getting up to mischief with the three daniels brothers (Xander, Cam & Sullivan), but was joined at the hip to Cam more so than the other two brothers.

"Willow was so untouchable that she didn't even go on the untouchable list. She went on the unthinkable one."

Willow is Cam’s dead brother’s ex girlfriend which makes her untouchable in Cam’s eyes even though he's always harboured feelings towards her, in respect to his dead brother he vows never to go there. But what if he was mean't to have always been with her instead of his brother?

There needs to be more military novels because I've come to learn that they are my kryptonite, the feels that come with these novels are my weakness.

‘I wanted to paint this moment, to capture this exact feeling as I watched him at peace. A peace I knew would vanish the moment he opened his eyes and the world beat its way in. ‘

Great and Precious Things is our second book by Rebecca Yarros and once again, we were moved by her stellar writing in a heart wrenching, sincere and beautifully emotional story of family secrets, deep love, choices and second chances. Our hearts broke and soared in equal measure.

Camden Daniels, 28 returns home the prodigal son years after leaving his small hometown to join the army. Whilst he may have been a hero in the military, his past indiscretions see his return home met with mixed feelings from the town’s residents. Cam forgoes a lucrative career in Civil Engineering and faces the wrath of his Dad and others to return home to Alba Colorado to fulfil a request made by his father.

“You have to love your choices, Camden, no matter what they are because you have the freedom to choose.”

Coming face to face with 25-year-old Willow Bradley elicits memories for both, and Rebecca Yarros slowly, delicately and passionately uncovers their history, letting us in on their hopes, dreams and heartaches, and it’s a truly beautiful relationship built on the foundation of pain and loss.

“There is no me without you.”

We are guided through the intense relationship with Camden and his brothers, Sullivan and Alexander, and the difficult relationship between Cam and his Dad, culminating in the reasons for Cam’s departure and his reasons for not wanting to return in the last ten years.

Rebecca Yarros really does delve deep with her characters ensuring we connect and really care about them and we certainly cared about Willow and Camden, two beautiful souls who had always put others wants ahead of their own. Their love story was sad, passionate, sweet and was felt with every beat of our hearts.

“I’ll never not want you. Wanting you is all I’ve ever known. You’re in my blood, my bones, my soul.”

Great and Precious Things is a beautiful story, it’s a story that’s poignant, topical and told with so much heart. We can always feel when an author pours so much of themselves into a story, it jumps off the pages into our hearts and that certainly happened with this story. Told with a smattering of drama and family intrigue, we were present for every moment.

Our rating is such because, as we came to the end of the book we were desperately looking forward to an epilogue. After everything Willow and Cam had gone through, an epilogue was crucial for us, and as readers, we were a little disappointed the book concluded without one. Whilst it didn’t detract from the actual story, it did leave us wanting a little more at the end.

5 Stars / 2 Steam Fans

Rebecca Yarros has given us another BEAUTIFUL, raw, and emotional story in Great and Precious Things. She warned me that this story would be moving differently than The Last Letter, which rocked my world in 2019. Rebecca wasn't JOKING!!! Camden leaves the military after he receives a call from his father to come home. Arriving back to the small town that has labeled him the irresponsible, hot-headed, bad boy, throws Camden right into the fires of the gossip mill because his first encounter with Willow is tense and scary. Willow is the girl that grew up with Camden but dated his brother Sully, so the small town has feelings. Camden and Willow work through the small-town drama, family riffs, and secrets held under wraps for years. I loved every emotion that Rebecca provided with this story of love, forgiveness, revelations, and acceptance.

I had previously read Rebecca Yarros' The Last Letter and was excited when I heard about Great and Precious Things. Her stories are heart felt and have serious matters woven into. Great and Precious Things tells the story about Alzheimer's, war, death, love and fighting for one's rights.
Willow , Cam and Sullivan were friends that grew up together. Cam always wanted Willow but thought Sullivan was better for her. Sullivan was the good brother and Cam the black sheep or so he let everyone think. Willow loved Cam deeply but was with Sullivan. When Cam's dad needs help Cam returns after 10 years.
The story tells one mans fight for his father's right to a DNR, a town needing help and a love that never died. Cam always took the fall and is not liked by the town. He doesn't care but is just trying to do the right thing. He has always loved willow but tries to keep her in the friend zone. Willow decides to go after what she wants and that is Cam.
Another character in the book is Alzheimer's. To see the struggles that one goes through, some days knowing your family, others not. It is a hard breaking thing to go through and watch.
The love story between Cam and Willow is a slow burn romance that builds throughout the book. If you like Rebecca Yarros' writing and books you will love Great and Precious Things.
